Anybody see the excellent article in the New York Times yesterday? Called “Tapping The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of”, the story focuses on the two marketing pushes going on for ABC Network’s Oscar telecast. In case you were under a rock on a deserted island, the Oscar noms were announced yesterday. MIKE BENSON, the ABC creative honcho who is also PROMAX chair, was part of the coverage and told about the internally created campaign featuring ELLEN DEGERERIS. TWBA/Chiat/Day, the big agency, is doing the campaign for the Academy. The ABC on-air ideas sound great and I can’t wait to see them!. Check out the story at the NYT online site, after you register. Worth the time, for sure.
Meanwhile, today’s PAGE SIX has RACHAEL RAY’s PR guy as part of a very “Page Six” kinda of story. CHARLIE DOUGIELLO, who’s Director of Publicity for Rachael’s popular show, defends his star from a nasty, alcohol-inspired item. Good news is that everybody will read Charlie’s quotes. Bad news is that PAGE SIX has gotten sleazier and sleazier and we all need to stop reading it.
Deep Focus, the promo marketing company that was behind the HBO SOPRANO’S online work, named CHRISTIAN BORGES as senior director, publicity. Borges was previously at 5W Public Relations, where he spearheaded the Evian Water account. Rats, I don’t know if he’s going to be in their Venice office or the one in NYC. Probably both.
London based Big Fish, the branding marketing folks, named MATT BAXTER to vice president multi-platform marketing. Most recently, Baxter was a supervising producer with MTV News, where he served as the most senior staff member of the MTV News and Documentaries west coast operation.
