Down East…and you know that’s what is proper terminology, right? Down East, not up East. The gorgeous state of Maine is welcoming back a native son; only in this case it’s a native daughter. ALISA BURRIS has given up the Windy City, Chicago, and taken the Promotion Manager slot at Portland’s WGME. Yep. Had a chance to chat with her, and she’s charming. The award-winning creative has already begun at the Sinclair-owned CBS affil. Out in Chicago, she not only freelanced as a writer, producer and editor, she also Promotion Manager at the UPN station, part of the FOX duopoly as well as worked for Weigel Broadcasting and CLTV News (out in Oakbrook). In her spare time, she’s a writer who’s been working on a novel about life in the world of TV. Maine inspires writers, so she should be networking with them all in short order. Plus checking out the film festivals. What a glorious time of the year to be in Maine’s capital. Well Dunne! Alisa. See you come Thanksgiving time.
Up at WRAL comes word from CSD SHELLY LESLIE that she filled two Graphics hires. TIM SAFLEY is now part of the CBS affil’s fulltime artistic crew while BRIAN SCATES is doing a part time gig for them. Both as Broadcast Designers working on their new Chyron HyperX system. Brian is a local college student (and they have a ton of colleges up in the Triangle) studying gaming animation (is that a cool major or what! But let’s see a show of hands if that course of study is as new as it sounds). Tim is returning ‘home.’ He worked for WRAL five years ago, left the business and then got the news bug again. He moved back to Raleigh from Winston Salem, NC, just down I-40. Both report to the News/Lead Designer STEVE LOYD. Well Dunne! everybody.
Switching from TV to an entertainment-related biz concern down in the Big O Orlando is MICHAEL LEWELLEN. He’s now VP/Public Relations for Universal Orlando Resort. OK, let’s not jump the gun. It happens on Sept. 16. He was head of Corporate Communications at BET before taking the sunny slot amongst the palms. Michael will be working with KURT KOSTUR, SVP/Marketing.
Already hard at work is ADAM FREIFELD, who’s clocking in just in time for the Olympics. He’s now Director of Communications for NBC Sports, who has a background as a publicist at ABC Sports. I’m sure he’ll play ball with the press and score excellent coverage.
Think about this: “The man who doesn’t relax and hoot a few hoots voluntarily, now and then, is in great danger of hooting hoots and standing on his head for the edification of the pathologist and trained nurse, a little later on.” ~ Elbert Hubbard
