When a new opportunity pops up…or is finally revealed after a seemingly long time…the story behind that newness can be very poignant. Such is the case with the first two items today.
CIL FRAZIER is fabulous. A charming and creative lady who has worked in some of the most exciting TV markets and done a great job along the way. Four years ago, she left COX’s ABC affil powerhouse WSOC in Charlotte to take a job in Augusta, GA. Yep, you golfers know that’s the home of the legendary Masters course. Cil was thrilled to be with Media General’s ABC affil WJBF in Augusta, and she and her hubby of 35 years, Randy, who has authored books, were humming along. Sadly, Randy contracted cancer last fall and passed away this April. The good news is that Cil is on her way to a new challenge and a new market…one she calls the best kept secret in the Southeast. Cil is the new creative leader at Media General’s NBC affil WVTM in Birmingham. B’ham, as some call it, is home to SOUTHERN LIVING, a fab mag. Going along for the new adventure and the next chapter of her life is 13 year old Molly, her Springer Spaniel. We send our best to you Cil and look forward to keeping in closer touch.
Another change that’s happening is due to family needs as well. Heading to her hometown of Charlotte, NC is LORI GRIMALDI, who has been Director of Marketing for Waterman Broadcasting’s NBC and ABC stations in Ft. Myers, FL. The calls, for those into calls, are WBBH and WXVN respectively. Her hubby got a rockin’ job and her family is all there, including aging parents and a brother who’s in need of extra attention… so Lori is heading north. Yes, she’ll miss the palms and the Gulf Coast breezes after 10 years, but she’ll keep on helping the Waterman folks out until the end of the year. Her last day in her office is Friday…tomorrow. She’ll be on the lookout for a marketing opp in C-town, just in case anybody knows of one. Well Dunne! Lori.
Jumping onboard the Discovery Channel and The Science Channel are two with creative bents: JILL GOLDFARB who’s now VP/Programming and KATHERINE NELSON who’s taken the title and job of VP/Communications. Ms. Nelson will work with talent management and the network development teams for both networks. She is based at Discovery’s Los Angeles office and will report to Elizabeth Hillman, SVP/Communications.
SUSIE FOGELSON moved up to VP/Marketing and Brand Strategy with Food Network. She will now lead talent brand management strategies and plans as the network is targeting partnerships with its stars beyond television shows. Under marketing, Susie is charged with the strategic development and implementation of all off-air consumer advertising, strategic partnerships and new business marketing for the network.
