West Texas is big…huge if you will…and it’s one of those wide open places in which people know each other and think of their location as a bonding process. So when news that JOSH YOUNG was on his way from Lubbock to Midland, it wasn’t a topsy turvey move. However, what is great about this move is that Josh is going from Director of Marketing to Vice President and General Manager. Alright! There’s actually nobody in a station that knows the in’s and out’s of each operation than the Creative head, and all too seldom does that knowledge get rewarded with a leather padded chair in the corner office. Josh’ new chair will be at KWES-TV in the Midland/Odessa market; the Raycom NBC affil. He’s been at KCBD in Lubbock, where he graduated from Texas Tech. Josh is a West Texas native who grew up in Abilene. Big Texas Well Dunne! to Josh.

Seriously – Creative Services/Marketing/Branding execs are uber-capable of being General Managers, etc. One can learn everything one needs to know about sales, forecasting and setting rates in about a week’s time. However, the knowledge of people and how a station (or any entity) actually works is something that creatives have nailed. Perhaps its time to rethink….
