The following has nothing whatsoever to do with Harvey Weinstein. Let’s talk size. Market size. And the bottom line is, in today’s world, most people don’t really care anymore. Once upon a time the larger the market, the larger the salary. The more toys available to make spots. Largest budgets. Even more prime slots for promos. And the prestige – there was indeed a patina to the market size. Anybody read Hot, Flat and Crowded by Thom Friedman? It sums up the fact that our technology has made those editing and graphics toys available to all. Ownership consolidation has pretty much wiped out the huge market salaries (as a rule) and outside media budgets that were awesome. Today, CSDs, producers, marketing pros – most everyone is looking for an open slot that fits into THEIR lifestyle…closer to family, closer to the mountains/ocean/desert – markets that are more than just a place to live and work. Housing that might be affordable. Culture. Or solitude. Let’s refrain from thinking market size is an indication of talent. Seen spots in NYC that make you drool and seen spots from small markets that do the same. The days of market size are over…it’s all about lifestyle. Carry on.

WALB, a leading content brand in Albany, Ga, is seeking a Director of Marketing and Audience Development. The Director of Marketing and Audience Development is the leader of the station’s marketing department and top brand authority. This role provides expertise and support to News, Digital, and all other local content efforts in the form of multiplatform creative strategies, as well as commercial production services and creative direction to support the Sales mission. The Director of Marketing and Audience Development is responsible for both audience development and revenue generation.

This individual is a hands-on leader, who is expertly skilled in multi-platform marketing, outside media delivery, client creative services projects, communications and community relations activities. Exceptional organization and strategic thinking is required to implement market research recommendations and achieve goals in audience development and revenue growth.

This is a leadership role, managing a creative team in the production of top-quality creative for every screen and coaching with expertise on the latest production technology available to the department.  The Director of Marketing and Audience Development develops the station’s overall marketing strategy, including outside media planning and buying, budgets and employee training modules and is responsible for leading a creative team to produce award-worthy and audience-motivating promotion that will expand the station’s rapidly-growing broadcast and digital media presence.

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Advertising, Film/Video or other related field preferred.

2-3 years experience in a creative leadership position implementing strategic priorities required. Must provide creative reel demonstrating advanced knowledge of video production, especially Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects and DSLR cinematography. Candidate must successfully complete pre-employment drug screen.
