Let it be known…2007 is declared the Year of Unlimited Possibility.

Think about that…unlimited possibility. What comes to mind when you read that? Whatever thoughts that sprang to mind are the areas that you need to focus upon this year. Whether it’s a career change, a relationship, travel, a new place to live, a new physical you, marathons or workout routines, or learning to chill, let’s make 2007 the year when old patterns don’t hold us back. When “the way it was” isn’t going to be the “way it is”. Let’s take time each day and write down the best three things that happened to us and let’s let the bad stuff go its own way.

Unlimited Possibility. Yep, that’s this year.

And as you evolve and progress, we’ll chronicle it here on Well Dunne! Because, as we all know, a journey shared is better than one undertaken alone.

On the fast track is….drum roll please….BRYAN JOHNSON, who has news this last part of 06. Bryan is an Art guy by talent, and yet he writes so very well. Just because it’s already Thursday and because I’m trying to do a bit of holiday relaxation, I’m going to turn the whole caboodle over to Mr. Bryan and let him spill his own great news.

“I’m at KGUN-TV in Tucson, Arizona. I started here as Art Director almost three years ago, gladly accepting additional Promotions Manager responsibilities under CSD STEVE HARRIS last year. Before that, I worked in San Francisco at KRON under CSD JEFFREY WEINSTOCK, and in Portland at KOIN under CSD LARRY MCDANIEL. After falling in love with the world of Marketing and Promotions, I knew that’s where I wanted to grow. Last week, I accepted the Creative Services Director position at brand new, KOHD-TV in Bend, Oregon. The move is not only a promotion, but a homecoming, getting my wife and two beautiful kids closer to our family in Portland. It is also a tremendous opportunity to brand and position the start-up ABC station using the latest in HD equipment. KOHD will be one of only 11 fully High-Def stations in the U.S.”

Bryan’s new boss is GM JERRY UPHAM, who was once at Portland’s KATU. Bryan begins in February. ALL the very best to him!

Like many of you, today is a travel day for me. That’s just a polite and low-key way to say there’s no column about Who and Where, just a nice little posting to say I hope you all had what you most desired for Christmas…whether that be a quiet day of music and reading, the fun of assembling new tech toys, watching the faces of little ones as magic unfolded, or sharing laughter around a table of friends and great food. Most of all, I hope you felt peace. I myself will be leaving a mountain retreat where a babbling brook is the only sound you hear out the back door…the perfect place for my dog to run without fear of cars (she had a smile on her face, I swear it was a real smile)…and the joy of my son’s company. Watch for a special series of holiday columns to appear starting tomorrow. Safe travels for those of you on the road. And for those of you at work, be thankful for the opportunity to use your talents.

Come back tomorrow. Now scoot along…

STEVE HOUK is one of the best communicators around. He’s got a first-rate media e-mail blast that keeps me up-to-date on the goings on at his CBS affil in DC, and he’s a real peach about letting me know whom he brings aboard. I’d give him a gold star if I knew how to do that on this blog space. That being said, let’s turn the focus to Steve’s latest hire, JOHN MALONE. Starting on January 2, the very first work day of 2007, John will be clocking in as the new promotion manager at the Gannett station, whose call letters are officially W*USA. John comes over from Alexandria, VA where he’s been a writer producer for American Forces TV and Radio. John’s been a Sr. Writer Producer at WTTG FOX in DC, where the same Steve Houk was VPCS, so the two have worked together in the past. Love when that happens. Also on John’s resume is a stint as promo manager at UPN20, which is now My20. I might add John has never had to leave DC, which is always a good thing when you’re happy. Thanks guys…and congrats to JM on his switch. Mr. Malone takes the place of DAVID REEVE, who’s celebrating his first holiday season at Gannett’s WFMY in Greensboro, NC.

TV Promotion is now officially in the Second Generation. What does that mean, you ask? Well, it means that there are more sons and daughters who are following in their parents footsteps and taking up the TV Marketing mantel, taking jobs in the biz, and continuing to create magic wherever they go. Some of the finest Promo people were raised by TV people and they chose the promo category. MARSHALL HITES, now of the KCBS stations in Los Angeles is such a person, as is Nashville-based BLAIR PAYNE is another. Now comes STEVEN KOONCE, who I’m told is one hot talent. If the name rings a bell, it means you’ve connected him to his dad, JIM KOONCE the CSD at Las Vegas’ KNTV. C O O L! Steven comes to promo through the excellent TV program at Chapman University down in The OC, ie Orange, California just south of Anaheim. You should check it out…looks like their program is impressive. So, with his growing up having been done in the cool, rainy Seattle/Tacoma area, Steven was very happy s in the warm, dry high desert of Palm Springs, where he was the Nightside Promotion Producer at NBC affil, KMIR. He’s also done work with Metro Traffic and at KVOA in Tucson. As the biz goes, so went his KMIR job. Finding himself in search of a new position, he turned to the great folks of IdeaNet and the Jobs publication. Yes, the entire 602 Communications staff is giving out with an “ah shucks” as they read this. So, with excitement, Mr. Steven and his new boss are announcing his new career step, which begins January 8. PAULA HERSH and everybody at Richmond, VA’s WWBT will welcome him as their new Dayside Promotions Topical Producer. WWBT is the NBC affil in Virginia’s capital and it’s owned by Lincoln Financial Group. All the very best to you, Steven. You sound like ONE TO WATCH, which will be a feature of this column once the New Year dawns. CONGRATS!

Idaho is particularly beautiful this time of year. A very close friend of mine lives there, and I bet her Christmas tree is in front of the window with a view of the nearby mountains. Idaho’s vistas are a draw for Californians, and one such Golden Stater who made her way North and loves it is MELISSA STONER, who has been handling the promotion for Belo’s KTVB. A grad of Boise State, where she roots for the Broncos, Melissa was raised in Pasadena (lovely town…family there) and calls herself an Idafornian, having been in the Spud State since 1992. Ms. Melissa has been upped at her station and takes the spot of long time promo maven, PJ LAWS, who retired this last summer after 32 years. Let me repeat that one…32 years at KTVB. Wow, that might be the longevity record. All the best to Melissa and she promises to keep in touch, keep the station #1 and enjoy the Idaho life. Of course, we will hold her to that keep in touch promise.

MICHAEL GAY, whose name might have been a liability on the playground while growing up, has joined the Digital Team at Hearst Argyle and will take the title Executive Director of Digital Media Content. Michael will leave his job at Chicago CBS’s WBBM where he was Manager of Web Operations. He’ll be officing at Internet Broadcasting Systems near Minneapolis.

Concrete Pictures has added KEVIN LAHR as producer. He has been a producer for PBS Kids. Concrete is in the Philly area.

GUY SLATTERY is the guy taking the place of ARTIE SCHEFF at A&E TV, the official title being VP of Marketing. Guy comes from National Geographic International and is looking forward to the new job. BTW, it took MONTHS for them to fill, just in case you were keeping track.

Out in Fresno at Granite’s NBC affil, KSEE, CSD MATTHEW DAMORE reminds me that earlier in the year they brought aboard KENIA CHAVEZ as Promotion Coordinator. So noted.

In the exciting Madison, WI market comes news from the CW’s CSD DAVE SHELLY. He’s welcoming EMILY FINK to the station. She’s going to be an on-air personality and producer. How did he find her? Ran a contest for Madison’s Next Spokesmodel. Great way to ID talent. She’ll be on locally tapped segments during the syndie strip THE DAILY BUZZ.

Rochester NY is where the national museum of play is. Yes, an entire museum dedicated to the delightful art of playing. How cool is that. Perhaps we should, as we grow into adulthood, plan visits there to rekindle our inner spark. However, the reason I mention Rochester is that their Clear channel ABC affil has a new Creative Service Director. Taking the creative boss role at WHAM is KEVIN KALVITIS. His name is pronounced just as it’s spelled. He’s a Rochester guy through and through, making the jump from NBC affil, Hubbard-owned WHEC from across the street, where he’s been promo director for 4 years after a stint doing Topical promotions as well as actual news producing. As the father of two little blue eyed blonde daughters, ages 3 and 5 months, this holiday is going to be one to remember at the Kalvitis household. Here’s a gift idea that Mrs. K might want to think about: gift certificate to learn tae kwon do. Once those adorable little ones grow up, Dad will have his hands full with all the boys swarming! Congrats Kevin and Happy Christmas!

And today marks the beginning of year #5 that my adorable dog, KATAN (aka SHORTY) came to live with me. Nobody has gotten a better Hanukkah/Christmas present ever!

Let’s play catch up, so we can all celebrate the holidays with a full dance card of who went where. Along the way this year, certain slots were filled, and I’m just now getting around to sharing who was changing desks. One such inadvertently overlooked creative services writer producer is KRISTIN DWORKIN, who stayed in South Carolina, but changed stations, cities, and net affiliations. She is now happily promoting in Greenville at the FOX affil, WHNS.

Down I-85 in Hotlanta, we catch up with STEPHEN JANSA, who’s Design Director for FOX, WAGA. He came over to work at KATHY SOIFER’s shop from Gannett’s WATL in the same city.

While we’re focusing on Design in the south, SEAN McDONALD has taken on the Design Director mantle at Birmingham’s FOX, WBRC. He’s a grad of the excellent Full Sail program down on the outskirts of Winter Park in Orlando, FL. The best editor I’ve ever worked with is a Full Sail man. Kudos to DEANNE BIVINS, CSD, at landing such an upcoming talent.

Out in lovely Bend, OR, which I am told is a real treasure nestled just East of Portland over the Cascade Mountains, comes word of a hire that happened in the summer. See, I told you this is a catch-up column. JENNIFER TROKIE is promo producing for DAN WEIG. Both are happy with the arrangement. Jennifer is a San Diego girl who promo’d at KCBY in Coos Bay before trading the cool wetness for the high desert perfection. I’m told that nearby Mt. Bachelor harbours the best skiing in Oregon.

SCOTT BRADY updated me on two promotions at the FOX Minneapolis operations. TAMMY BLOOM is now Promotion Manager at KMSP, from her job as Promotion Manager at My29, while J.D. MAYES has taken over her slot. He’s still looking for a Sr. Producer, btw.

LIN Broadcasting corporate has decided to beat their own drum and has brought aboard PR vet COURTNEY GUERTIN to handle corporate communications. Based in Rhode Island, Ms. G has a background handling Harrah’s Entertainment as well as being prez of the PRSA SE New England chapter.

And over at Hallmark, a similar sounding name PR pro has been named to do corporate communications. JENNIFER GEISSER, who’s done PR for Court TV, CBS and WE, will stay in NY for the new gig.

Kalamazoo is, indeed, one of the best names of towns in the US. It really is. And the reason I mention it at all is that just north of Kalamazoo is Grand Rapids, where WOOD TV is located. WOOD is the Lin NBC where my dear friend JIM MCCOY was News Director before he lost his battle with bone cancer. Now, WOOD has a new Marketing Director and he’s a honey. KEVIN VANDERKOLK was enjoying Day 2 of new new job when I grabbed him via phone. A native Michigander who was raised in Holland and Lansing, Kevin has moved west 50 miles from his last job as CSD at Gray Communications’ NBC affil WILX. And yes, he’s still commuting at the moment while he and the Mrs. look for a new place. The Mrs., btw, is a former TV GM who got out of the biz and is living a happily ever after life. More on her later. Back to Kev. Did you know he was at one time a TV News reporter and anchor? Sure was. He’s worked in Detroit, Chicago and Cadillac Michigan. Yes, this is a man who has strong ties to Lake Michigan. Besides his wife, making the move will be TILLY VANDERKOLK, a rescued bulldog who is fast becoming spoiled in the best way possible. GREAT to catch up with you, Kevin. Keep in touch and Congrats!

DICK GOGGIN, who’s had gigs at WCNC in Charlotte, as well as FOX in Indy andGreenville SC has taken a spot at an Indianapolis marketing firm. He’s now a Brand Strategist at Brandirect, Inc.

And working in DC is former St. Louis KDNL news topical producer MANNY ALVAREZ. He’s been quietly working at Albritton’s WJLA. Ah, I thought most folks wanted to tell me about their new jobs!

WMAK is located in the lovely Tennessee hamlet of Knoxville, noted for being home to the University of Tennessee as well as gorgeous vistas of mountains. It’s also home to WMAK TV, a dedicated independent channel. MATT WATERS heads up Production and Promotion there and he was kind enough to let me know about his new hire. Joining as new commercial producer is LINDSAY BROWN, a local lady who he grabbed from across the street at WBIR, Gannett’s NBC affil. Lindsay also moves up in responsibilities, having graduated from being a Production Assistant. According to what I hear, she’s bright, ambitious, knows the market, and is getting the full Welcome Aboard treatment at her new station. Great way to wind up the year.

Is it a guy thing to think that being the Marketing Manager for an all-sports cable channel is the ultimate job? I mean, wouldn’t most guys jump at a chance like that? Seems they would. And that means that MIKE STANFORD has achieved the ultimate in his gig at Catch 47, the 24/7 sports cable channel out of St. Pete, FL. It’s part of the Brighthouse Networks. Mike has worked in Texas, in lovely San Antonio, at News 9 as well as CBS’ KEYE in Austin. His last job before taking over at Catch was at NBC affil KNWA and KFTA in Fayetteville, AR. Shall we ask him if he has one of those red plastic Pig Sooie hats? Ok, let’s not. Enjoy the beautiful Gold Coast of Florida, Mike. Spring training is just around the corner!

And a thumbs up congrats to BARBARA BLANDIARDI’s new SVP status at NBCU. She’s now handling strategic marketing across the entire NBCU stable.

All of today’s news comes from the fine folks at Albritton’s ABC affil, WJLA in DC. Let’s face it, changes come in waves. And who are the creatives and news types waving hello to? None other than SARAH SEATON, who’ll show up on January 8th to begin writing and producing. Sarah is moving from Bluegrass Country, Lexington, KY, where she’s been a producer at Cordillera Communications’ NBC affiliate, WLEX. The Omaha native, who has been known to teach swimming lessons, has been in Lexington for 15 months. Before that, she graduated from Asbury College in Wilmore, KY. Congrats, Ms. Sarah! Keep in touch!

Meanwhile, the same folks are waving goodbye to SETH GRONQUIST. He’s heading home to the beautiful mountain town of Asheville, NC. There, he’ll be taking his first management position as Promotion Manager at Sinclair’s ABC affil, WLOS. If you remember correctly, Seth left Asheville for DC about 2 years ago. According to the grapevine, Seth is one to watch.

Did you know the Hallmark Channel is the sponsor of the Rockette’s Holiday High Kicking at Radio City? Yep, they’ve been doing that for six years now. Cool.

Was that ANTON KOZIKOWSKI at the Santa Fe Film Festival? Was that SARA DIAZ working on her film at Clemson last week? If you answered “yes” to either or both of those questions, reward yourself for being correct.

Did you know about the contest Avid Technologies has going? Thanks to RONN KILBY out in gorgeous San Diego, we now all know about the “We Fired Our Ad Agency” contest, with a trip to Sundance as the prize. Bottom line – make a commercial using Avid. So Ronn wrote a little sumthin, grabbed his son SEAN, headed to downtown SD with actor BRIAN MINTER and they came up with what you can see here: http://avid.moviemaker.com/view.php?user=arkay2. You can vote for him (even several times according to the rules) and have til the last day of the year. He didn’t say he would, but if he wins, I’ll make sure he sends us all postcards from Sundance!

Remember when I told you that CHAD MALLEM is headed to Tinsel Town? Well, I forgot to tell you he’s a Dallas guy to boot. Love those Texas men!

Caught THE HOLIDAY this weekend and am still a huge fan of Nancy Myers, the writer director. However, I want to bring this to the table: CAMERON DIAZ plays a movie trailer company owner in the film, and she lives in the most AMAZING place in either Brentwood or Pacific Palisades, which must have cost, not including all the gear and furniture, $5mil. I have yet to meet anybody who writes and produces that has such a layout, but I like the idea of it all. I know – it’s only a movie.

Chad Mallem is going Hollywood. Yep, he’s going to leave his wonderful job in the city by the bay, San Francisco, and head south to the land of palm trees, movie stars and bright lights. Ah, my lovely LA. Actually, he’ll be living in the Hollywood Hills when he takes up residence and begins his new job Jan 2. A new year and a new job..perfect! Chad has such style. Perhaps he needs a great pair of designer shades as a holiday gift. ANYWAY, Mr. M’s last day at CBS’s own KPIX is December 15 and he’ll take that writer producer talent down to NBC U Cable, where he’ll be the writer producer editor for emerging networks. All his new work will be in SD and HD. Definitely moving into the 21st century. Obviously, we intend to keep up with Chad and wish him all the best!

Feliz Navidad y’all. Down in San Antonio NICK LUCIO has joined the Art Department at Belo’s CBS affil KENS. Previously, Nick worked in the art department of News 9, a joint Belo and Time-Warner 24-hour news venture in San Antonio, and was on the web design team for an e-learning company, also based in San Antonio. Thanks so much to Art Director KYLE CONTRERAS for the update. And ps – Nick – Kyle is thrilled to have you on board.

Note to all: if you get the chance, visit San Antonio before Christmas. Down along their unique River Walk they present the most wondrous La Posada, a ceremony that is guaranteed to be as moving and entertaining as you’ve ever seen.

Quite day with just a few notes to share. Some days are like that.

Adieu Miami and hello Hampton Roads. So is the life of SCOTT CRAVEN, who was hard at work this November at WGNT in Norfolk, VA. The CBS owned CW station’s creative efforts are headed by Chris Wolfe, who came up from Florida as well. Scott was at Miami’s WB39 in Hollywood. The East coast version.

Get our your crayons, we’ve got news about Nickelodeon Preschool. ANGELA LEANEY is now SVP Creative Director.

And over in the Valley, ALLIE CARSIA is the new Director of Marketing for Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel. Previously, Carsia was with Reed Television Group.

Egads…the blogger site has been down all day. AND they changed the way they have you post. WAY too much change for a blog, but there you are. So, let us begin.

Wow…another baby has joined the ranks of KOP – Kids of Promotion. Welcoming a little girl just three weeks ago was CBS Detroit’s PAM SHECTER. She’ll be back on the job the end of January, and will have the entire holiday season to enjoy her new bundle of joy. How exciting. Thanks to Promo Manager MARCY RIBIT for the happy news.

In the lovely Carolina coastal town of Wilmington comes word of a new Promo Manager. STEVE KLEM is happy to stay put and not have to leave this lovely part of the world. A film guy who’s worked on DAWSON’S CREEK and the feature 28 DAYS with Sandra Bullock, Steve is using his background in the world of TV now. He’s at Morris Network’s ABC affil WWAY. Originally from the DC area, the Maryland side, he’s glad to have chosen a life filled with fewer cars and more seagulls. I hear ya. Congrats and keep in touch!

The welcome mat is out for CATHERINE MORAN, who’s walking into Comedy Central as VP of Consumer and Trade Marketing. The NYC based gig will put the CTAM Marketing Council member at work after her jobs with USA. AMC and SciFi and her latest, Lifetime. Way to go. Comedy Central must be a hoot to work with, n’est-ce pas?

And finally, sad news from LA. RONNIE LIPPIN, the president of entertainment PR firm The Lippin Group, died from a rare form of breast cancer Monday at Cedars. She was only 59 and was, as they say, the ultimate dynamo. It’s hard to imagine such energy no longer with us. Her husband, Dick Lippin, will continue to run the biz, known as the PR agency to the stars.

Great news from Minnesota, and I’m not talking about the state landing in the number one slot on the Healthiest State List, although it most certainly did. Nope, I’m talking about the forward thinking decision at CBS owned WCCO. Their new GM, SUSAN ADAMS LOYD (a local girl who was thrilled to come back North after spending career time in Florida) was faced with replacing the Creative Services Director when WENDY MCMAHON stepped up to Boston. After observing and listening, the aforementioned Ms. Loyd decided to try something different and split the job between two folks already on staff. Handling the Branding portion of the station is gifted CASEY KESPOHL while handling the Production portion will be SCOTT WOOLDRIDGE. Yes, they both miss Wendy, because there are times in one’s career when it all comes together and the three were in that magic space. However, the eye-turning creative and impeccable production will continue.

Meanwhile, as a celebration of sorts, CASEY took a week off (end of book, of course) and went to Malta. Now, I have never known anybody who’s gone to Malta, so hearing about it was most intriguing. The Illinois native (from the Quad Cities) enjoyed the blends of culture and was most impressed with the ancient city of Medina. He spent time wandering this beautiful place, seeing only three people all day long. Obviously, there are no cell phone towers or wi-fi outlets, so it must have been the ultimate in relaxation. Yep, an island in the Mediterranean is the place to get away from it all. Must ask him if he has pictures.

THIS JUST IN….please forgive me, but I have so wanted to do that, and now I can thanks to a wonderfully talented lady, KPRC’s ANDREA LAIGN. Her last name, btw, is pronounced “Lane” rhymes with cane. Anyway, the effervescent Andrea of the Post Newsweek Houston Creative Services Department has news that she’s thrilled to share. She’s going home to the DC area, taking the open Writer Producer slot with one of my favorite guys ever – STAN MELTON JR of ABC affil WJLA. She gave her notice just an hour ago (based on when this is written, not when you get around to reading about it) and will be back East to share the holidays with the family that has kept her phone bill anything but low. What does Ms. Laign have to say about her new gig, other than she’s thrilled and happy? “Finally, a safe place to be a Redskins fan.”

Meanwhile at the very same WJLA, we’re waiting to hear what PHIL KRAFT has on his dance card, since he will be heading back to the Miami market after working in the nation’s capital as well as Charlotte. Phil’s wife, a traffic engineer (isn’t that COOL?) has taken a job in Miami and he’ll be doing the Good Husband thing.

More about everything tomorrow. Stay warm if you’re in the Midwest, and stay cool if you’re in LA.

Time to celebrate Friday once again. What is it about Friday that makes it so, well, wonderful? I do believe it’s my favorite day. This decision has nothing to do with the fact I once had TGI Fridays restaurant chains as a client.

It’s been a very busy month, with many of you so consumed that hirings were on the bottom of the list. But there’s going to be lots of news beginning next week, because I keep getting calls, asking if I know of someone they could bring on board. YES, I can help. Just email me and we’ll point you to someone that might fit your bill.

While you’re weekending, check out www.charlotteenergysolutions.com to see how you can save money and help the planet. The site is going to get a total makeover, so drop in for the “Before” version.

Hey, what happened to STEVE WILKINS who was in Greensboro, NC as the CSD? Anybody who can direct me his way, please feel free to share info. The Gannett CBS affil isn’t without a leader. DAVID REEVE is set to keep it rockin’. He’s in the process of moving down from DC. More on him when I get a chance to spend a few on the phone.

Now that another November sweeps is over, and you have a few moments to live a real life again, why not congratulate yourself for jobs well done. Do something special for yourself. Get that massage you’ve been thinking about. Or take an extra long yoga class. Or buy a really good bottle of Santa Barbara chardonnay. If you don’t take care of yourself, who will?

Monday After Thanksgiving

Did we all have a good holiday? Of course we did! While we gathered with friends and family, one of us decided to expand her family! Welcoming a brand new addition to the world is WJLA’s Promotion Manager, BONNIE WOOD. She and hubby SKIP are parents to BRANSON JAMES WOOD, who showed up weighing 6 pounds and is 19.5 inches long. He’ll look adorable in those fabulous baby outfits! He made his debut in Fairfax, VA in the DC area, which means he’s right in the middle of the action that DC is known for. BONNIE promised her boss, STAN MELTON JR that she’d make it through sweeps before giving birth, and she came darn close. Everybody sends their very best your way, Bonnie, and if you send a picture, I can post it!
All the news comes from Virginia today. Down in the Hampton Roads part of the state…you know the area of Norfolk, Virginia Beach and all those lovely bridges…comes word that GREGORY STEVENS has been named Traffic Assistant at Cox Media Hampton Roads. It’s a promotion, actually, since he’s been with Cox for about 18 months already. A Tidewater Community College guy, he’s taken classes in Biz Admin and Marketing Management, both of which he’ll no doubt use in his new duties. Congrats, Gregory!

And an announcement from moi…a new client. For those of you who heat their homes (readers below the Mason Dixon line can check out here if you’re pressed for time), learn about how corn stoves can save you money while saving the planet. Yea, I said corn. Cut your heating bills to about $60 a month. Less than most condo fees. I’ll have your website tomorrow. ENERGY SOLUTIONS is a green company you’ll want to know about.

Back to work everybody. Enjoy!
