MELISSA MURPHY is one of those lucky ladies…never had to scrape an icy windshield during a snowstorm. She’s a Florida girl who is hard at work as the newest member of Cox’s Orlando Florida operation, WFTV. She’s handling Topicals, and from what I hear from her CSD BOB ST. CHARLES, she’s kickin’ it. Bob grabbed her fresh out of The University of Central Florida and handed her over to CHRIS STEVENS, who has a Newsroom background. Bingo…the lady is using the Avid just like that. Congrats, Melissa, and Well Dunne!

National music TV channel Fuse has named VALERIE GREEN to be the new Sr. VP of Marketing. Way cool. She comes to Fuse from 8 years at Cablevision’s Digital Commerce and Marketing division. The UVA grad (oldest higher learning institution in the US, but you all knew that, right?) has also been VP of Marketing and Network Brand Development at WE, where she was a huge part of their launch as Romance Classics in ’97. The music side of her resume includes stints as GM of SPIN, marketing director of ROLLING STONE and PREMIERE mags as well as consulting for Conde Nast and News Corp. Wow. Well Dunne! Valerie.

Break out the sunglasses and chalk one up for love. PHIL KRAFT, who I discovered in the newsroom in Charlotte, is the new Sr. Writer Producer for Marketing at COX’s market-leading ABC affil WFTV in Orlando, FL. He’ll be leaving the fine folks at CBS’s KPIX in the Bay Area to make the move across country. The reason? Love. His wife TANYA has a fab new gig in the Sunshine state. She’s a traffic engineer, and the two relative newlyweds have been on opposite coasts for quite some time now. You can imagine the fun in that…not. SO, Mr. Phil pitched for the job and CSD BOB ST. CHARLES agreed it was a great fit. Phil has been promoing at ABC affil WJLA for CSD STAN MELTON JR, too. Don’t you just love it when the kids grow up and do well? Well Dunne! Phil. See you soon!

I love the way The Sportsman Channel wrote about the new job given to JENNIFER GNAS. TSC said she was elevated. Isn’t that a great way to say promoted? She’s now … Senior Coordinator/Public Relations and Event Planning. Also at the channel which focuses on ‘all hunting, all fishing all the time’ comes word of another elevation. TRACY MARTIN is now Coordinator/Affiliate Marketing. Well Dunne! ladies!

Stephen Arnold Music has news. There’s a new release of their Box Of Rocks tunes. All kinds of music for politics, drama and sports. Doesn’t that sum up what 2008 will bring? Sure does. For more info, go to Stephen’s site by clicking here.

Expanding their marketing department (don’t you LOVE to hear those words!) is WE tv. The Big Apple based cable net has hired NYU Masters holder JENNIFER KRANZ as vice president of advertising and branding. Jennifer comes from Lifetime and has also worked at NBCU’s SciFi Channel and USA Network. But wait – there’s more. Former Hallmark Channel VP of Ad Sales JENNIFER MCGUIGAN is WE tv’s new vice president of trade marketing. She’s a Middlebury grad. And completing the hat trick is Franklin & Marshall’s KEREN UNRAD who comes over from Oxygen. Way to go and Well Dunne!

No dummies they. Read about how smart the marketing folks are at the online nets. You know, back in ’88, the strike took eyeballs from TV sets and put them on cable nets. Now, I predict, the strike will put eyeballs online, which is what the strike is all about. Click here. And thanks to TVWeek.
