Unless you’ve been living on another planet, you’re probably aware that this evening JAY LENO starts on the new 10 pm version of the Tonight Show. NBC put a lot into promoting this. And the pressure’s on for numbers.
Getting ready for LA Fashion’s Night Out? You could win $1,000. Not too shabby. That would buy half a purse at Neimans, which is better than no purse at all….
JOB ALERT: SoapNet in LA needs a SR WRITER/PRODUCER for ON-AIR PROMOS. Don’t have to edit, but do have to supervise. 5 years experience at least. And you’d work for The Mouse www.disneycareers.com ID #206284
Respected TV writer Diane Mermingas weighs in on TV News’ need to reinvent itself.
Thanks TV Academy…they’re putting interviews with the Legends of TV on the web. Info here.
My mother, 91, fell and broke her hip at the movie theatre (she loves ADAM SANDLER). That was Saturday evening. Sunday she was operated on and she’s now on a walker. Don’t let anybody tell you ‘things are bad’ and never give up. Thanks for listening.
Think About This: “What if you, like the Buddha Siddhartha, suddenly realized that the whole world you’d invested in was no more than a lovely theatrical stage meant to distract your from true life? What then? Would you, like Jim Carey in ‘The Truman Show; have the courage to walk off the set? Or like Keanu Reeves in ‘The Matrix’ swallow the blue pill?” ~ Regina Sara Ryan
Heading to Charlotte’s FOX affiliate to help out CSD JEFF ARROWOOD is writer producer NATE TODD, previously with CBS affil WFMY and NBC affil WXII, both in Greensboro, NC. That’s right up the road from Charlotte. I’m gonna guess that Nate is a NC guy and he probably knows about Smithfield Chicken. Hopefully somebody is going to bring that to C-town and make a mint. Hey, Nate. Well Dunne!
Today’s the first day for ANDREW CALIENDO at Tucson’s NBC affil, KVOA. Go get ‘em Andrew!
Yes, NBC is going to do a show promoting their new lineup. No, its not earthshaking news, but this was interesting: it will play 306 times across cable and broadcast platforms — not counting online streaming and airline plays. If you want to know more, click here.
Speaking of NBC (this is not a sponsored blog and NBC didn’t slip me any cash – just the way it goes), check out the NYTimes story on JAY LENO’s upcoming 10pm show launch. Love that JOHN MILLER.
MSG (Madison Square Garden, not the food additive) welcomes STACEY ESCUDERO to the PR department. Stacey is going to handle the business PR for MSG Sports, and will call BARRY WATKINS, SVP of Comm and SCOTT O’NEILL, President, her boss. Well Dunne!
AGAIN we need to look at phone systems. Does your station NOT want to talk to anyone, because that’s the message being sent out over and over. When a phone system is useless, it wastes my time and it says your station/network is more important than my time. Is that REALLY the message you want to send out? Really?

Who is singing ‘California Here I Come’? The lovely and talented JORDANA HOUCHINS, who is going to head west over the Memorial Day weekend, the Golden State her destination. SoCal to be exact….LA baby! Jordana will be departing WCCB, Bahakel’s FOX affiliate in Charlotte to take a Promo Producer slot at Trib’s KTLA. Yep, the KTLA over on Sunset…the one with such cool Hollywood history. She won’t be wheeling down Route 66 – no time. She’ll wing it over FlyOver Country, her car to be delivered soon after. See, her new position begins next week. This isn’t the first time Jordana has made the all the way cross-country trek…she moved to Charlotte from her native Seattle, where she worked at KING. Her background in TV News (KENS in San Antonio) combined with her promo background should be just the ticket for KTLA. A huge Hollywood Well Dunne! Jordana. You’ll love LA, just as long as you give yourself time for the traffic.
That means CSD JEFF ARROWOOD (great boss here folks) in Charlotte needs to replace her. Job Alert! If you’re looking for an extremely cutting-edge shop where creativity is the first priority, get Jeff your reel and resume.
CBS News has dubbed SONYA MCNAIR VP/Communications. Sonya has done media relations for ABC News and comes to the EyeNet from doing PR at New Yorker. She’ll work with JEFF BALLABON, SVP/Communications, CBS News. Well Dunne! Sonya
Speaking of cutting edge, the new Toyota Prius spot, named “Harmony” is awesome. I’d post it, but there seems to be a You Tube glitch about it, so you’ll have to click to watch the Behind The Scenes Making Of…so much more exciting.
Speaking of car spots (no, didn’t intend to but that’s where we’re going), check out the great GM ads from over the years…and wonder what happened.
Ladies first…was Oprah asked to do her thing for NBC before Jay? TV Week says yes. The story maintains Jay was actually the third choice…ouch.
So, online net shows are going to save the TV industry? Maybe not. One analyst says it will actually kill it.
