Boy, things are heating up in Houston, and it’s not just the weather. We’ve already spilled the story about KELLY LAMBERT heading to NBC affil KPRC as Brand Manager. Now we’re adding MICHAEL PENIX as Promotion Manager at the Post Newsweek station. It’s a homecoming for Michael, who was doing promo producing across town for TOM ASH over at ABC’s KTRK. That was before he went to Columbia, South Carolina where he headed up the creative department for Gannett’s WLTX in SC’s capital. Other stops along the way for the University of Oklahoma grad include KFOR in OKC and KTUL in Tulsa, his hometown. He should get to know Tulsa native and Well Dunne! Talent voice MARK DRISCOLL. A big Well Dunne! Michael.
Thought your Monday was not up to snuff? Try being RICK SNYDER over at the Speed Channel. Let’s just say it isn’t often one gets to say your week began with a naked man breaking into your offices. Details here.
Speaking of not being up to snuff…GoDaddy had to be taken to the woodshed for their problems with something about advanced hosting of the Well Dunne! Talent site. Thank heavens for the best IT person ever, BRANDON ANJELENO. He nearly had the phone growing out of his ear – that’s how long he had them on the phone to finally get it straightened away. Hugs and Well Dunne! Brandon. GoDaddy – not so much.

I write about lots of great, creative people. But when you write about someone special, it’s the most fun. Today, it’s fun to tell you about DON SMITH. Mr. Don isn’t just muy creative, he’s also one of the good guys. And he’s been offered…and he accepted…the Creative Services Director job at CBS’ KOVR in Sacramento. He’s been there for a few years as Promo Manager, and this step into the “big chair” is going to be a real plus for the Sacto market. The station is very special to me…it was once owned by a friend’s father and was where a dear, departed colleague worked magic. Don fits into the KOVR family like a glove. He’s a southern gentlemen hailing from Lake Charles, LA and has worked for Belo at their San Antonio and Houston operations, KENS and KHOU respectively. He did a super job at Hearst’s WESH in Orlando and went west to Salt Lake City’s KTVX. Many of you know Don as the guy who puts together that super blog, Idopromoz. So I know you’ll join me in sending out a great big Well Dunne! Don. So happy and proud.
It’s a girl for Mama CANDACE HIRLEMAN ARCHER. Making her absolutely beautiful debut is Ella Kaliani Archer. Gorgeous Hawaiian middle name which mean Heaven. And she is one bit of heaven here on this planet. Candace is the VP of Creative Services at KGO in San Francisco. Wonderful news.

Finally – you can now multitask breakfast thanks to Wired Waffles. What is a wired waffle? It’s a delicious breakfast treat that has caffeine in the waffle! Flavors include the ever popular Bacon Maple. Who could ask for anything more?

99 Tigers and 98 Monkeys…not the inventory at the London Zoo taken last week but way cool marketing/branding company names. The NY, Venice and Dallas based company has welcomed DIANA LOCHRIDGE aboard where she’ll not just be part of the 99 Tigers creative output, but heading up all those Monkeys. One can NEVER go wrong with a monkey (Well Dunne‘s Advertising Law 2). Diana has quite the creative pedigree – her last position was VP Creative Services at truTV. She’s also got VH1, HBO, Crossroads Television and Charlie Company experience. And she’s an Arizona State grad to boot. Well Dunne! Diana.

Think About This: "A human being is part of the whole, called by us ‘Universe,’ a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole [of] nature in its beauty." ~ Albert Einstein
Starting 2013 off on the right note is ANDREW ECKMAN who has been promoted to Promotion Manager for Central Coast ABC, known in the call letter world as KSBW. It’s in the most gorgeous part of the country, Monterrey CA is. That whole central coast…sublime. Andrew is a native Californian who was raised in Pleasanton, just outside San Fran. He went to school at Penn State (and even worked as a Sports Information intern) and did TV interning at FOX in the Bay Area, KTVU. He’s been at KSBW since ’08, first as a photog/editor in News then jumping to Creative. He’s obviously done a great job, what with the promotion. A shout out to his boss, one of my faves, DEILIA WILLIAMS. Well Dunne! Andrew.

Think About This: “All I know is that I’ve wasted all these years looking for something, a sort of trophy I’d get only if I really, really did enough to deserve it. But I don’t want it anymore, I want something else now, something warm and sheltering, something I can turn to, regardless of what I do, regardless of who I become. Something that will just be there, always, like tomorrow’s sky. That’s what I want now, and I think it’s what you should want too. But it will be too late soon. We’ll become too set to change. If we don’t take our chance now, another may never come for either of us.” ~ Kazuo Ishiguro (When We Were Orphans)
A real New Yorker. Born and raised in Manhattan. Even has his degree from NYU. That’s MATT BOLINE who is going to venture forth to Connecticut soon when he takes the Brand Manager job at Hartford’s WVIT. He’s leaving behind his slot at WNBC in, of course, New York. This will be his first time flying creative pilot, and he sounds like he’ll be the best. Well Dunne! Matt.
That’s WJAR’s DAVE RAWSON in the picture today. He’s been uber busy, but we caught up and…I have to correct that he worked at WTEN in Albany, NY, not WALB in Albany, GA. It’s a mistake any overly tired blonde could make. Another Well Dunne! to Dave.

Think About This: "The greatest gift you will ever have is your life, and the second greatest gift-which you give yourself-is courage to live it to the fullest. The holidays were just great, but frankly, they also were a puzzle. Anybody else get confused on what day it was last week? Thank you computer for sorting that out. Mentioning this because there’s a great new creative down East and it’s a tad tardy getting around to him. Let’s hear it for WJAR’s Marketing Director, DAVE RAWSON. Dave is definitely a New Englander and even has his degree from University of Maine. He’s been CSD at Fox affil WFFF/WVNY in Burlington, VT and was Promotion Manager at Raycom’s WALB in Albany, New York’s capital. WJAR is Media General’s NBC station in the Providence market. A warm and sincere Well Dunne! Dave.

It’s been a particularly tough week for the country, as well as for a lot of people who read Well Dunne! Jobs being eliminated…departments being downsized…new management structures that appear to make decisions a little harder to come by…an InBox of work that will never seemingly be cleaned out. To that end, Well Dunne! is going to expand their job finding focus. Tomorrow, details on jobs for Creatives will be shared and we’ll all be able to have a more focused site in which to find our heart’s desire. Or at least health insurance. As they say in TV, stay tuned.
Since the entire readership of Well Dunne! is composed of the most talented writers, graphic artists, editors, talent, producers, cartoonists, musicians and the like…it comes as no surprise that our group has fostered bloggers. It’s time to salute them, support them and, in my case, list them for you. So kicking off today’s BLOG SPOTLIGHT (which could use another clever name if anyone wants to share) is W*USA’s STEVE HOUK. Steve’s a musician (that’s him at the mic in the pix) when he isn’t promoing, and his band keeps parts of the DC area sounding great on weekends. His blog is www.midliferocker.com Check it out!
Got a blog to share? Let me know via LINKED IN. And any news via LINKED IN will be idea. Let’s put an end to spam and communicate.
