Jul 22, 2009 by     Comments Off on Well Dunne! for July 22, 2009    Posted under: Chris Alexander, Chuck Harrell, David Ogilvie P3 Production Update, Mark Pearson, Mitch Phillips, Steven Melnick, Sue Raymer

Drum roll please…welcome to the world Charles Harrell III. The newest member of the planet made his debut yesterday in the San Francisco area. His dad is KTVU writer producer CHUCK HARRELL. His mom is the lovely EMMA. Can’t wait to spoil this little guy! Very very Well Dunne! kids.

Further down the Pacific coast, Twentieth Century Fox TV has made some changes, turning one division into two. Corporate communications Senior VP
CHRIS ALEXANDER will head up publicity and talent relations, while brand management and strategy Senior VP MARK PEARSON has been tapped to oversee marketing and research. Marketing Senior VP STEVEN MELNICK will oversee 20th’s new-media initiatives. Yep, all about branding and communicating. Well Dunne!

Sorry to have missed voice talent’s MITCH PHILLIPS birthday. He’s got such a great set of pipes. Yesterday was the day he used those lungs to blow out the birthday cake candles.

Saying adieu to The Hollywood Reporter (or as they woefully now call it THR) is former promo pro SUE RAYMER. She’s exiting the trade to take the Director of Sales at P3 Production Update Magazine. Excellent!

Comic con is on again. Read about some of the ways promos are being used.

If I sound unfair…so be it. But doesn’t the concept of “the Girls of Spike” brings about visions of a Hooters hunt? You be the judge.

Today is the anniversary of ad great DAVID OGILVY’s passing. Read what advice he had for business. It’s a MUST read.

Congrats to the BDA Winners! Well Dunne! Talent’s MITCH PHILLIPS, who was the announcer at the event, says it was a great show. Well Dunne! to one and all. Who won? Try this, it’s been hit or miss getting it to work, but this is the site.

Tonight is the PROMAX Awards show, and Well Dunne! Talent’s ED GREEN will be the man behind the mike. Yeah, it’s great fun for everybody. Ed’s voice is one you all might remember from the Lord of the Rings trailers. Cool.

LISH has been named director of Corporate Innovation for Hearst Corporation and senior vice president of Hearst Interactive Media. In this newly created position, Polish is developing and leading an employee innovation program focusing on inspiring Hearst’s nearly 20,000 employees, across more than 200 businesses, to develop their creative business ideas into profitable ventures with the support of the company. Polish has held senior management positions in media, finance, private investment and technology.

Coming on board at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) is RUSSELL ARONS, whose biz card will read SVP/Worldwide Marketing. She (yes, Russell is a lady…see the picture) comes over from Electronic Arts, the game company, where she handled marketing. At one time, she had another cool title: VP and GM of Barbie at Mattel. Well Dunne! Russell.

Well Dunne! for June 16, 2009

Jun 16, 2009 by     Comments Off on Well Dunne! for June 16, 2009    Posted under: 30 Rock, BDA, Grant Fenster, Judah Friedlander, Mitch Phillips, Molly Kelly, PROMAX, Quantel freelance, Weigel Broadcasting, WKOW

As PROMAX kicks off in NYC this morning, station-side creatives are hard at work in their own offices or, sadly, wondering what their next opportunity will be. Cut-backs have done just that, cut a wide swatch through the industry. The word “echo” was used to describe a Top 5 operation where so many have been jettisoned, it was shocking. OK, that said, let’s move on with an eye to the future and a note to be kind to each other. You meet the same people going up as you do going down.

If you ARE at PROMAX, check out MITCH PHILLIPS tonight when he and Judah Friedlander of NBC’s 30 Rock are all about the bda Awards. Mitch is Well Dunne! Talent.

MOLLY KELLY got a boot upstairs. The lovely Irish lass (with that name, how could she not be?) has been named Station Manager for WCIU, WWME and WMEU, the three Weigel Broadcasting stations in Chicago. Molly has been with the group as Director of Marketing and Promotions. Along the way, Molly has been at WOOD in Grand Rapids as well as WISN in Milwaukee. Congrats and Well Dunne! Miss Molly.

While we’re in that neck of America, over in Madison Wisconsin comes word that GRANT FENSTER has been writing and producing Topicals at WKOW, the ABC affil in the state capital of the Badger State. Yes, the one owned by Quincy Newspapers. Before transitioning to promos, Grant was producing the AM News show. Well Dunne!

Freelance Job: Have experience on a Quantel and want some freelance opps? Easy as pie. Go to the Quantel website and check out the Freelancers section. Good luck and keep me posted.

Well Dunne! for June 15, 2009

Jun 15, 2009 by     Comments Off on Well Dunne! for June 15, 2009    Posted under: 99 Tigers, Astra Dorf, BDA, Bill Price, Bob Saget, Brett Karley, David Seeley, Ed Green, Glenn Lazzaro, Judah Friedlander, Marc Lucas, Mitch Phillips, PROMAX, Razorfish

Heading to PROMAX? I know I said I was, but things just didn’t work out. Nonetheless, you’ll have info and all kinds of updates here. The wonder of modern technology. If you ARE on hand in NYC, give the voices at the Awards shows an extra round of applause. Both are Well Dunne! Talents. Voicing along with emcee Judah Friedlander of 30 Rock at the BDA Show is MITCH PHILLIPS. He’s a doll and a New Yorker at heart. The PROMAX Award voice is ED GREEN, who will help emcee Bob Saget announce all the winners. You need Mitch and Ed, too, you know. Make that next project a ‘for the books” home run. Well Dunne! you two. So proud.

What do you do with 99 Tigers? You brand and promote with them, that’s what. 99 Tigers is the new entity of former Crossroads’ GLENN LAZZARO and DAVID SEELEY, who have formed their own company for on-air promotion, network marketing, and collaborative efforts with affinity agencies. Joining Lazzaro and Seeley at 99 Tigers are BRETT KARLEY, producer, and ASTRA DORF, who will continue to head up marketing for the group. Their recent clients include ABC, CBS, Bravo, Univision, Oxygen, MSG, iVillage, and the United Nations. Also working with the company will be L.A.-based director BILL PRICE. Well Dunne! Tigers.

MARC LUCAS jumps from group creative director to executive creative director at Razorfish. That’s him there on the right.

Wrangling creatives can be a lot like herding cats. But the NYT’s recent article about how to do it, via noted game designer Will Wright, is worth the read.

May 26, 2009 by     Comments Off on Well Dunne! for May 26, 2009    Posted under: Bright House Network jobs, Don Smith, Kevin Machado, KOLA, Mitch Phillips, Well Dunne Talent

Tuesday coffee tastes suspiciously like Monday coffee…

Over this holiday weekend, exciting events were afoot for DON SMITH, the CSD at Salt Lake City’s ABC affil, KTVX. He got engaged! The lovely Nicole has said “yes”. Of course she did. She’s in Orlando, where Don used to work at WESH in Winter Park. Congrats! Such happy news!

Did anybody see the Papa John’s pizza spots this weekend? There were on tons and tons via my Direct TV hookup. Why mention it? Because Well Dunne! Talent’s MITCH PHILLIPS was part of the spot. His deep tones will be on hand at the upcoming PROMAX Conference when he emcees the bda Awards. Cool.

More Well Dunne! Talent info…KEVIN MACHADO’s radio show at KOLA in the LA market is #1 in that all important 35-64 demo. Yep, that’s my demo and probably yours. Good going Kevin!

Job Alert! Bright House Networks down in St. Pete, FL has some openings on their marketing team. Marketing Manager: Broadcast and Production and Sr. Marketing Manager, Creative Media Content and Production to be precise. Check them all out and if you’re interested, let me know via Facebook, Twitter or Linked In.

What is wrong with the way some advertisers are approaching things? Well, for one, it’s short term and negatively impacts the brand. So why are attack ads getting attention?

Speaking of ads, interesting article that might just work. From a weather guy of all things!

Nice article on The CW’s marketing in NYT.

Feb 17, 2009 by     Comments Off on Tuesday, February 17, 2009    Posted under: Barbara Sobocinski, Brown Bag DC, Jim McNulty, Mitch Phillips, Stan Melton Jr

What’s a great way to spend the grey, cold day of February? BARBARA SOBOCINSKI, former Vice President at Frank Magid and former VP Marketing and Programming at St. Pete’s WTPS has the perfect answer. She’s sailing in the Caribbean as we speak. Let’s all sail along with her via her website where one can take a gander at photos and read her log. She’d love it. She’s in Nassau at the moment. A huge thanks to PAUL GREELEY (www.thecreativespin.com) for the great info on Barbara. Well Dunne! ya’ll.

Speaking of heads up…try an ears up for Voice Man MITCH PHILLIPS new website and take a gander at his new logo. If you haven’t given Mitch a listen in a bit, you’re missing one smooth sound. Well Dunne! Mitch.

Speaking of websites, good pal STAN MELTON JR has hung out his own creative shingle and is calling it Brown Bag. Click on the name and give Stan your support.

Heading east from beautiful Knoxville, TN to the ‘burbs of DC is JIM MCNULTY, who has taken a job with the TLC part of Discovery Communications. He’s now a Sr. Writer Producer. Cool. He’s no stranger to the drill at Discovery – he was there at Discovery Home before heading over to Knox where he wrote and produced for HGTV. He’s also been at WRC in DC as well. Congrats and Well Dunne! Jim.

When will it end? Boy, is this article ever depressing and even whiney when it comes to the future of advertising and what it could mean to our careers. Click here if you want.

Jan 10, 2009 by     Comments Off on     Posted under: Clyde Becker, Curtis Miles, Mitch Phillips

CLYDE BECKER is the choice for head creative at Belo’s ABC affiliate in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Just heard Mr. B is the pick to fill the long-open slot at WVEC TV, located on the water in Norfolk. Clyde will be trading the Rocky Mountains of Denver for the coastal waters of the Old Dominion. He had been at the FOX station in the Mile High City. Kudos and Well Dunne! to you Clyde.

Who was that good looking guy in the tux at the Governor’s Ball in Raleigh, NC? None other than CURTIS MILES, CSD at ABC’s WTVD. Yes, the same Curtis who just did jury duty. Talk about community service! The lovely lady on his arm was his wife, MEG.

Whose low sexy voice is that on the latest KTVT promo down in DFW? The one that reminds you of ISAAC HAYES? None other than Well Dunne! Talent’s MITCH PHILLIPS. Wahoo!
