Well Dunne! for June 18, 2009

Jun 18, 2009 by     Comments Off on Well Dunne! for June 18, 2009    Posted under: BDA, Beth Polish, Capital Records, Ed Green, Mitch Phillips, PROMAX, Russell Arons, Scarlett Jung, WBIE

Congrats to the BDA Winners! Well Dunne! Talent’s MITCH PHILLIPS, who was the announcer at the event, says it was a great show. Well Dunne! to one and all. Who won? Try this, it’s been hit or miss getting it to work, but this is the site.

Tonight is the PROMAX Awards show, and Well Dunne! Talent’s ED GREEN will be the man behind the mike. Yeah, it’s great fun for everybody. Ed’s voice is one you all might remember from the Lord of the Rings trailers. Cool.

BETH PO
LISH has been named director of Corporate Innovation for Hearst Corporation and senior vice president of Hearst Interactive Media. In this newly created position, Polish is developing and leading an employee innovation program focusing on inspiring Hearst’s nearly 20,000 employees, across more than 200 businesses, to develop their creative business ideas into profitable ventures with the support of the company. Polish has held senior management positions in media, finance, private investment and technology.

Coming on board at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) is RUSSELL ARONS, whose biz card will read SVP/Worldwide Marketing. She (yes, Russell is a lady…see the picture) comes over from Electronic Arts, the game company, where she handled marketing. At one time, she had another cool title: VP and GM of Barbie at Mattel. Well Dunne! Russell.

Well Dunne! for June 16, 2009

Jun 16, 2009 by     Comments Off on Well Dunne! for June 16, 2009    Posted under: 30 Rock, BDA, Grant Fenster, Judah Friedlander, Mitch Phillips, Molly Kelly, PROMAX, Quantel freelance, Weigel Broadcasting, WKOW

As PROMAX kicks off in NYC this morning, station-side creatives are hard at work in their own offices or, sadly, wondering what their next opportunity will be. Cut-backs have done just that, cut a wide swatch through the industry. The word “echo” was used to describe a Top 5 operation where so many have been jettisoned, it was shocking. OK, that said, let’s move on with an eye to the future and a note to be kind to each other. You meet the same people going up as you do going down.

If you ARE at PROMAX, check out MITCH PHILLIPS tonight when he and Judah Friedlander of NBC’s 30 Rock are all about the bda Awards. Mitch is Well Dunne! Talent.

MOLLY KELLY got a boot upstairs. The lovely Irish lass (with that name, how could she not be?) has been named Station Manager for WCIU, WWME and WMEU, the three Weigel Broadcasting stations in Chicago. Molly has been with the group as Director of Marketing and Promotions. Along the way, Molly has been at WOOD in Grand Rapids as well as WISN in Milwaukee. Congrats and Well Dunne! Miss Molly.

While we’re in that neck of America, over in Madison Wisconsin comes word that GRANT FENSTER has been writing and producing Topicals at WKOW, the ABC affil in the state capital of the Badger State. Yes, the one owned by Quincy Newspapers. Before transitioning to promos, Grant was producing the AM News show. Well Dunne!

Well Dunne! for June 15, 2009

Jun 15, 2009 by     Comments Off on Well Dunne! for June 15, 2009    Posted under: 99 Tigers, Astra Dorf, BDA, Bill Price, Bob Saget, Brett Karley, David Seeley, Ed Green, Glenn Lazzaro, Judah Friedlander, Marc Lucas, Mitch Phillips, PROMAX, Razorfish

Heading to PROMAX? I know I said I was, but things just didn’t work out. Nonetheless, you’ll have info and all kinds of updates here. The wonder of modern technology. If you ARE on hand in NYC, give the voices at the Awards shows an extra round of applause. Both are Well Dunne! Talents. Voicing along with emcee Judah Friedlander of 30 Rock at the BDA Show is MITCH PHILLIPS. He’s a doll and a New Yorker at heart. The PROMAX Award voice is ED GREEN, who will help emcee Bob Saget announce all the winners. You need Mitch and Ed, too, you know. Make that next project a ‘for the books” home run. Well Dunne! you two. So proud.

What do you do with 99 Tigers? You brand and promote with them, that’s what. 99 Tigers is the new entity of former Crossroads’ GLENN LAZZARO and DAVID SEELEY, who have formed their own company for on-air promotion, network marketing, and collaborative efforts with affinity agencies. Joining Lazzaro and Seeley at 99 Tigers are BRETT KARLEY, producer, and ASTRA DORF, who will continue to head up marketing for the group. Their recent clients include ABC, CBS, Bravo, Univision, Oxygen, MSG, iVillage, and the United Nations. Also working with the company will be L.A.-based director BILL PRICE. Well Dunne! Tigers.

MARC LUCAS jumps from group creative director to executive creative director at Razorfish. That’s him there on the right.

Wrangling creatives can be a lot like herding cats. But the NYT’s recent article about how to do it, via noted game designer Will Wright, is worth the read.

Well Dunne! for May 19, 2009

May 19, 2009 by     Comments Off on Well Dunne! for May 19, 2009    Posted under: ATAS, Lauren Melone, Madison Square Garden, MSG, PROMAX, PROMAXbda award finalists, virtual academy

Score a new job for LAUREN MELONE. Cheers are in order for her slot as VP of Public Relations at NYC’s Madison Square Garden. Lauren comes over from Playboy Enterprises, where she was VP of PR. Before that she was at director of media relations at GemStar-TV Guide International. Ms. Lauren holds a BA from Georgetown and a Masters in public communications from American Univ. Well Dunne! Lauren. Put Well Dunne! on your media list for updates on MSG.

Well Dunne! for May 6, 2009

May 6, 2009 by     Comments Off on Well Dunne! for May 6, 2009    Posted under: BDA, Bonnie Hammer, David Hershey, Jeff Shell, Judy McGrath, Phil Kraft, PROMAX, Rich Ross

Don’t you just love it when the kids make you proud? When PHIL KRAFT walks into CBS’s KTVT in Dallas/Ft. Worth June 1 to be part of CSD DAVID HERSHEY’s creative team, Phil will be bringing knowledge honed in some of the best newsrooms and creative shops in the biz. Once he was a news editor, banging out stories in a little windowless cubie at Belo’s WCNC in Charlotte. He wanted more (and he probably wanted a window) so he applied to creative services. Then his natural talents took over. He became a cracker jack Topical producer who honed his craft and upped the ante at DC’s WJLA, San Fran’s KPIX and Orlando’s WFTV. Phil calls Miami home, but his Pops lives in nearby San Antonio, so his new Texas life will be exciting. A huge Well Dunne! to him.

PROMAXbda is kicking off their NYC June powwow with a Media Leaders Summit panel discussion. They’ve lined up such bosses as BONNIE HAMMER, president of NBC Universal Cable, JUDY MCGRATH, chairman & CEO of MTV Networks, RICH ROSS, president of Disney Channels Worldwide, and JEFF SHELL, president of Comcast Programming. If you are on Twitter, you can keep up with all the details of the upcoming conference by clicking here.

Well Dunne! for May 4, 2009

May 4, 2009 by     Comments Off on Well Dunne! for May 4, 2009    Posted under: BDA, Bob Iger, Douglas Karabasz, Jonathan Verk, KPRC, PROMAX

Well Dunne! in the highest form to PROMAX/bda head JONATHAN VERK who placed 736th place in the Santa Monica Classic this weekend. He ran 8:59/mile and a finish of 55:44!

And another congrats goes to KPRC Art Director DOUGLAS KARABASZ’ wife, Shilpa, who picked up her well-earned Executive MBA from Michigan this weekend.

Speaking of KPRC (and I know this will sound like I’m picking on them, but they’re just the ones that exemplify it) have any of you listened to your phone systems? They, by and large, are HORRIBLE. You can’t get a person to help you find someone. Stations use their news talent, and bad scripts, to answer. One station even says “that’s the way we roll” OMG. Is the point NOT to talk with the public? Because that’s what it seems like. Heaven forbid I’d want to buy time. Dial yourself and tell me if that’s the image you want. Go on.

NBC is up and at ‘em for promoting the Fall, Read about it via TVWeek.

Finally, inspiration. ABC topper BOB IGER didn’t let a bad review get in the way of his success. The NYT’s profiles him.

Busy busy busy time at stations. Thank goodness there’s more hands to do all the work at Sinclair’s WSYX in Columbus, Ohio. On the job now is new Sr. Producer ERIC SNELL. He was with Sinclair before, so it was a family hire of sorts. Well Dunne! Eric!

What is the future of TV? Business Week takes a look.

Sure I like CSI. The one set in Vegas. But it was a bit of a surprise to find it was SO popular. Read about it here.

For those headed to PROMAX in NYC this June, Fodor’s was kind enough to come up with 10 very cool, very fun and very FREE things to do in The Big Apple. Click here

For those of you who are now in control of ALL the media outlets and need help keeping things straight, like who ways what about you, DNA13 might be the right move for you. Check out Spring ’09, dna13’s on-demand software for real-time reputation management. Yeah, that’s what they’re calling it now…reputation management.

Don’t forget to check out the new talent additions at Well Dunne! Talent site. Great pipes, great prices and honest folks. How refreshing!

The one and only OPRAH, who btw was a huge hit at the Women in Entertainment luncheon last week in LA and is much taller than one would imagine, is on the hunt for a writer producer for promos. Sounds like a great slot for the right person. Get details by contacting me or go to the PROMAX job board.

Time to get serious and look at the NYT’s take on the Tribune Co’s financial problems. The “B” word is being tossed about – bankruptcy. Click here.

Choose to be a transformer of negativity by lifting up your heart space, clearing your negative emotions and grasping the star of intuitive awareness. Today marks the beginning of the PROMAX award period. Lots of changes in this years categories, like the ability to upload your entry instead of send it via land-based delivery system. That is a GREAT change. Good luck on all the amazing work that’s going to be entered. PROMAX’s 54th annual get together is set for June 17-19 in NYC. For details about the awards, better check it out yourself at www.promaxbda.tv/awards_pro08.asp
