Well Dunne! for April 16, 2009

Had the most wonderful conversation with the brand new writer producer for Madison, Wisconsin’s WKOW. MICHELLE ANDRIANO is thrilled to be part of the creative team at the Quincy Newspaper’s ABC affiliate in the Wisconsin capital. She’s a Chicago area girl, calling Dundee, IL home. After she did an internship at Chicago’s WGN TV, she nabbed a job as associate writer producer at FOX affil WXIN in Indianapolis. Hmm, another capital city. Michelle hit Madison at the same time as spring, so it should be a beautiful time for her. Well Dunne! Michelle. Keep in touch and let me know when that email of yours finally gets fixed!

A belated birthday to STAN MELTON, JR who blew out the candles of his cake earlier this week. Check out his new Brown Bag creative endeavor by clicking here.

Folks riding the city busses in the Triangle of North Carolina (that means Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill) can now get their news via WRAL. Read about it here.

Looking for a new voice for your next project? Or thinking of changing voices for your station? Then you need to pick one of the Well Dunne! Talents. Yeah, they’re THAT good!

One of the best guys in the biz is heading to Southeast Asia. It’s not a permanent move for STAN MELTON JR – he’s going to Viet Nam to give a talk to the Vietnam Television’s Annual TV Conference. He’ll be talking about TV marketing and branding, graphics production, etc. He’s the perfect candidate to handle the topic! Stan will be there a few days (and if the clock permits, might get in a bit of scuba diving) and then be back to the DC area, where he and the family are based. Can’t wait to see what company shows their brilliance by hiring him for a top creative job. Well Dunne! Stan!

Stan, btw, got the nod to talk form a Linked In connection. LI is the best…and the best way to get hold of me. Sign up now and then you’ll be able to share information for Well Dunne! without a lot of spam or problem.

The NYTimes take on the CNN buzz following the Anderson Cooper – Kathy Griffin exchange. What is it they say? Any publicity is better than no publicity?

Get ‘em while they’re hot. 3D glasses for this year’s SuperBowl preview of the Dreamworks film Monster vs. Aliens. It’s a co-promotion with Pepsi/So-Be Water and, according to the AP Report; they’re going to be giving out the glasses at grocery stores, electronics stores…everywhere. Cool.

Entertainment Weekly says that SCRUBS’ creator Bill Lawrence is a huge fan of promos, especially for his show. Check it out.

Think About This: “Be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. Talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. Make all your friends feel there is something in them. Look at the sunny side of everything. Think only of the best, work only for the best, and expect only the best. Be as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your won. Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. Give everyone a smile. Spend so much time improving yourself that you have no time left to criticize others. Be too big for worry and too noble for anger.” ~ Christian D. Larsona

DC and Balto are kinda close in proximity. 40 miles per Yahoo maps. Making the switch from Balto to DC is DOMINIQUE VERDIEU, who has taken a writer producer slot with the wonderful and talented CSD STAN MELTON JR at WJLA, the ABC Allbritton in the nation’s capital. She had been writing and producing promos at Hearst’s WBAL in Baltimore. Originally from Boston, where she grabbed her diploma from Boston College, Dominique has spent time in front of the camera, in the anchor chair and reporting, across the south. Now she’s doing those great promos you see. Well Dunne! Dominique!

Bravo to the Big 3 Nets who are banding together to fight cancer. Standup2cancer.org is their website, and I encourage one and all to click and see how we can all be of service. ABC, CBS and NBC are ‘getting it’ and it’s such a good thing. The list of people in this business who haven’t won their cancer battles is long, and getting longer. So let’s jump on board and make a difference. BTW, St. Louis TV did the exact same thing – band together and put top talent from ALL the stations there – for the United Way campaign. Bravo Arch City media for leading the way.

Washington DC and Baltimore MD are as close as Beverly Hills and Thousand Oaks…roughly 40 miles. But on the east coast, it’s an entirely different TV market. Making the 40-mile switch is ANDREA LAIGN, who will be returning to Balimur (as the natives say) to rejoin family and college friends when she takes the Writer Producer slot at Heart’s NBC affil WBAL in Charm City. Andrea went to college in Maryland and is looking forward to both the bright new parts of Baltimore, which she says hasn’t eliminated the historical old feel to the city by the bay, in this case Chesapeake. She hates saying goodbye to the folks at ABC affil WJLA in DC like her boss CSD STAN MELTON, JR, but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Her last day in DC will be Feb 10. Yes, even though it’s only 40 miles, she’ll be moving up I-95 and not commuting. Actually, she’s looking forward to buying a house. Once in Baltimore, she’ll be working under CSD JONATHAN KILLIAN. Well Dunne! Andrea! This is great new for you.

For those of you who are keeping track, this marks the 300th WellDunne blog. And it marks the 4th year I’ve been keeping track of ya’ll’s comings and goings, beginning with Graeme Newell’s Marketing IdeaNet. Now I’m even able to include you in the Fates & Fortunes area of BROADCASTING & CABLE’s online site as well. Thanks for your input and don’t be a stranger!

Break out the sunglasses and chalk one up for love. PHIL KRAFT, who I discovered in the newsroom in Charlotte, is the new Sr. Writer Producer for Marketing at COX’s market-leading ABC affil WFTV in Orlando, FL. He’ll be leaving the fine folks at CBS’s KPIX in the Bay Area to make the move across country. The reason? Love. His wife TANYA has a fab new gig in the Sunshine state. She’s a traffic engineer, and the two relative newlyweds have been on opposite coasts for quite some time now. You can imagine the fun in that…not. SO, Mr. Phil pitched for the job and CSD BOB ST. CHARLES agreed it was a great fit. Phil has been promoing at ABC affil WJLA for CSD STAN MELTON JR, too. Don’t you just love it when the kids grow up and do well? Well Dunne! Phil. See you soon!

I love the way The Sportsman Channel wrote about the new job given to JENNIFER GNAS. TSC said she was elevated. Isn’t that a great way to say promoted? She’s now … Senior Coordinator/Public Relations and Event Planning. Also at the channel which focuses on ‘all hunting, all fishing all the time’ comes word of another elevation. TRACY MARTIN is now Coordinator/Affiliate Marketing. Well Dunne! ladies!

Stephen Arnold Music has news. There’s a new release of their Box Of Rocks tunes. All kinds of music for politics, drama and sports. Doesn’t that sum up what 2008 will bring? Sure does. For more info, go to Stephen’s site by clicking here.

Expanding their marketing department (don’t you LOVE to hear those words!) is WE tv. The Big Apple based cable net has hired NYU Masters holder JENNIFER KRANZ as vice president of advertising and branding. Jennifer comes from Lifetime and has also worked at NBCU’s SciFi Channel and USA Network. But wait – there’s more. Former Hallmark Channel VP of Ad Sales JENNIFER MCGUIGAN is WE tv’s new vice president of trade marketing. She’s a Middlebury grad. And completing the hat trick is Franklin & Marshall’s KEREN UNRAD who comes over from Oxygen. Way to go and Well Dunne!

No dummies they. Read about how smart the marketing folks are at the online nets. You know, back in ’88, the strike took eyeballs from TV sets and put them on cable nets. Now, I predict, the strike will put eyeballs online, which is what the strike is all about. Click here. And thanks to TVWeek.
