While a great many of you huddle round your computers for the warmth they emit…the folks in SoCal are toasting to record high type temps. Doesn’t seem fair, does it? (That was directed to the folks in Chicago, etc). The Hot News is from LA, where today’s forecast calls for a high of 83. Tribune’s KTLA has promoted JOHN MOCZULSKI to vice President/Station Manager from VP Programming and Marketing. He’s in his new slot even as you read this. He got on board KTLA in June ’08. John’s background includes such call letters as KNBC and KABC in LA, KGO in San Francisco and he even was a managing partner in a company called Barking Sheep Communications. He gets an A for that name alone. Well Dunne! John.

Are you Linked In? Of course you are…best networking site on the web and the best way to get info to Well Dunne! With NATPE on the horizon, there are a lot of people with new ventures. Tell us about them, peeps. Cliek here and then spill.

Yeah, mercury is in retrograde and everything is moving at a glacier pace. You are not alone.

The one and only OPRAH, who btw was a huge hit at the Women in Entertainment luncheon last week in LA and is much taller than one would imagine, is on the hunt for a writer producer for promos. Sounds like a great slot for the right person. Get details by contacting me or go to the PROMAX job board.

Time to get serious and look at the NYT’s take on the Tribune Co’s financial problems. The “B” word is being tossed about – bankruptcy. Click here.

Think About This: “During times of stress and difficulty, what are you doing to maximize your potential for peaceful living in this world? It is your own energy field that will make a difference. You decide for yourself whether you experience the dynamic, transformative power of peace or a just the muddled energy of conflicted emotion. Choose peace! Choose to be a transformer of negativity by lifting up your heart space, clearing your negative emotions and grasping the star of intuitive awareness. You are an energy field—full of life and peace!” ~ Greg Barrette

Taking the reigns and Vice President of Promotion for Chicago-based Tribune Broadcasting is Louisville, KY’s own TIM DUKES. He’ll be focusing on on-air and national promotions for the stations and interactive side of the ‘new’ Tribune. That’s the pix he sent of himself on the right. Tim comes from the wide-open world of radio, doing on-air and management duties in such locales as Tampa, Cincy, San Diego, Atlanta and Chicago. He’s even worked at the button-downed Wachovia! Tim’s release is fun and does indeed cut through the PR clutter. Always a good thing for a promo type. Well Dunne!

Media Post has set August 8 (same day as the Olympics kick off on NBC) as the deadline for entering the Creative Media Awards contest. Click here for all the scoop.

Today, we set our sites on Seattle, home of Starbucks and their FREE COFFEE today! Wahoo. I find all work goes better with a grande nonfat vanilla latte with whip in hand. Seattle has news and it’s all coming from the Tribune stations in the Great Northwest.

JIM CROWNOVER has been named Creative Services Director for Tribune Broadcasting’s Northwest Regional Operating Center, which includes television stations KCPQ-TV/KMYQ-TV in Seattle and KRCW-TV in Portland. Jim climbs up the ladder from his old title, Creative Services Manager, a position he has held for the past three years. Previously, he had served as Creative Services Director at KUWB-TV in Salt Lake City as well as Public Affairs Director and Creative Services producer at KATU-TV in Portland, Ore. A northwest native, Crownover received a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communication from Oregon State University. And this is really cool. His GM and boss, PAM PEARSON, has a promo background honed in Chicago. Well Dunne!

The vacancy comes from the departure of JAMIE MCDOWELL, who is leaving local TV. After 5 years of planning, she’s starting Pounce HD Productions, specializing in marketing and digital production services. Wonderful news! She’ll be keeping in touch, and if you need to get hold of her, just let me know. Well Dunne! Jamie.

Come to think about it, let me know about what’s going on in your life, career, or just to chat it up a bit. Movers at 602communications dot com will find it’s way to my Inbox, or perhaps my Bulk Mail. I’ve been having problems, so be patient.

Think About This: “The Sanskrit word ‘ahimsa’ does not contain a negative or passive connotation as does the English translation ‘nonviolence.’ The implication of ‘ahimsa’ is that when all violence subsides in the human heart, the state which remains is love. It is not something that we have to acquire; it is always present, and needs only to be uncovered. This is our real nature, not merely to love one person here, another there, but to be love itself….love in action.” ~ Eknath Easwaran
