Let’s play a “where is he going” game. He ‘he’ in question is TONY REED, just now departing his slot as Promotion Manager at Hearst’s NBC affil in Orlando, WESH. The moving van comes early next week and he’ll be taking the Marketing Director position at…this is where we play the game. It’s a Midwest market. It’s larger than a bread box and largerer than Nielsen’s #42 market. It’s a FOX affiliate. It’s owned by a wonderful ownership group. The city where he’s going has the nickname Porkopolis (I am not making that up). The city in question does odd things with chile but has the best ice cream in the country (based on several foodie recommendations). Anybody guess Cincinatti? Yes, Tony is going to Cincinnati where he’ll be wrangling the marketing for Raycom’s WXIX come April 10. Tony is a super guy…a passionate animal lover as well as a vegan, he has worked with Hearst in Albuquerque at KOAT (where he was CSD) and in Portland Maine for WGME and WMTW. Best thing is his sheepskin from University of Missouri in Columbia in Journalism. MissouRAH! Well Dunne! Tony.

From one end of the Mississippi River to the other, that’s the path taken by one MATT DE KEYSER, a native of Waukesha, Wisconsin to be precise. OK, so it’s not exactly the source of the mighty Missisip (which is Lake Itaska in neighboring Minnesota) but it’s close enough for today’s post. After Matt spent time and kept warm making awesome graphics and animations for Weigel Broadcasting in Milwaukee, including CBS affil WDJT TV 58, he floated down the most awesome river in the US and is now happily enscounced in that most unique of cities, New Orleans. He’s the new Production Manager/Design Director at Hearst’s NBC affil in Nawlins, working under CSD BILLY PILGRIM, who told us “Matt has already had his first taste of crayfish since arriving; and says he is really looking forward to enjoying the music and culture of the crescent city. “ Well Dunne! Matt.

BILLY PILGRIM is one of those names that one would expect to find in a novel assigned by an English literature class. It’s just that memorable and fun. The real Billy is the Creative Services Director for Hearst’s WDSU in New Orleans, the setting for many books assigned by English classes. He sent the following news – Our own ETHAN EDWARDS, Night-side Topical and Image Producer, has been promoted to Ass’t CSD at our sister station, KOAT-TV in Albuquerque, New Mexico. That opens p a choice spot here at WDSU. Below is the official job description.

Enthusiasm is such a powerful state of mind and behavior. I hear that enthusiasm is running over in the new writer producer at CBS’ KOVR in Cali Capital Sacramento. Coming onboard the creative team headed by CSD DREW FOWLER is SHAD SELBY (great name btw) who is making the transition from an ad agency environment to the station-side. Shad, who hates to admit it but his first name is the name of a fish, hails from Pasadena, Santa Barbara and Lake Tahoe. Three fave locales. He was Creative Director at Astone/Crocker/Flanagan and was producer and director for all the TV and radio spots at the Sacto agency. He’s in good hands…when I talked with him, he was getting writing tips from Promotion Manager DON SMITH. Great station you have there, Shad. Well Dunne!
Hurray for JOHN MILLER of NBC and his new slot. Read about what the NYTimes has to say about it all. Well Dunne! Well Dunne!
Oops…for quite some time now, I’ve listed a CSD open slot at WDSU down in New Orleans. Not true. And it was definitely not what the REAL CSD wanted to see at all. No kidding. Our most sincere apologies to BILLY PILGRIM, who is heading the creative efforts at Hearst-owned NBC affil in the Crescent City. Seems the confusion stemmed from a old web page listing the opening, and WD!TB checks open jobs via the web. Billy, I’ll buy the Hurricane next time I’m in town.
Happy belated birthday to WTVD’s CURTIS MILES! You never look any older. How do you do that?

Despite all the troubles Louisiana has been dealing with, there’s cause to celebrate down New Orleans way over the upcoming July 4th weekend. BILLY PILGRIM has just been promoted to Creative Services Director at the Hearst owned NBC affiliate, WDSU. Billy has been Promotion Manager there and now has the title and bigger office to go along with the creative work he’s been doing. Besides having a first class name, Mr. P has also worked in Montgomery, AL. Well Dunne! Billy. Enjoy every moment.
What are they going to do about the now-vacant Promo Manager job in the Crescent City? Fill it. So those who are interested…start your engines.
From the bayou to the desert…word from NBC affil KVOA Tucsan is that CSD ANDREW CALIENDO has hired not one but two writer producer types. Trading the lovely Atlanta seacoast for a dryer saguaro cactus clime is HEIDI OSGOOD, coming from Sinclair’s CBS affil WGME in Portland, Maine. JEREMY HEATH is coming over from FOX affil KLRT in Little Rock. Great team, Andrew! Well Dunne! to Heidi and Jeremy.
July 3 is SHORTY BACON’s birthday. July 4th is UNCLE SAM’s birthday. This summer is flying by too quickly, so don’t look for another posting until mid next week. Everybody take some time and enjoy. I suggest one rediscover the joys of lightening bugs.
