There are days when things go as planned, and then there are days when one wonders if the universe is so out of sorts, it might be The End. That being said, let’s also add that, once a car runs out of gas, it isn’t really easy to steer well. Same with mental acuity…after a day of heavy mental lifting, is there really any point in forcing the brain to perform?  As happened yesterday, a late night brain fog can really muck things up. No smarty pants, alcohol was not involved. Soon- to-be Tucson resident GENE ROBINSON is leaving Phoenix TV, the Meredith station KPHO. Had the wrong station yesterday, so there you are. Still sending Well Dunne! to Gene.

Speaking of Phoenix, one of the best Art Directors around is CHRIS AYERS, who is doing the creative thing for Right This Minute, the syndicated show out of Magic Dust TV – in Phoenix. He has a very cool podcast, On the Grid . For Phoenix  peeps.

Not so gentle reminder that Well Dunne! Talent handles the best voice talent for any and all projects. Why the best? Because nobody else who places voices has ever produced a promo, trailer, interstitial, show or resulting awards. Yeah. So these voices are producer-picked. So what are you waiting for?

Think About This"The outer path we take is public knowledge, but the path with heart is an inner one. The two come together when who we are that is seen in the world coincides with who we deeply are. As we grow wiser, we become aware that the important forks in the road are usually not about choices that will show up on any public record; they are decisions and struggles to do with choosing love or fear; anger or forgiveness; pride or humility. They are soul-shaping choices."  ~  Jean Shinoda Bolen

Distance can be nothing or everything, depending on your viewpoint. When you want to be in a place you love, distance is not your friend. And when you have a chance to return to a place that holds a spot in your heart, for whatever reason, it seems like kismet. University of Maine grad DAVE RAWSON is heading north on I-95, eliminating 150 plus miles between Providence and Portland, Rhode Island and Maine respectively. Dave’s been named the new CSD at WGME, Sinclair’s CBS affiliate in Maine’s largest city. He’s been at NBC affiliate WJAR in Providence heading up creative. Before that, he headed up marketing at News 10 in Albany and then hopped over to the gorgeous Burlington, VT market at WFFF’s tri-operation. Portland is one of those fab markets that has more to do than you would imagine. And btw, Dave is looking forward to cornering the lobster roll market, so you might want to order yours now before he makes them hard to find! Travel north safely, Dave, and Well Dunne!  See you in the summer.

ERIK SNELL is a Sinclair man – they keep promoting him. The Detroit native is now heading the creative team at Sinclair’s WGME in Portland, Maine (an absolutely gorgeous little city) having made the transition from Columbus, Ohio where he was On-Air Promotions Supervisor for Sinclair’s ABC/Fox combo. The Cedarville Univsersity grad began his TV career at Time Warner Cable where he produced commercials. He also was a producer at Dayton’s WKEF/WRGT duop and was Promotion Manager for WICD in Champaign, IL. Time to break out the champagne with a Well Dunne! to Erik.

Once CHRIS AYERS found himself in the Arizona sun, he didn’t want to leave. Who would? Now, Chris has a new job that allows him to stay in Phoenix, stay in the sun, and still do TV Art, which he does ever so wonderfully. Mr. Ayers is departing his current slot at Meredith’s CBS affil in the Valley of the Sun (there’s that sun reference again) at KPHO where he was Multimedia Art Director. Well, until he leaves in a few weeks, he still IS the Multimedia Art Director. Where’s he going? His new job is Right This Minute Art Director for the good folks at MagicDust Television, headed by the much respected and beloved former KTVK News Director BILL MILLER. In Phoenix. Chris is a major favorite of Well Dunne!, having begun his TV Art journey at NBC affil WCNC in Charlotte where my Art Director DOUGLAS KARABASZ brought young Chris into the fold while he was still a student at nearby Winthrop University. From there, he jumped to the FOX operation in The Queen City before going off to WBBM in Chicago, where he did graphic design. A huge Well Dunne! to Chris Ayers!

That huge dust storm that hit Phoenix on Monday…was that just a natural celebration for TIM MCSPADDEN? Yes – no?  No matter…Tim has reason to celebrate – he has a new slot as Creative Services Director of KPHO, Meredith’s CBS in Arizona’s capital. Tim has a fascinating background in TV marketing and TV production. The Cal State Long Beach grad worked for Bernie Brillstein’s company at one time and for several prodco’s who had sitcoms on networks. Tim got into TV promo and found himself Sr. Promo Writer Producer at KPNX, NBC in Phoenix. Next stop was as Assistant Creative Services Director of WABC in NYC. After running a creative service for stations in between CSD’s, Tim began production on Love A La Carte, his feature film. It’s in post right now. Can’t wait to see it. Perhaps Tim’s Art Director at KPHO, CHRIS AYERS,  will show it as part of his backyard cinema series, weather and dust permitting of course. Well Dunne! Tim. Great news.

Bravo to FRANCES BERWICK who was bumped to President Bravo and Style Media.  Ms. Frances gets to, with a straight face, look people in the eye and say “I’m president of Style”…isn’t that fun! Well Dunne! Frances.

Job Alert – WFTS in Tampa is on the hunt for a Promo Producer. CSD DENNIS ELSBURY would be the man to impress.

Stand up to Cancer! That’s the headline today and a reminder of the importance of the show and it’s focus tonight. No excuses for missing it, since it will be on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Discovery Health, E!, G4, HBO, HBO Latino, MLB Network, Showtime, The Style Network and TV One and over 30 online streaming partners like AOL, Yahoo! and YouTube. 8 E & P/ 7 C. Well Dunne! to all the brilliant management behind the decision to air.

The highway between Phoenix and Tucson is well traveled. The 116 mile trip seems further than it sounds (think traffic and mountains) but ANDREW CALIENDO will not only be taking it when he wants, not because he has to. Andrew has taken the Promotion Manager slot at CBS affil KPHO in Phoenix. He’s going to be working with CSD MATT HYATT and my favorite Art Director CHRIS AYERS. Andrew’s been down wrangling the creative at KVOA, the NBC affiliate in Tucson. The Phoenix slot will be like old home week for Mr. C…he once worked there writing and producing. Well Dunne! Andrew.

Get a lot of rest this weekend. Monday will be the start of the new season, what with Martha Stewart unpacking for her new slot at  Hallmark Channel (I wish Martha would help me move…I bet she never  breaks anything and isn’t one of those people who ends up with boxes that never get opened) and Oprah kicking off her last season. There’s tons more, of course, so grab your vitamins and realize now is indeed the time to rationalize buying that 72 inch hi-def.
