Hearst hit the jackpot when they hired JAY CHALMERS as the Assistant Creative Services Director for their ABC affil in Palm Beach, WPBF. CSD HEATH MYRICK has hired a real go-getter creative … hip hip hurray! Clay is a Gainesville Florida native who went to Florida State, which means he was playing both sides of the football field, Florida collegiate style. Gators and Seminoles…very dicey subject. After FSU, he then went to the esteemed Savannah College of Art and Design earning a Masters in Film and Television Production. He’s worked as a producer, first doing commercials in Gainesville at WCJB then up to Jacksonville doing promo for First Coast News (WTLV/WJXX) then to Orlando’s FOX WOFL for CSD CHRIS FRIEDRICHS (hi Chris!)…all the while thinking that experiencing different seasons might be fun, as opposed to nonstop sunshine and palm trees. Nah… Jay’s hitting the Palm Beaches just in time for ‘The Season’, dahling. Amazing people-watching along Worth Avenue. So glad to hear about such a happy move, which means he’s still close to family and his wife is happy. Can’t beat that. Well Dunne! Jay.

CHRIS FRIEDRICHS got an early Christmas present. Chris is the VP of Creative at Fox in Orlando and he’s found a super writer producer, which was what he wanted. Let him tell you about the new addition: Please join me in welcoming JAY CHALMERS to FOX 35’s Creative Services Department as writer/producer. Jay comes to us most recently from Jacksonville, FL where he worked as a promotion writer/producer at Gannett’s First Coast News duopoly (NBC/ABC). Jay is a Florida State University graduate and studied extensively at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design). He began his television career in Gainesville, FL. Jay brings a wealth experience in broadcast marketing, news and numerous design disciplines. He will be a great asset to our department and to FOX 35. His first day will be Monday, December 8th. BRIAN ZIETH is one of those guys who makes one believe in The Dream. And hard work, but that goes without saying. Wisconsin native Brian, who lives and breathes Green Bay Packers, decided that when he got his diploma in Broadcast Communications (from University of Wisconsin – Green Bay of course) he would decamp the cold and find a slot in Florida. So he took a paid Internship at Orlando’s WOFL and worked his way up the ladder. He ran studio cam, coordinated promotions and ended up as Sr. Writer Producer for my fave CSD CHRIS FRIEDRICHS. Brian credits Chris with teaching him all the in’s and out’s, and now Mr. Z is working as a promo producer for original programs at The Golf Channel. He misses the good folks at WOFL, but he now doesn’t have to commute on I-4, which is a job perk. A great big Well Dunne! to Brian.

Living the Aloha life is KELLY DONNELL, who will probably not miss the snowy Portland, Maine winters he experienced while heading up the creative team at WGME. Not that Portland isn’t a very cool spot – it is. It’s just that comparing Honolulu and Portland is a tad bit unfair. Kelly is now in the islands, under the palms, not all that far from Waikiki. Ahhhh – paradise. He’s taken the reigns at Raycom’s duop, KGMB/CBS and KHNL/NBC, which is what the islanders call Hawaii News Now. Kelly has his degree from University of Florida and has worked in some amazing markets, like New Orleans, Seattle, Philly and Chicago. Mahalo for the picture, Kelly and a big Well Dunne! to you.

Write, produce and edit promos, including daily topicals, station and news image spots, POP’s, network prime, and program spots for the FOX Triopoly in Central Florida. Must have a proven track record of producing conversational yet compelling promotional spots that take a different approach, connect emotionally with viewers and give clear reasons to tune-in. Requires top-notch writing skills and a desire to win every day. Good understanding of how to sell news stories and station programming to target demographics. Must have the ability to execute distinct aand ways to increase traffic. Flexibility and ability to meet tight deadlines is a key. Ability to work flexible hours and shifts, including weekends and holidays is required. A minimum of two years television promotion experience, a degree in communications or related field, a good understanding of graphics and visual effects along with proficiency with Microsoft Office, basic non-linear editing skills and AVSTAR news computer knowledge is preferred. AVID Adrenaline and After Effects experience is a plus.

Well Dunne! to the Post-Newsweek chain of stations. They’re offering free airtime to candidates, which is really a huge step forward in the election reform process. The Belo-owned stations have done modified free time in the past and should be commended as well. Who’s going to be next?

Well, so stupid that the wonderfully conceived and executed Coke campaign to save the polar bear, with white Coke cans, has been scuttled. Seems the public thought it ‘too confusing’ and even went as far as to say that Coke in the white can didn’t taste the same as Coke in the red can. Same Coke. There must be something magical in the water cooler down at WOFL in Orlando. Having just bid adieu to JEREMY CLAYPOOL who was headed to KNBC in LA, they are again losing another talent to the LA market. This time, ROBERT RODRIGUEZ is making the move west down I-10 to work at LA’s FOX flagship, KTTV and KCOP. Title – Promotions Manager. Robert is leaving behind fave VP Creative Service CHRIS FRIEDRICHS and his WOFL Promotion Manager title. Robert is going to work with his past boss JIM LADAS, who directed the creative efforts at FOX in DC. With a degree from Florida Atlantic U, Robert started his TV career at WSVN in his hometown of Miami where his boss was….Jim Ladas. So obviously these two make beautiful promos together. First day on the job in LA will be November 7. Safe travels Robert and Well Dunne!

PAUL HELLEBUSCH is a St. Louis guy who is one amazing artist. With a wicked sense of humor to boot. After one particularly nasty ice storm in St. Louis back in the late 90’s, when he was Art Director at KDNL in St. Louis, Paul jumped at the chance to live in balmy Tampa, FL and took the job of Design Director at WFLA. Well, now Mr. H has been given a big ol’ promotion and was sounding very upbeat about this turn of events. What does Paul’s new business card read? Marketing, Creative and Graphics Director for Florida Communications Group, which is WFLA TV, The Tampa Tribune and their impressive online sites. All Media General. This deserves a very special Well Dunne! Paul.

Headed west on the 10, coast to coast, is JEREMY CLAYPOOL, the new promo writer producer at KNBC in beautiful downtown Burbank. Mr. C is going to be working with the uber-talented TIM HOWICK who heads up the creative efforts of the Peacock in LA. Jeremy has a lot to do before he begins September 26, like move, go on a cruise, visit the fam, and buy a new car. Of course, the drive is going to be great, with stops planned in New Orleans, Phoenix and who knows where else. Fun! Jeremy is taking leave of his current slot at FOX’s WOFL in Orlando and hates to say goodbye to his boss, CHRIS FRIEDRICHS. But LA is calling. The ones in question are made from, and I am not making this up, Bernie Madoff’s pants. The Ponzi Prince had all his clothes sold and, well, now they’re iPad covers. And they’re not cheap. At least none of the proceeds are going to that crook.

Two..two…two mints in one. Remember that old line from a commercial for Certs? Do they even still MAKE Certs? Well, two is the code for the creative team at Orlando’s FOX triopoly – WOFL, WRBW and WOGX. Two separate but equal Promotion Managers are onboard. ROBERT RODRIGUEZ moves down from DC where he was part of JIM LADAS’ department at FOX’s WTTG. Robert and Jim worked together at WSVN in Miami at one time and obviously they got along swimmingly. Now Robert is closer to family and assured that he will never need a snow shovel. Well Dunne! Robert.
Joining Robert as a Promotion Managetr is JOHN LOPEZ, who didn’t have to pack moving boxes. John is a California guy, hailing from Fresno, who was most recently Promo Manager at Cox’s WFTV/WRDQ in O-town. The BYU grad has worked in the Salt Lake market as well as Seattle’s powerhouse KING. On the complete other side of the US, KIM HATAMIYA has been promoted at Sony Pictures Television. That’s in Culver City. She’s now EVP/Marketing and has a whole lot of duties for a whole lot of entertainment. Kim has worked at Fox Kids Worldwide. Well Dunne! Kim.
Another new title bestowed is for ALLISON HOFFMAN who is already working as the VP of Creative and Brand Strategy for AMC. Her old title was Director/Consumer Marketing. She’s worked as Director of Marketing for Rainbow Media, all in New York City. Well Dunne!
