Overcoming adversity; life’s basic premise. To quote the beloved WINSTON CHURCHILL, the secret of life is to be knocked down 12 times but to get up 13. We are asked to overcome adversity daily – hourly – and whether we need to tackle an immeasurable need or just deal with a minor annoyance, we’re always forging ahead, finding ways to cope and overcome and head into the future. As the days unfold, many of us are learning that friends, family, good thoughts and kind deeds make a difference. They strengthen us in ways that enable us to keep going. With this in mind, let’s send Well Dunne! Talent’s CHUCK MATTHEWS our best thoughts and healing wishes as he overcomes a health challenge that isn’t going to get him down. As a matter of fact, he sounds fabulous (you should agree) and being a voice pro, that’s quite at the top of the list. Everyday, Chuck, you’re getting tons of Well Dunne! wishes.

Any of you love the Cooking Channel? I see hands going up. Yeah, love it too. Well the new look for them is courtesy of Elevation, the Atlanta and Buenos Aires based graphics firm. Give them a star or two (Michelin stars?) for the fab look they – wait for it – cooked up. Well Dunne!

Love it when the marketing folks get the nod to run the whole show. Well Dunne! goes out to MICHAEL SMITH, just named head of the new Cooking Channel. Official title is General Manager. Scripps is converting the Fine Living Network (FLN) to the Cooking Channel and is shifting Michael over from The Food Network, where he has been Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Creative Services. Before his 10+ years at Food Network, Michael was with Disney and CBS Network. He’s one smart guy – holds two sheepskins: undergrad in biz from Stanford and an MBA from Berkeley. Impressive. Glad to see such a great guy move upward! Let’s hear it for him one more time – Well Dunne! Michael.

That means his slot at Food will be open.

Condolences to GREG RANDO, #2 Creative at FOX’s KTVU in Oakland, on the sudden death of his mother. Thoughts and prayers to you, Greg.

Print this out and then send it to your GM and News Director. Watch the improvement in your branding efforts happen immediately.

Forget balloon boy, all you Halloween costume seekers. Why not dress like Billy Mays?
