Sales and Marketing are like, as Forrest Gump might have said, peas and carrots. They just go together. So when a promo pro actually puts the word ‘sales’ into their title, it’s a move that will lead to success with a flourish. Down Austin way, DANI DUDEK has taken a sales gig and will be using her effervescent personality combined with her marketing know-how for Viamedia. A lover of the Texas capital, Dani writes a blog about the entertainment scene called ATXGOSSIP.com  Yes, check it out. She writes like a charm. The Winthrop grad got her first TV job in Charlotte at WBTV then handled news promotion for WCCB, the then-FOX affil. She’s handled promo for WAGA in Atlanta and was Promo Manager for KTBC in Austin. She loved LA and working for Fox Broadcasting in Affiliate Relations but missed the station-side excitement and took the Marketing Director slot at WCSC in Charleston. Now she’ll tie it all together in her favorite city. Excellent. Well Dunne! Dani.

Would one of you wonderfully talented and creative people please come up with a new word other than blog. The word itself sounds as if there’s a digestive problem happening…not good. But while we’re on the subject, there’s some very nice postings (anybody want to vote for that?) being done by creatives…worthy our time to check out. KEVIN KOLBE, who is CSD at Capital Broadcasting’s WRAZ in Raleigh, has expanded his KevinKolbe.com site to Facebook. And it’s very uplifting. We need uplifting. about faith, family and fun. Kevin says he hopes to inspire, challenge, motivate and share. Check it out. DON SMITH, now heading up KENS creative down San Antonio way, has long been posting with his http://idopromoz.blogspot.com and it’s terrific. All about, the name says it all…promos. Effervescent DANI DUDEK, creative wrangler of Charleston’s WSCS, has a blast with her blog ATXGOSSIP.COM, which chronicles the celeb and pop culture scene…lots of lists and Ms. Dani says ‘a side of snark’. Of course, it’s also Facebookable. Promo Cowboy and amazingly talented BARRY FITZSIMMONS has taken the blog to a more media-heightened plane with his podcast, which grew out of his wordpress blog of the same name. It’s great…interviews with some industry folks. Blatant self promotion time…download the conversation the two of us had. Go on…find out why you should not spit in your wastebasket. It’s not just a good manners thing. Anybody else have a blog (that word…augh) they want to share?

Better hurry up and book for your Topical Bootcamp…I mean, only if you want more eyeballs on your newscasts. SYDNEY RUBIN is in charge of details. Topicals aren’t born.,.they’re trained!

One of the best things local television can do is be part of their community; spotlighting outreach programs to help when needed, highlighting outstanding actions and people via recognition, trying to make sense when tragedy strikes as well as bringing comfort. Down in Charleston, after the murders that made the world shake its head in dismay, Raycom’s WCSC stepped up and produced a series of image spots reinforcing the city’s strength in never allowing a tragedy to define the good people of The Palmetto City. CSD DANI DUDEK wrangled her producers, KRISTIN LEE, SAMANTHA HIGGINS and MAC FAIL along with her Graphics talents DEMONTRE PARISH and STEVE RADFORD. The CBS affiliate used on-air and social media, focusing on the strengths of Charleston’s people coming together. Click here to see them and check out social’s hashtag #standwithcharleston. Well Dunne! everybody. Thanks Dani.

PROMAXers…have you checked out that guitar at Stephen Arnold Music’s suite? Really? Well do it! Signed by Les Paul, it can be yours if you sign up. Winner will be chosen Thursday (today if you’re reading this via your email) so don’t miss out. And check out the Guitar Legends while you’re there. Give Stephen a Hi Ya’ll for me while you’re at it.

Take a gander at three fun favorites…MARC MORRISTON of WNCT in Greenville NC, STEVE PATRICK of WHEC in Rochester, and DAN FLAXER of WSAV in Savannah. Having fun.

Adore RUSSELL BRAND? For sure. Then it’s good to know a new documentary about him is on tap, and the good folks at illuminate over in Studio City have contributed to making it top drawer. It’s all in the post, which illuminate Prez TAL FIALA said was a blast. Put Brand: A Second Coming on your To Watch list and put illuminate on your give ‘em a call list as well. Well Dunne!

Over in Tulsa town, LARRY NITZ, a 20 year vet of the now-Sinclair owned ABC affil, has been CSDing it – and loving it. At one time, he was set loose due to cutbacks. Upon his return, he landed in the best office in the building (column’s opinion regarding creative). Well Dunne! Larry.

Didn’t make it to SXSW this year? Then keep up with DANI DUDEK’s blog http://www.atxgossip.com.  Highly entertaining ~ Love her style! When not being a firebrand entertainment observer, Ms. Dudek is Marketing Director at Charleston’s WSCS.

Sometime this week, 70 years ago, three months before her 16th birthday, Anne Frank died. She left a gift to the world in the form of her diary, which despite all the horrors she had endured and seen in her short life, glows with the belief that people are, at heart, good. Sometime this week, perhaps you might want to pause and think about this idea of hope and belief in our fellow man. Think about the courage that is in us all and the beauty that surrounds us.

It was one of those Mondays. I want to correct not one, but two glaring  freshman-type errors made in the post on January 13…the one about Denver plus the open jobs alert for the one and only DANI DUDEK in Charleston. First, KDVR in Denver is owned by Tribune. Yes, the fine folks in Chicago have an amazing list of stations, and KDVR is one of them. Second, Dani is looking for some great talent at her station in Charleston, SC (one of the best places in the US hands down), the Raycom-owned WCSC, which no doubt stands for Charleston South Carolina. Please accept my apologies and yes, if anybody is a good editor, please speak up. Who can edit their own words? No, didn’t raise my hand for that one. Well Dunne! everybody.

Finding a mentor in today’s world is a real bonus; icing on the cupcake. One lucky lady who has grabbed the gold ring mentor-wise is SAMANTHA HIGGINS, who is going to work as a producer and editor for the one and only DANI DUDEK in Charleston at CBS affil WCSC in Charleston, SC. And, as such, Samantha will be privy to Dani’s vast knowledge and talents. Doesn’t get a lot better than that when you’re starting out. Not that the Northwood University grad is new to all this; she’s been producing marketing in Wilmington, NC at WECT as well as did a working internship at Cleveland’s WOIO. Lots of excitement all round. Well Dunne! Samantha.

CLYDE BECKER loves the Rocky Mountains. They’re pretty impressive, indeed. So is Clyde’s new job as Creative Services Director of Scripps’ ABC affiliate in the Mile High City, KMGH.  He’ll be returning to Denver where he once headed up the creative efforts of FOX affil KDVR. Along the way Clyde was at Reelz Channel in Albuquerque and WVEC in Norfolk/Hampton Roads. Looks like he’ll be taking I-70 West from Indianapolis where he has been CSD at the Dispatch NBC affil WTHR for the last few years. Excellent news Clyde. Well Dunne!

How exciting is this… MARIAN MASSARO is announcing the The Critics Choice Television Awards on Thursday night from the Beverly Hilton.  You can catch it on The CW…check your own time and locale. But Just Do It! You’ll love Ms. Marian! She gets a big Well Dunne!

DANI DUDEK is a ball of energy. I remember first meeting her when (then) FOX in Charlotte was signing on their news operation. She was young and enthusiastic and you could tell she had a ton of talent. She indeed signed that FOX newscast on and from there, went to Atlanta, Austin and then LA where her bubbly self ended up at Fox Television Stations. Affiliate relations were a breeze for her…the personality kid. She’s a southern girl at heart, and she loves putting her talents to use making on-air spots, so when she saw an opening in Charleston, SC, one of the most exciting places to live, she took it. Dani is taking the Marketing Director slot at Raycom’s WCSC, CBS in Rhett Butler’s hometown. I know she’ll be mincing about the Battery quite soon when she’s not writing fascinating blogs – that girl can wire!  A big Well Dunne! Danielle.

So what about AMANDA CURRY, the lady who had been Marketing Director at WSCS? She’s been promoted. Raycom was on the lookout for two Regional Marketing Managers to help LEC COBLE, who’s kicking It as corporate marketing guru. He tapped Amanda for one of those slots. She’s a grad of The Ohio State University and that’s all I know at the moment…will catch up with her this week.

Lovely MAIA BRUSSEAU, CSD at KDVR in Denver, has the following open slots in the Job Alert section:

Motion Graphic Designer – http://kdvr.com/2014/06/04/motion-graphic-designer/

Commercial Producer/Editor – http://kdvr.com/2014/06/04/commercial-producereditor-2/

DUSTIN MAGWIRE is one lucky guy. He’s just landed a writer producer slot in Austin, TX at Fox’s KTBC working with KATHIE SMITH and the one and only DANI DUDEK. Dustin’s a real Texas so he should be at home in the Lone Star capital. A grad of North Texas up Denton way, Dustin interned at Fox Sports Southwest and worked as an AP for Brush Fire Films in Dallas working on History Channel’s Most Exteme Airports. Way cool.  He was Promotions Director at ABC affil KXXV in Waco before moseying down I-35 and his new job. A big ol’ Well Dunne! Dustin. A margarita will be enjoyed in your name.

What a lucky lady CHRISTINA ROMENTO Is….she gets to work with DON SMITH and DREW FOWLER at Sacramento’s KOVR. Christina is making the switch from being at FOX in Austin (shout out to DANI DUDEK). Christina is a writer producer of the promo variety and has worked at FOX Chicago and FOX Portland as well as KGMB in Hawaii. She’s a Washington State U grad who is going to be much closer to her family in California’s capital. Well Dunne! Christina.

Down Tampa way, CSD DENNIS ELSBURY at ABC affil WFTS has found a new Promotion Manager. He’ll have details next time.

Former ABC Toledo CSD TERRY KOWALSKI is on the lookout for jobs that would bring him further East…closer to his children. New York is the aim. So all you folks about to make a hire…give Terry the first shot.
