Class, open your notebook and let’s begin. Anybody know what ‘carriero’ means. Open your Italian app. Yes, you reading this over your morning coffee. It means cartwright. Maker of wheels and carts. Very good. Yes, that’s correct. We now know something fun about WIVB’ newest Creative Services team member, JAMES CARRIERO. He’s a native Buffalo man who has his degree in communications with an emphasis on production. James comes to his first TV job from being Creative Director and Content Producer for Black Horse Videography. He’s worked at several prodco’s and even worked on a political documentary. He sounds like a real find for CSD STEVE PATRICK. Best thing is his video blog, says the ever cool Steve. Need to get that link and will share with you. Well Dunne! James.  Very cool.

Why yes, that was KOAT’s DEILIA WILLIAMS sipping a drink in the restaurant scene on Better Call Saul. The woman is amazing in so many ways and is now officially cool. Officially.

Think About This:  “The quality of mercy is not strained; It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest; It blesseth him that gives and him that takes: ‘Tis mightiest in the mightiest; it becomes The throned monarch better than his crown: His sceptre shows the force of temporal power, The attribute to awe and majesty, Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings; But mercy is above this sceptred sway; It is enthronèd in the hearts of kings, It is an attribute to God himself; And earthly power doth then show likest God’s When mercy seasons justice.”  ~  William Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice Act V1 Scene 1

The American southwest is one of a kind. There’s nothing exactly like it, even though there are deserts that dwarf it in size and scope. But here in the states, our desert has brought forth art and history and mythology…mesas and vistas….saguaro cacti. Cowboys and westerns. The one thing missing (ok, there’s a few, but work with me here) is green. It’s pretty sparse and far between. Trees, flowers, grass…not so much. And rain. Well, you guys east of the Mississippi have had more than your fair share, while the west side of the river has been pretty dry. When BEN BATES takes the Multimedia Marketing Producer slot at Atlanta’s WXIA, he’ll be returning to the green that’s he’s missed while in Albuquerque as Assistant CSD for Hearst’s KOAT. Ben’s first TV job was at WVLA in Baton Rouge before he made the jump to KDVR in Denver. Both green. He then did a turn at Craftsy Network in the Mile High City before heading to DEILIA WILLIAMS’ creative team in The Q. A big thanks to him for pointing out that southern sweet tea is available at Chick-fil-A for those who crave it and are not in areas where it’s served most anywhere. Big Well Dunne! Ben.

The American Southwest is a one-of-a-kind place that fascinates. There are desserts around the globe, but the US Southwest is a lifestyle, a geography, a history and a myth all rolled together. So is the lower part of Louisiana. Bayous, language, history and humidity meld to imprint the people and form the basis of a unique locale. Some of us are lucky enough to experience one or the other in our creative odyssey. BEN BATES, on the other hand, is experiencing both. All the more material to pull from when the creative juices need oil. Ben is a Baton Rouge native who has just been tapped by the amazing DEILIA WILLIANS (admittedly top of the favorite list) to be her Assistant Creative Services Director of Hearst’s ABC affil in Albuquerque, New Mexico, KOAT. Ben began his TV journey at WVLA in Louisiana’s capital city where he was a Promo Producer. From there he headed west to Denver’s KDVR’s where he forged more promo chops. Like a lot of promo folks, he felt the need for a ‘news break’ and joined Denver-based Craftsy editing long form educational videos about…Crafts. See, the name says it all. Then, like promo folks do, TV called and Deilia was on the other end. He and his wife will be settling down in The Duke City right before Christmas, and they both promise to go to Santa Fe and see the farolitos, which give The City Different a feel akin to pure magic. Looking forward to getting to know him even better…as should you. Well Dunne! Ben!

From the ‘an oldie but a goodie’ file is MALLORY CONNELLY. Not that she’s old – definitely not…but she has been heading up Promotion for CBS affil KOLN in Lincoln Nebraska for the last year, so it’s not brand new news at this point. She’s Marketing Director of the Gray-owned operation who comes from the newsroom, having been a content producer for them at one time. Always good to have someone who knows what it takes to get a cast on the air…really knows what it takes. Mallory has a degree from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has a fabulous Irish name. Well Dunne! Ms. Connelly.

Austin and Albuquerque have more in common than both starting with the letter ‘A’. Both cool places to live, filled with artists and university students. Both named after historical figures, namely Stephen F Austin and the 8th Duke of Albuquerque, a Spanish nobleman. Both hosting Must-See events like Austin’s SXSW and Albuqueque’s balloon festival. Now we must add another similarity to the list: home to DOUG DONAHOO. Mr. D is leaving Hearst’s KOAT in Albuquerque where he’s been for the last several years and heading to FOX in Austin. Doug’s a Kansas guy and a Jayhawk through and through, so it will be an adventure living where Longhorns rule. Big Well Dunne! to you Doug.

Kudos to SHANNON DRIVER who is now Senior Vice President of Network Marketing and Creative Services for HGTV, DIY Network and Great American Country. Well Dunne!

A bit of confusion on what day precisely is International Coffee Day. Google and its many sources have it listed as today (if you read this the last day of September 2015) or October 1. Of course it’s a PR move – this one by the London-based International Coffee Organization, a UN entity – but a very nice one indeed – especially if they can nail down the date. On tap for the day is a focus on international fair trade coffee as well as discounts and perhaps even free cups. Plan accordingly and celebrate coffee both days.

Did you all catch that icy pileup on the Philadelphia Interstate…cars and trucks and ice…major mess? It was horrible, but, I’m told, normal for winter in Philly. Which is probably one thing JAMES GRIFFEL will not miss when he heads down to Palm Beach to head up the creative for Sinclair’s WPEC, CBS under the palms. James has been in Philly at Fox as Executive Producer Creative Services at Fox, WTFX. Florida weather will be well deserved by the Rutgers grad, who has been doing creative in places like Cadillac, Detroit, Indianapolis, Flint and Saginaw. Yep, he will definitely not need the accumulation of boots, mufflers and ice scrapers anymore. And one of the best parts of James is his generosity in recognizing and encouraging talent. Not only does he get a Well Dunne! but he also gets a gold star and a lot of happy sent his way. He deserves it.

Timing, particularly good timing – it’s important in all sorts of endeavors. Sports, TV, love and weather come to mind. CRAIG DAVENPORT is combining TV and weather timing in his next career move when he returns to sunny Florida just in time to see the rest of the country get out their heavy coats and snow boots. First part of December, Craig is heading to Jacksonville, Florida to take over the creative reins at Cox’s duopoly, WTEV and WAWS, CBS and Fox respectively. Timing. Craig is leaving WSOC, the Cox ABC affil in Charlotte and, though he hates to depart after giving the station his creative energetic spin, it’s a good move for him. He’s got Florida chops – spent 14 years or so at WPEC down in West Palm. He know doubt knows all about palm tree maintenance. Well Dunne! Craig.

Not only did Albuquerque hold their balloon festival to welcome KOAT’s CSD DEILIA WILLIAMS (OK, so they do that yearly but this year, it was perfect timing for Ms. D) but just this weekend, they had the Southwest Bacon Festival! They didn’t try to put green chili on the bacon, did they?

One of my favorite Creatives has news to share. And it’s muy feliz news. DEILIA RAY WILLIAMS, who loves shoes and is, in essence, a ‘shoe sister’, is the new Creative Services Director of KOAT, the Hearst ABC in Albuquerque. KOAT and shoes…a fashion move of sorts. She’ll be decamping her California job at Hearst’s ABC affil KSBW in the Cali Central coast, specifically Salinas/Santa Cruz/Monterrey where she headed creative services.  A southern lady by birth, manners and recipes, Miss Deilia has worked as Assistant CSD at WLKY in Louisville as well as learning the promo ropes at WHNS in Greenville SC where she wore the producer and Sr. Producer hats. She’ll be in the Land of Enchantment by the end of September and her whole family is going to greet October in their new city. Best part of Fall will be the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, scheduled to float off Oct 4. The entire Williams clan will never see anything like it again and it’s the best way to welcome them to NM. Well Dunne! Deilia!

The adorable DEILIA WILLIAMS (Creative Services Director superb) has found her Assistant Creative Services Director and is welcoming her onboard as you read this. Joining KSBW, Hearst’s NBC in Monterrey (gorgeous coastal California) is COREY SULLIVAN. The University of Central Florida grad was part of several films that hit the festival circuit…she was digital cinema editor through Chris Layhe Associates. She’s done TV promo as Promotion Manager for Cowles California Media, which is a whole lot of stations in the San Luis Obispo/Santa Maria/Santa Barbara market. No doubt she and Deilia will be cooking up some off the shelf marketing. Well Dunne! Corey.

What is it that makes it more interesting to follow people with whom we have a former work place in common…or a hometown, etc. It just is. Anybody know why? Buehler? Anyway, former KMOX TV TD and production whiz MARY GOULD is one such person. Midwest connections are strong. Mary spent the last nearly 2 years up in Austin-Rochester Minnesota as Promo Supervisor of KAAL, the Hubbard ABC affil. She is now a Multi-Media Designer and Producer for Alabama Public Television, down in Birmingham. Let’s face it, after the record-breaking snow and cold of last winter, Ms. Mary will enjoy a soft southern winter, eh? She’s uber-talented, knowing all sorts of technical things as well as being full of artistic pizaaz. Well Dunne! Ms. Mary.

Yes, there is life after television. TODD LONG, who writes comedy and is talented in so many other ways as well, is using all that background of his to bring video to Raytheon, where he’s officially Senior Visual Effects Artist. He learned a lot doing TV promo at WAFF in Huntsville as well at net affiliates in Omaha and Victoria, TX. Always glad to hear about excellent transitions. Well Dunne! Todd.

How did you start your day. Bet it wasn’t as much fun as the folks in Vegas, where they did a 5K down the Vegas strip with Dr. Oz. Seen on the scene were WXYZ’s DAVE BAUMANN (looking muy fit), KJRH’s SAMANTHA KNOWLTON, WNCT’s MARC MORRISTON (who quipped that the run should have been named the ‘I’m not in shape 5K”), MARIAH GARDNER of WAGT and WJLA’s BONNIE WOOD. Way to go kids…wear those I Did The Strip With Dr. Oz shirts with pride. Well Dunne!

If you run into the one and only DEILIA WILLIAMS, make sure to comment on her shoes.

Starting 2013 off on the right note is ANDREW ECKMAN who has been promoted to Promotion Manager for Central Coast ABC, known in the call letter world as KSBW. It’s in the most gorgeous part of the country, Monterrey CA is. That whole central coast…sublime.  Andrew is a native Californian who was raised in Pleasanton, just outside San Fran. He went to school at Penn State (and even worked as a Sports Information intern) and did TV interning at FOX in the Bay Area, KTVU. He’s been at KSBW since ’08, first as a photog/editor in News then jumping to Creative. He’s obviously done a great job, what with the promotion. A shout out to his boss, one of my faves, DEILIA WILLIAMS. Well Dunne! Andrew.

Heading to the Golden State, which is, of course, California….drum roll please….none other than the one, the only, the favorite….cue the applause sign, people… DEILIA WILLIAMS. Ms. D is heading not just to California, but to the prettiest part of the state…the Monterrey area. Her new title is Creative Services Director at Hearst’s ABC affil KSBW, and it’s her first time to run the creative show. She is giving up her Promotion Manager slot at  Hearst’s WLKY in Louisville.  Hates to leave CSD BRUCE BURNS but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Her hubby and two children are all along for the ride and looking forward to that laid-back lifestyle Cali is so famous for. Perhaps surfing lessons are an option. Ms. Deilia is a southern girl from South Carolina and is one amazing writer. Well Dunne! Deilia. Get a big place and make room now and then for your shoe shopping partner.

Getting a big job is THERESE GAMBA, just named Senior Vice President of Marketing for the NBC Television Station Group. Therese has an impressive resume including VP of Marketing and programming at KABC, KGO, TNN, Worldvision Entertainment, Sony Pix TV…you get the idea. Well Dunne! Therese.

Always good to hear from shoe sisters, and such is the case with WLKY’s DEILIA WILLIAMS. Ms. Deilia is Assistant Creative Services Manager at the CBS affil in Louisville. They’re been on the hunt for a topical pro and are so happy to announce that NATHAN WHITE is that choice. Nathan hales from the Tidewater area of Virginia, specifically Ivor. He’s making the long trip across the hall from News to Promotions for his new life chapter. Nathan’s an award-winning photojournalist and has been covering the happenings for the last 4 years. Now, he’s going to use his newsroom goodwill to do topicals. Well Dunne! Nathan.

New  York based SARA NIEDZ KERN is now Promotions Manager at Turner Broadcasting. The Florida alum was previously Commercial Marketing Manager, Adult Swim.  Well Dunne! Sara
