Is there anything as exhilarating as someone with a new career slot – they’re so happy and enthusiastic that it transfers and that happiness and enthusiasm makes your day? What a great way to start the week, and we have ALEXANDRIA LEAVENWORTH to thank. She’s the newly named (actually it’s a promotion) creative services producer for Hearst’s KSBW located along the gorgeous central California coast. Ms. Alex, as she calls herself shared the following:  I started at KSBW in February 2015 as a part-time Master Control Operator and Production Assistant, was promoted to a full-time Production Assistant in August 2015. Then, I took a risk by dropping from full-time to part-time again, to go into my dream department as an Assistant Creative Services Producer in May 2016, and now am back to full-time in my new role as a CSP! (Whew! It’s been a journey). A go-getter with a Masters in Journalism and Mass Communications specializing in Integrated Media Communications from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Alex sounds like she can handle the biz as it spins different ways daily. She’s a delight and her CSD ED EVEREST was very happy to bring her aboard – bet the whole market loves their work. A very big Well Dunne! Alex!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN. Want to hear a frightening story? This is one about the recruiting firm that is desperate to fill a major market open CSD slot and the firm has NO idea about what marketing is, no idea about the station itself, no idea how to write (think hyperbole then magnify it for their site and emails) and they don’t coordinate their efforts. That, my pretties, is enough to make one get out one’s flying monkeys.

There is just no question at all to the statement : the central coast of California is the most fabulous place to live. You’ve got ideal weather (not too hot – not too cold), breathtaking scenery, jazz and food and wine festivals galore….you even have Clint Eastwood. No wonder ED EVEREST is returning to his old stomping grounds. At one time, he was CSD at the Hearst NBC affil on the central Cali coast, KSBW. And he’ll be going back to wrangle the marketing. He’s been in Pittsburgh (home to 4 Well Dunne Talent talents) for three years at ABC affil WTAE, but the call of palm trees, surf and the laid back lifestyle no doubt was too tempting. He’ll be taking his show on the road and heading west. Ed is an Indiana U grad who has also worked in Augusta, GA (yes, the Masters city) at WAGT as Promo Manager. When he’s sipping wine on his patio poolside this February, we will be just a tad bit jealous. Good news, Ed. And Well Dunne!

Let’s hope MICHAEL O’TOOLE is all rested…cause he’s headed to the city that never sleeps. Yep, Michael is the newest member of the creative team at New York’s FOX operation. VP BRIAN BLUM shared the news. O’Toole (love that Irish name!) is driving up I-95 from his old slot as VP of Creative Services at WUTB, the MyTV station in Charm City. He did a terrific job, sometimes doing it all himself.  Michael and Brian worked together in the past at San Diego’s KUSI, and also they worked together promoting WUTB from the Secaucus location…so this new teaming will be particularly fun. The multi-talented Michael has a degree in Broadcast Management from USC, and has done creative marketing for Cox Communiations in LA. Well Dunne! Michael.

Guess who is STILL doing double duty, both her Promo Manager job AND doing nighttime topicals? WTAE’s TRACY OLIVER. If you’re a writer producer and want to work in a fab market for a great ownership group…send your info to WTAE. Tracy won’t have the time to read it, but CSD ED EVEREST will – much to Tracy’s delight.

Job Alert – NYC-based writer producer editor for promos at Ion Media Network

Too bad this is not coming to you from some fabulous spiritual locale on the farflung map. 11-11-11 was going to be mystical. Well, let’s make it mystical no matter where we are.

How busy is the new WTAE Pittsburgh Promotion Manager? SO busy she’s had to postpone one of those great phone conversations full of exciting quotes for this blog. And the reason she’s so busy is that she’s doing two jobs at once. It’s just while they find a new creative to take her old slot. So while TRACY OLIVER, who sounds like a dynamo, toils doing Topicals, we’ll have to just take it from her boss, CSD ED EVEREST, that she’s gotten a well-deserved bump. We’ll check back with Tracy later, but are sending the Hearst CBS PM a big ol’ Well Dunne!

Let’s hear it for DON SMITH. He’s the Promo Manager out at KOVR in Sacramento, working with CSD DREW FOWLER. Don is a major fave and one great guy, who today is celebrating the 4th anniversary of his amazing blog, IDOPROMOZ. Definitely check it out daily. Well Dunne! Don.

Think About This:  (This was used by Nelson Mandela in his Inaugural Speech 1994) “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and famous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people will feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~ Marianne Williamson

It’s hard to leave the gorgeous Monterrey area of California (think heaven with amazing golf) but when a great market and a great opportunity comes around, well, one has to box it up and move. Such is the case with ED EVEREST, who is the new Creative Services Director of Hearst’s WTAE in Pittsburgh. Ed decamps his Hearst-owned KSBW TV where he was CSD and where he recently helped launch Central Coast ABC, a multicast channel situation. He begins his new chapter and the trek across the Rockies come late June. Ed has a degree from Indiana U and has worked doing promo magic in Augusta, GA. When you see him at the PROMAX Station Summit, make sure you give him a high five. Well Dunne! Ed.

Cali is losing another creative when WILL HARRIS leaves for Seattle. Currently the Sr. Writer Producer at Cox’s KTVU in the San Francisco market, Will has been tapped to be the new  Promotion Manager for CBS affil KIRO, also owned by Cox. He’ll be working with the talented CSD MATT LAWS up in the Starbucks headquarter city after spending five years working with CSD JEFF HOLUB in SF. Will graduated from Norfolk State and started his TV career at FOX in Dallas, KDFW. He’s also been with WPHL in Philly. Will starts his new life chapter in June. Well Dunne! Will.

Job Alert – KENS 5 in San Antonio (which is a GREAT place to live) is on the hunt for a creative writer-producer-editor. Send your resumes to CSD ALLEN LANSING –  alansing@kens5.com
