Austin, Texas is one of those really great markets. It acts like a major city but has a lot of the easiness of a smaller town. Great combo. Most people, once they live in Austin, don’t want to leave. And if you’re lucky, you don’t have to. Yes, most there ignore the Texas politicians, and that’s a good thing. I believe one can’t ignore the Texas Longhorns, but that’s not the point. The point is it’s a super place, and NATALIA EGAN looks like she’s found the ideal spot for a long and happy stay. The lady in question hales from the Hartford, Connecticut area, and came to Austin about seven years ago. After getting a start in TV promo at WVIT, NBC in Hartford, she came south to be Senior Promo Producer for Austin’s CW and NBC there, KXAN. First promotion was to Brand Manager and now, just a few weeks ago,  she was named Creative Services Director. Since it’s Texas, let’s add a big YeeHaw to the Well Dunne! Natalia.

ED ROTH is getting new biz cards with Content Brand Manager as his new title. Yes, it means he’s wrangling the brand across all and every platform for Scripps’ syndie show The List. Bravo and Well Dunne! Ed

Think About This: “How do you know which of your intentions is likely to be fulfilled? The answer lies in paying attention to the clues provided by the nonlocal mind. Notice the coincidences in your life. Coincidences are messages. They are clues from God or spirit or nonlocal reality, urging you to break out of your karmic conditioning, your familiar patterns of thinking. They are offering you an opportunity to enter a domain of awareness where you feel loved and cared for by the infinite intelligence that is your source. Spiritual traditions call this the state of grace." ~ Deepak Chopra

No secret how evocative the name Valley of the Sun is. Phoenix’s nickname alludes to the idea of market #12 being an oasis in the great Southwest high country. Magical in a way. An amazing locale that is home to a burgeoning creative sector. The latest creative member to hit the city limits is LAUREL PORTIE. Ms. Laurel is reporting for work as the new promo writer-producer for The List, the syndicated strip produced by Scripps at their KNXV locale. A native of south Louisiana, she’ll handle the heat very well, thanks for asking. Sans humidity, it will be devine. Laurel has the knack for promotion and has worked and learned at such operations as CBS’s KTVT in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Sinclair’s operation in San Antonio and Media General’s WNCT in Greenville, NC. (All humidity markets, fyi). It’s a mutual admiration society with her new boss, ED ROTH, Marketing Manager for The List. BTW, Ms. Laurel is also a musician and has played all over – ask her about Mrs. Howel. A big smile along with a huge Well Dunne! Laurel.

2C Media has changed their name…it’s now 2C Creative. Even more excitement is on tap – they have wrangled the best talent you can imagine. Make a note…and check them out. They rock!

As long as you do not accept reality, you are powerless to define the role you will play. Failure to accept reality is a denial of your power to make a conscious choice. When you do not choose, you live by default. You are a victim of circumstances."  ~ Iyanla Vanzant

Desert living is great…hot dry air, spectacular sunrises and sets, cacti. Phoenix is particularly excellent; surrounded by mountains and full of art, cuisine, shopping and talented people. The next new talent in the Valley of the Sun isn’t exactly new…he lived there in the past and is excited to return, not just to family but to a terrific new job. The Welcome Back matt is out for BRANDT DOTSON who is going to work for Scripps’ nationally syndicated The List. Yes, he’s going to be writing and producing promos, and he’s quite good at it. For the last year or so, he’s been in Tulsa at KJRH. Before that he honed his craft in Sacramento’s Hearst station as well as in Tucson. He’ll be working with the uber-talented ED ROTH so all kind of fireworks are on the horizon. Big Well Dunne! Brandt. Hope your oral surgery went well.

All the best wishes in the world going out to promo lady GAYLE GLUCK who just got engaged. The founder of Our Gang Productions is so happy, you can feel her smile through the pixels.

ED ROTH was already hard at work on his second day on the job…caught him in a meeting to be precise. He’s the new Marketing Manager of Scripps’ show The List. He’s happy and adjusting very well to the Phoenix locale. Ed’s been in LA and no doubt will find the real estate prices at this end of I-10 to be more to his liking (to anyone’s liking actually). He’s bringing a wealth of marketing, producing and promotional background with him…including station-side work at WFLD and WMAQ in Chicago and KUSA and KWGN in Denver. Let’s not forget his own consulting The Ed Roth Show which found his work on CNN, ABC and cool baseball promos for The San Diego Padres. He was part of the legendary Jacobs and Gerber at one time, and was Executive Director Creative Service for Buena Vista TV, now called Disney/ABC Domestic Television. He’s got a very impressive list of his own! Well Dunne! Ed.

Many of you are reading this on 9/11. Time has eased the blow, diminished the shock, and given us all time to come to terms with the myriad of changes these 12 years have brought. Let’s make a concerted effort to remember all the people who were lost on that day, in NYC, Pennsylvania and DC and not focus on the divisions that have sprung up since.
