Happy New Year one and all. Starting off a new cycle of 365 with a promotion is always a good omen, eh? No doubt why BRANSON KIMBALL is smiling in the picture. He’s been named Assistant Creative Services Director of ABC’s WTVD in the Raleigh Durham market. Branson has been doing fab work as Sr. Writer Producer, which is what one expects from an App State grad. Let’s hear it for Boone and App State!! Branson gets a big Well Dunne! with many more to come.
Meanwhile, his CSD CHRISTIE GONZALES is in Sydney Australia over this holiday season. While many of you are digging out from winter snow, she’s enjoying summer temps along with the kangaroos.
While the spotlight is on North Carolina, best wishes and all happiness go out to Media General’s CBS affil WNCT’s MARC MORRISTON who tied the knot this holiday season. All the best Mr. and Mrs. M.
Job Alert – 2C Media in Miami Florida has a couple of positions currently open: SENIOR GRAPHICS DESIGNER and SUPERVISING PROMO WRITER/PRODUCER. I’ve got details….
Well Dunne! Talent sadly must take more time away due to travel and a sudden loss. But please let us know about your new jobs, open slots and anything that can put a smile on faces. Stay warm and enjoy today’s Think About This.
Think About This: “I hope you will have a wonderful year, that you’ll dream dangerously and outrageously, that you’ll make something that didn’t exist before you made it, that you will be loved and that you will be liked, and that you will have people to love and to like in return. And, most importantly (because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now), that you will, when you need to be, be wise, and that you will always be kind.” ~ Neil Gaiman
STEVE POITRAS is one lucky guy. For the last few years, he’s been living in the San Diego market, which has the best weather in the US (sorry, Honolulu and Maui, but your humidity makes you #2). While in SD, he was heading up the marketing efforts for CBS affil KFMB. He has an remarkable background including VP Marketing and Creative at Tribune’s KTLA in LA (super weather) and VP Station Manager KPIX CBS in San Francisco. For 15 years, Steve was the Director of Marketing for Cox’s KTVU in the Bay Area…and he’s now ‘going home’ to take the reigns again for Fox SF. Yep, one lucky guy and one lucky station. Well Dunne! Steve.
Ever need a nice word…a friendly face (of sorts) to let you know it’s all going to be just fine? Now you can have that with a few clicks…it’s a website called Calming Manatee, where Florida’s incredible water creatures (who need our help to survive) will look in on you and share a kind idea. It’s bound to bring a smile to you. Click here then bookmark.
Think About This: “Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, and don’t put up with people that are reckless with yours.” ~ Mary Schmich
MANNY DELA ROSA has his hands full as Marketing Director of KMIR, the NBC affiliate in the Palm Springs market. (Note: who isn’t in love with Palm Springs? OMG…the gorgeous desert and all the twinkly white lights you can envision, with the panache of The Rat Pack lingering in the best of places). But the demands of TV marketing doesn’t stop him from doing so much more. The Purdue grad is making a name for himself as “Manny the Movie Guy”…he reviews films in his own style and bubbles with enthusiasm while doing it. Check out the website. And he’s syndicated…seen on stations coast to coast and the Filipino Channel, too. Did we mention he also does radio appearances? Whew…he must take some powerfully good vitamins! Well Dunne! Mannie.

It’s a mere 55 miles from Cincinnati to Dayton, but its an entirely different market. That’s what makes the east coast so interesting. When Sinclair bought WKRC, the CBS affil in Cincinnati, long time Cox marketing lady JENNIFER BUCHEIT moved up those 55 miles to take the creative lead at still-Cox-owned WHIO. Well Dunne! Jennifer.

Think About This: "When your tasks seem a little heavy and over-whelming remember just to do one thing at a time quietly, and leave the rest because the rest is not your job. What you cannot get through you must hand back to God, and God will work it out for you." ~ White Eagle
New Orleans is so unique. The music, food, ambiance…the ability to overcome and endure. It’s all part of what makes The Big Easy one of the world’s most unique places. No wonder locals will stay and stay…who can blame them? One such New Orleanian (is that righ?) is TREVOR CASSIDY, who has been named Promotion Manager at venerable WWL TV, CBS. He’s a Loyola grad who has an art and graphics background. He freelanced at WDSU and handled video production at the Saint Tammany Parish School Board. He’s been at WWL and they’re thrilled to have him and give him the new title/duties. Super holiday bonus, eh! Well Dunne! Trevor and thanks to CSD JOSH MEZA for the info.
Think About This: ‘One of the symptoms of an approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that one’s work is terribly important.’ ~ Bertrand Russell
Have you ever been to San Antonio during the holiday season? It’s not the Currier & Ives winter scene so many of us associate with Christmas, but it’s the most lovely blend of historic and religious Mexican and Texan traditions. Their Riverwalk is all gorgeous lights and the La Posada reenactment in the King William district is moving and beautiful. All said to lay the groundwork for TERRY MCFARLANE’s return to Texas. Terry is headed to SA to be Creative Services Director for Sinclair San Antonio, which means NBC affil WOAI-TV, FOX affiliate KABB and CW affil KMYS. He’ll be taking leave of Palm Beach (just as The Season gets underway!) on this his second time as a Texan – he was CSD in Dallas-Ft. Worth at KTVT/CBS and KXAS/NBC. Other promo stops along the way for Terry include WISN Milwaukee, KLAS in Vegas and KTVX in Salt Lake City. Well Dunne! Terry.
Meanwhile, AZALIA HOELTING is starting up her own biz. She was CSD at KABB/KMYS and has a terrific background in marketing and special events honed at such locales as Dallas and Oklahoma City. So it makes perfect sense for her to get a special events concern going in a tourist and convention town! Yes, she’ll keep in touch with us. Can’t wait to hear great things. Well Dunne! Azaila.

Think About This: “"How many times have we called on God and then ignored the opportunities he sent? Maybe we didn’t recognize them because they didn’t take the form we expected. Spiritual surrender requires faith, but it also requires paying attention to opportunities and taking action. We need to look to God for guidance, to keep us on the right course, but we can’t expect God to kick-start us every morning and deliver breakfast in bed." ~ Kathy Cordova

Think About This: “Great souls are they who see that spiritual is stronger than material force, that thoughts rule the world.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
This holiday was absolutely full of ‘non-holiday’ events. From KEYE’s CSD STEVE HARRIS’ truck getting totaled (he’s OK…that’s the best news) to Lincoln, Nebraska based former KLKN TV promo pro DAVE DWINELL’s heart attack and bypass surgery (sending him healing thoughts…knowing he’ll be just fine in no time)….the events weren’t ones that bring about confetti and champagne. Our best thoughts go out to COUNCIL BRADSHAW, Fox Charlotte’s CSD, whose father passed away. And to a Raleigh-based PR lady whose house burned down on T-day itself. It all boils down to the reminder to be kinder with each other. We need to give each other more Well Dunne!’s….and focus on helping each other in any way we can.
Remember, the tech folks are dealing with Well Dunne! Talent site, so it will be up and down for the next few days. We’re still there 1000%….

Name three things that are Philly to the max. 1 – Cheese steaks. Good answer. 2 – Rocky Balboa jogging up those stairs. Yep, that’s true 3 – Cream cheese. Ha! Name only. Let’s add NOELLE KEARNS to the list. The Philly lady is back in the City of Brotherly Love, writing and producing super marketing for MIKE MONSELL at ABC’s WPVI. She worked there and even was an intern there, so it’s rather like home. Ms. Noelle had been out in Phoenix at Scripps’ KNXV, the ABC in the Valley of the Sun, but I guess those snow-free winters are now a thing of the past. The Temple grad (yep, that’s in Philadelphia) is happy and that’s such great news to report. Well Dunne! Noelle.

FYI – Well Dunne! Talent site is going to be up and down the next few days while some very tech-savy folks do their thing. But fear not…it’s all going to be better in the long run. If you need anything, just call. You remember that old fashioned phone thing, right?
Think About This: "Seek and reverence the light in the heart of every soul you meet. Remember the light shining in the heart of the simplest earth child; reverence that, and help that light in your brother-sister to shine. So, gradually, the light will spread throughout the world, and the new age of brotherhood will truly dawn" ~ White Eagle
Gratitude is an elusive commodity to some. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons Thanksgiving is such a beloved holiday…it allows us to stop and count our blessings, as trite as that may sound. For those who are working at jobs they love…jobs that help them grow and discover their inner magic, this holiday will be an opportunity to reflect on that. And to think of those who are struggling and need a kind word…a moment of your time on the phone…an acknowledgement. Since last Thanksgiving, so many of us have lost someone we love. Please enjoy those who surround you (even at crowded airports and jammed up Interstates) and find a way to bring a smile. It costs nothing and means everything.
Thank you ALL for reading and following this blog and for those who have discovered the amazing capacity of the Well Dunne! Talent list. You’re the best and for that, I am profoundly grateful. Enjoy your holiday. Come back next week!

Well, Miles is CURTIS MILES, VP of Programming and Creative at ABCs WLS in Chicago and Kahle is KHRIS KAHLE, his soon-to-be new Assistant Creative Services Director. It’s the third time the two have worked together…and the pairing seems to be a success for everyone involved. DEAN CAIN is such a cutie. But he’s got a lot of depth and heart. How cool is it to get to say SHAZAM all the time, Gomer Pyle fans included. Pretty cool and it’s a very fascinating company with that name that has lured PROMAX/bda head JONATHAN VERK away from leading the international creative group. He’ll be the new EVP Strategic Partnerships, Head of Television for the company with the name we love. Need to see if he’ll be relocating to London headquarters or if he’ll stay in LA. Whatever the plan, he’ll be missed but he won’t be a stranger. Well Dunne! Jonathan.

Yes, it is indeed 11-12-13. Math can be fun. What isn’t fun is losing good people when they leave the industry. One such soon-to-depart gem is SAMANTHA KNOWLTON. She’s been heading up the creative efforts of Scripps’ NBC affil KJRH in Tulsa since 2000 and during that time she was always a total pro with a smile you could feel over the phone lines. What has enticed Ms. Samantha away from the crazy world of TV marketing? Probably the concept of normalcy for one. She’s accepted the slot of Events Marketing Manager for the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Excellent. Samantha promises to keep in touch. Well Dunne! Samantha on your new adventure.

Heading back to the south is JEFF HOLUB, who will exit his Director of Marketing slot for KTVU, FOX out in the city by the bay to take the Creative Services Director slot at CBS affil WGCL in Atlanta. In the past, Jeff headed up marketing for WXAN & WSOC in Charlotte after putting in communication time at Piedmont Gas. The U of Toledo grad did one of my all-time favorite promotions when he sent out a ransom note demanding holiday cheer, accompanied by a little white box with a red reindeer “nose” inside. Sorry that description fails to make the impact his creation did. Well Dunne! Jeff.
KENNY LAWRENCE is never going to have a problem getting an idea approved by his GM again. He’s now the GM!
