Growing up in the Midwest near St. Louis offered many insightful life lessons. One was experiencing all four seasons. In the depths of winter, nothing was more enticing than the thought of sun shining through palm trees in Florida. The Cardinals had their spring training camp in St. Pete, and the stands were full of baseball fans who rather gleefully basked in the warmth while commenting on the frigid temps back home. Some of the most fervent winter avoiders were able to work and live in the Sunshine State, and one such Midwesterner is GAYLE BEATTY. Ms. Gayle is heading to Orlando, where she’ll be working with VP Creative CHRIS FRIEDRICHS at Fox’s WOFL as a writer producer for the combo stations, WRBW and WOGX. Gayle is no stranger to Florida – she’s worked for TV operations in Sarasota at WWSB where she was CSD as well as in Tampa where she was Promo Manager for WFTX, the Scripps’ ABC. The SIU Carbondale grad got her start in TV at KSNW in Wichita as Marketing Coordinator and Promo Producer and was lucky to work with DALE LOCKETT at KHOU in Houston. She’ll be celebrating a Disney Christmas for sure. Well Dunne! Gayle.

Think About This: Hold on to what is good, even if it’s a handful of earth. Hold on to what you believe, even if it’s a tree that stands by itself. Hold on to what you must do, even if it’s a long way from here. Hold on to your life, even if it’s easier to let go. Hold on to my hand, even if I’ve gone away from you. ~ Pueblo Indian Prayer

Think About This: "To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter; to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring – these are some of the rewards of the simple life." ~ John Burroughs

Hitting Sarasota Sunday – tornadoes. Starting at Sarasota’s WWSB Monday – GAYLE BEATTY. No need to guess what major story will be the focus of her first day’s promo efforts. Ms. Gayle is heading up the marketing for the Calkins-owned ABC in one of America’s most gorgeous cities. Yes, despite the tornado problem, which is extremely rare, Sarasota sits on the Gulf of Mexico and reminds one of Monte Carlo. After a stint as Promo Manager for Scripps’ WFTS, ABC in Tampa-St Pete, Gayle is taking the Sunshine Skyway south, maintaining her desire to keep palm trees in her life. The Benton Illinois native has a degree from SIU Carbondale and her first ‘real’ TV job was at KSNW in Wichita. She headed south to Houston after that, working and producing at KHOU, KHBW, and KIAH. Gayle is creative and persistent. Excellent. A very well deserved Well Dunne! Ms. Beatty.

Think About This: “And it’s a human need to be told stories. The more we’re governed by idiots and have no control over our destinies, the more we need to tell stories to each other about who we are, why we are, where we come from, and what might be possible.” ~ Alan Rickman

Oops…GAYLE BEATTY of the broken wrist story from yesterday was at Scripps’ WFTS, not Gannett’s WTSP. Yes, there is need for a good editor…or babysitter…or something like that. LOL.
Anybody like those articles that have a number and then headlines about how to do something? You know, like this one (which is pretty good…) 10 Great Things Great Leaders Know and Do
Think About This: “If I knew that today would be the last time I’d see you, I would hug you tight and pray the Lord be the keeper of your soul. If I knew that this would be the last time you pass through this door, I’d embrace you, kiss you, and call you back for one more. If I knew that this would be the last time I would hear your voice, I’d take hold of each word to be able to hear it over and over again. If I knew this is the last time I see you, I’d tell you I love you, and would not just assume foolishly you know it already.” ~ Gabriel García Márquez

San Francisco has the most vibrant video production needs. Freelancing there is quite exciting. Just ask ANDREW ECKMAN, former Promo Manager of Hearst’s KSBW along the central Cali coast. He moved a little north to the Bay Area where he married his lady love and hung out his shingle. Life is good for Mr. E and happy endings are the best way to kick off the week. Well Dunne! Andrew.
Monday is also a good day to fix problems, as is the case with former Tampa WTSP Promo Manager GAYLE BEATTY. Ms. Gayle is a doll, and after a good workout, she tripped down some stairs and broke her wrist. Ouch and day-um. Operation is Monday, so send her healing thoughts. She’s super and one must remember that a broken wrist does not in any way impede the creative ideas pouring from her brain. Soon we’ll be sending a Well Dunne! to her MD. Bet her sling will be artistic.
