A cousin who was an emergency room nurse for years had a saying: the gates are wide open. Like most Irish first daughters, the family uses humor to blunt the pain of real life, When she announced the gates were open, she meant the Pearly Gates and she meant that people were leaving the planet fin droves or heaven. Sadly, the gates are open again at the moment. Please send your kind thoughts to KCPQ’s SYDNEY RUBIN whose mother has left us. And please send your kind thoughts to WHNT’s BECKY SHORES whose mother also has left. Both of these talented women are caring and generous. Bless them. Their mothers raised two amazing ladies and I know their mothers are proud of them beyond words.
Think About This: I am your mother. You are my child. I am your quiet place. You are my wild. I am your calm face. You are my giggle. I am your wait. You are my wiggle. I am your dinner. You are my chocolate cake. I am your bedtime. You are my wide awake. I am your lullaby. You are my peek-a-boo. I am your goodnight kiss. You are my I love you.
He’s been busy for a few months now, but it’s never too late to give support and attention to people with new jobs, like SCOTT STUDACH, who’s doing Topical magic at KCPQ in Seattle. Topical Magic…hmmm…a new body spray? Scott has that innate love of media that allows his talents to make him what used to be called a triple threat: writer, editor, photog. Yep, he’s amazing. His official title is Sr. News Brand Producer at the at-the-moment Tribune Fox. He’s been involved with some exciting companies, like Red Bull and Seattle Media House. His specialty…filming on snow. He’s even got a bona fide IMDB listing. Let’s all give Scott an enthusiastic Well Dunne!
Today would have been LEE MINARD’s birthday. This Saturday, his amazing and talented family invited those who could make it to celebrate his life. It was glorious. In a room overlooking a cloudy and misty Arizona day, the mountains looking like watercolors, people remembered this man and all that he brought to us. Whether you were connected via work, family, music, photography, neighborhood or friendship, he was always present, always honest, never made one feel like time was being squeezed to listen and help. SO in honor of Lee, would you make a vow to pick up the phone (or text if you must) and reach out to someone you might have lost touch with…or someone who reached out to you earlier (it’s never too late to return a call even if you think it is) …or someone you want to compliment. Just do it. And remember, life is short so eat dessert first.

Nancy is the recently promoted News Brand Manager at currently-Tribune’s FOX affil Q13 in Seattle. She had been Creative Services Coordinator but got the bump in the last few weeks. She confides that she doesn’t own a dog or cat, but has a Godzilla action figure on her desk. Alright alright alright! Things are looking much brighter for SYDNEY RUBIN, BRENT AYRES and the creative folks at KCPQ in Seattle. Despite this past winter being the wettest on record, the forecast is for sunny and bright thanks to the new hire that’s coming on board the Tribune FOX affiliate. ANDREW MAGPOC is headed to Starbuck’s home base from Colorado. He and Ms. Sydney worked together at KOAA in Colorado Springs and the duo looks to continue to create together again. Andrew was most recently at Professional Bull Riders Inc. Yes, how interesting is that when it comes to resume additions. Andrew handled video of course as Sr. Video Editor. No word on whether he wrangled livestock. His background is fascinating – he’s worked for Oprah at Harpo as Motion Graphics Designer. The Hawaiian Islands saw his work as Creative Director at KGMB, as well as promo producing for KHON and KITV. Syd has a nose for talent. He’ll be the Senior Writer Producer in his Seattle slot. Well Dunne! Andrew.

There’s a lot of movement happening… people moving from the mountains to the coast and vice versa. Three major shifts…does that make a trend? It is a pattern – perhaps it might develop into something interesting. Shift No. 1 is DENNISON HOWARD, a native of Colorado Springs, Born and raised in The Springs, one of the most beautiful places in the country, Dennison is a born storyteller. Started telling stories via his roll as a news cameraman. First at KRDO and then KOAA. He was exceptional behind the lens…was assigned to all the important projects. It wasn’t until his then-CSD SYDNEY RUBIN saw something special and brought him into her department. He loved it…flourished (she’s quite the instructor and mentor) and now he’s on his way to Seattle where he’ll be a writer producer for her team at KCPQ, Tribune’s Fox affiliate. I see a lot more seafood in his future and even more exciting work coming out of the station. He begins March 19. Well Dunne! Dennison.

Adventuresome, confident and adaptable – all hallmarks of those who, as BARRY FITZSIMMONS has dubbed, are Promo Cowboys – those who venture forth, town to town, to do creative work. Unlike some career choices, TV marketing doesn’t offer a career path that generally allows upward mobility without changing locations. But for those who love what they do, jumping into a new market…a new city…learning about different people and yourself at the same time. It’s all exhilarating. SYDNEY RUBIN is about to venture forth and embrace Seattle, where she’ll be News Brand Manager for Tribune’s Fox affil KCPQ. She’ll be working with Director of Marketing and Creative Services, BRETT AYRES as well as GM PAM PIERSON, who has a background in markting. It’s gonna be a lot of fun…and Seattle is going to see some amazing work thanks to Ms. Syd. And yes, she’ll still be available for Topical Boot Camps! It’s all good. And she’s the best. Heartfelt Well Dunne! Syd!
