COSMO LOSCO did fab promo when he worked as Creative Services Manager for FOX in DC and then as Promo Manager in Philly for NBC. Then he went out on his own and founded Innovation Media. Yeah, he’s that good. Now comes word on how good he is. Let’s let him tell the latest:  My company won Best in Philly in the 2017 readers choice awards in the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philly.com (announced tonight and special section comes out tomorrow in the paper and online) and I’m opening my first (small) production studio with a special focus on social media production for small business and startups. Well Dunne! Cosmo!

Rain. Rain. Go away. It’s the latest mantra for Well Dunne! Talent’s KELLY PIDGEON, who is dealing with yet another soggy clean up for his studio. What is it with tons of rain and recording studios? But, of course, Kelly never missed a single syllable for any of his clients. Yeah, he’s that wonderful.

Tribune’s ABC in Wilkes-Barre, PA, WNEP, was in the spotlight in HBO’s Last Week Tonight. Love that John Oliver. Seems they have a backyard train, which, if nothing else, received some very interesting feedback from viewers. Will check to see if it resulted in more PR, perhaps some ratings, and for sure it got some laughs.

JOSH COMBS moved from one ‘battleground state’ to another, leaving Florida for Ohio. His move and this post has nothing at all to do with politics, of course, but there ya go. It’s summer. We should all be poolside or in Michigan.  Anyway, Josh is the new head honcho of the branding, marketing, promo and creative department at Media General’s WCMH in Columbus, the heart of Ohio. Official title is Creative Services Director at the NBC affil. And he’ll shine at this. The slot’s been open quite some time, so Mr. Combs must have wowed them, which I bet he did. He’s coming from MG in Tampa, WFLA, where he was Promotion Manager. Josh has promo’d at Little Rock’s KLRT where he was CSD, at WBKI Louisville where he produced commercials and in the Florida Panhandle where he Marketing Director at WMBB. Now that he’s a dad, he’ll be closer to his roots and his alma mater, Indiana University Bloomington. One of his former bosses told me he was the most hard-working person he’s ever worked with. And He’s a great guy – what is it they used to say on SNL “Get to know me”… He deserves your whole hearted Well Dunne! Josh.

Timing is everything. Sometimes, timing doesn’t work in your favor. Well Dunne! Talent’s KELLY PIDGEON spent his birthday (yesterday if you’re reading this Thursday) in the ER. Not the celebration he had in mind. But it’s nothing life-threatening and he’ll be back at home, in great voice, ready to slide into his pool (yes, the man has a slide into his pool….THAT is so cool!) in no time. So let’s all send him a birthday wish and a Well Dunne!

Former promo pro ABIGAIL BALTHAZAR, who at one time did her thing as a promo and creative services producer for WESH in Orlando has a new video job…she’s at Convention News TV and she’s doing content. Content is king as we all know. Well Dunne! Abigail, who has the best smile.

Sarasota, Florida is like the American Riviera. Cannes with fried chicken and biscuits (head to Blue Rooster) and they have a film festival there as well. Working at that festival is just one of the many exciting creative endeavours that SCOTT FELSDENFELD has been part of and what caught the eye of CSD GAYLE BEATTY. She was on the hunt for someone who could add sparkle to her promotion efforts for WWSB. Scott sems the right choice; he’s the new Producer at the ABC affil south of the Sunshine Skyway. Scott is coming from Michigan, where he freelanced as well as did his part for WDIV. He’s done film, shot and generally learned the craft by doing all kinds of projects. He’s eager and has caught on so fast, it earns Mr. Scott a major Well Dunne!

A Christmas Story is set in northern Indiana, but in true Hollywood fashion, Ralphie’s house in the iconic holiday movie is actually on the west side of Cleveland. Perhaps TOM DUSKA will have time to drive by and see it when he isn’t doing his creative thing for Scripps’ ABC affil, WEWS. Tom is new to Cleveland – just finishing up his first week on the job as part of CSD DAN COYLE’s promo team. Tom’s official title is Multimedia Marketing Producer so he’ll be doing a lot of varied fun things with an emphasis on late news. He’s been working for WICU/WSEE, NBC and FOX in Erie, PA, handling technical and creative roles.  Originally a photojournalist, Tom later transitioned to graphic artist, eventually moved into promotions/production, and also worked as a technical director. Man does it all. I think it would be cool if he took a selfie at Ralphie’s – or took the whole promo team over there for a selfie…yeah? Yeah!  Well Dunne! Tom.

Have to share a gorgeous and touching holiday promo done up at Tegna’s Maine operation, Portland’s WCSH and Bangor’s WLBZ. By clicking here, you can see the spot conceived and written by MARK PARENT, Promo and Production Manager in Bangor, and edited by Creative Services Coordinator SAMANTHA HAMMOND. News Director MIKE REDDING was so moved by it, he posted it and said he was proud of a station that respects and welcomes all. MIKE MARSHALL, VP of Programming and Marketing at the stations is proud I know. Well Dunne! one and all.

Well Dunne! Talent’s KELLY PIDGEON is multi-talented. Besides his amazing voice, he’s a musician. Take a moment to listen to Boats Against The Current’s latest. (IQ points awarded if you know the name reference).

There’s the adage that goes something like this: a company can only show it values you through credit and or compensation. Very true in Hollywood, and not far from the mark everywhere else. It’s no wonder that stations are having a very difficult time keeping creative people when other lines of work offer more compensation. Makes sense actually (reference grocery prices). KELLI JONES is leaving the creative department of WTSP in the Tampa-St Pete market (CBS affil owned by Gannett) and is going to become involved in a new fulltime gig that will put a lot more green in her bank account, sans the stress and repetition. These stories are happening all the time. Kelli will be missed for sure. Well Dunne!

Having Doris Day and Clint Eastwood as ‘neighbors’ (well, kind of neighbors), plus a golf course that golfers dream of quite frequently…well, that isn’t too shabby. Salinas out California way is the business area for gorgeous Monterrey, Big Sur and Carmel, where Doris, Clint and the uber-golfers are. Again, not shabby in the least. Add to the mix ERIKA BRATTEN and you have a pretty exciting combo. Erika is the Promotion Manager at KION, the News-Press & Gazette owned CBS affil. Erika has had the pleasure of living in another fab locale – Colorado. Erika has a degree from Western State Colorado U and she’s not only modeled, she interned at KMGH in Denver. She’s been a Creative Producer at both KJCT and KREX in Grand Junction, and at KREX she was upped to CSD. Who could resist the gorgeous California coast? Well Dunne! Erika.

Erika’s not in Vegas this week, but KELLY PIDGEON is. Yes, he’s the adorable one with the great voice. Look for him!

PromaxBDA has a Promo Pathway and she participated in the year-long training. She’s a grad of marketing from Wilberforce U and no doubt loves working with the one and only Well Dunne! Follow your dreams. Everybody talks about this. Elvis even sang about it. When one finally does step up and follow their dream, or dreams as the case may be, it’s a sight to see. Today, we talk about those who have, indeed, stepped up.

First, there’s Well Dunne! Talent’s KELLY PIDGEON, who left a job he loved at CBS Radio in Pittsburgh. They did not want him to go. But he is taking the step to be his very own boss and do voice work fulltime. What that means is he’ll save nearly 3  maybe 4 or more hours a day (and a lot of cash for gas) working from his home studio. Of course, it means even better service for his stations, too. And more time with the gorgeous Mrs. Pidgeon (also named Kelly) and the little Pidgeon. Obviously, this is Well Dunne!

Second, we have a creative who has decamped San Diego and is in residence in Paris. No, not me (yet) but JASON “Jay” MALONEY, who was heading up creative at now-Scripps KGTV and before than out Denver way. With a fabulous pied-a-terre in Paris, he and his wife are exploring the continent. If that isn’t following a dream, well, there ya go. Well Dunne! Maloneys.

MICHELE JARVIS is a Midwest lady who is doing an amazing job in LA (despite the heat) and is tearin’ things up as Principal and Creative Director of 68 Pictures, the trailer/promo and design house. She’s been doing uber-creative things along the way, like being Director of Affiliate Marketing at FOX Broadcast group…and Creative Services Director at Indianapolis’ WXIN/WTTV…and producing some of those eye catching and award winning spots WBNS is noted for. All from her first TV gig at WREG in Memphis. Michele, you deserve a well crafted and well earned Well Dunne!

OK, let’s see who was paying attention. Raise your hand if you know about Area 51. Good…you’re aware. So, did anybody see the KLAS TV story about Area 51? Amazing…KLAS broke the Area 51 story and the rest is…well, you know. Uber super cool. Just in case you missed it, Catch it here…and btw, that is indeed Well Dunne! What comes to mind when you read Indiana, PA?  Some of you film buffs may answer ‘it’s James Stewart’s home town’ and you would, of course, be correct. He actually has a museum there. OK, so it’s Jimmy’s hometown. I’ll bet you didn’t know its also home to not one, not two, but three very cool TV creative people. Yes, from a town numbering about 14,000 souls, three are doing TV marketing. First is SHERRY CARPENTER, CSD at Post Newsweek’s WJXT. Second is Well Dunne! Talent’s KELLY PIDGEON; his voice is one you hear all over the place from his Pittsburgh KDKA studio or from Indiana PA itself where his studio is located. The hat trick is JIM THOMAS, the VP of Local Programming and Marketing for the Journal Broadcast Group. Jim is going to start a new chapter in his life when he joins Magid as head of their marketing efforts. I’ll get the official title one of these days. Just know he’s a peach. All three are fabulous…says a lot. Mr. T gets a shout out and a Well Dunne! along with a Well Dunne! to Indiana PA itself.

It’s really the American Dream personified. From intern to President of a huge company in eight years.  Sounds like a movie script, but it’s the real life of JOE TAMANINI,  recently promoted to President of Studio City, the branding marketing company, in Studio City, the town in the LA Valley. The small town Pennsylvania kid was first Intern, then Production Editor, then Head of Creative Department, then VP and now, the big chair. Joe studied Broadcasting at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. Obviously, he paid attention. A great big Well Dunne! Joe.

Friday was a busy one for Well Dunne!’s KELLY PIDGEON, who had to bug out of the KDKA Spaghetti Breakfast to cover the hostage situation in Pittsburgh. The same one that kept the folks at KDKA-TV holed up in their station. TINA VEON, CSD of the TV side, was Facebooking the day, proving that social media is indeed changing how a story unfolds. Kelly was the first on the scene and kept the info coming, even with spaghetti sauce on his hands. Can you imagine what people thought of that – the spaghetti sauce, not the info.

LAURA GIACALONE started her career as an NBC Page. Just like out of the storyline. She’s now the VP of Marketing for Discovery Fit & Health net. The Catholic University of America grad has really worked her way up the ladder and done the most interesting things, like be Manager of Acquisitions and Co-Productions for Focus Features and work at AOL Moviefone. Her resume also includes Director of Marketing at Sundance Channel. She’s based in NYC. Well Dunne! Laura.

DAVID ANGEHRN is too young to be considered Senior, except in his new title of Senior Vice President of Marketing at LA-based G4. Definition 6 has news. They’re the cool-o Atlanta & NYC marketing agency and they have two new hires to crow about. MARIBETH PHILLIPS is now the Executive Producer and JOHN SEXTON is the new Interactive Creative Director. They’re both gonna office in The Apple. Maribeth comes over from Imaginary Forces where she was Managing Director and EP. Before that she was with Lee Hunt, then it became Razorfish. The William and Mary grad has also studied at Parsons School of Design and she’s done work for a whole lot of networks, cable nets, etc. John has been freelancing at the top agencies, working for clients like  Nissan, FedEx and more. He’s also been VP Interactive Creative Director and VP Associate Creative Director at Grey Healthcare and Saatchi and Saatchi Wellness. He’s got a sheepskin from Columbia College in Chicago. Well Dunne! Maribeth and John. Give my regards to FRANK RADICE.

It’s the same only way different….that’s probably how ADAM STOTSKY is explaining his new role at G4. Last August, Adam departed his slot as President of Marketing at NBC Entertainment out in LA. Just today, he was tapped to be General Manager of G4, NBCU’s video game-centric media outlet. The West Virginia U grad has held executive marketing slots at Discovery and SyFy, where he was EVP Global Brand Strategy and Market Development back when it was called SciFi. Well Dunne! Adam.

During the holiday break, Well Dunne! Talent’s NICK SANABRIA blew some candles out on his latest birthday cake….and  RICH VANSLYKE was all over TV with his new spots for Ethan Allen. Just love my guys (and girls).

Meanwhile, one of their news photogs, JIMMY MOORE, is undergoing spinal surgery following an accident on I-85. Sending best healing wishes to Jimmy. I’m sure you’ll all agree.

Belated birthday wishes to KELLY PIDGEON, the wonderful voice actor who just signed his first ABC affiliate. Here to many more – birthdays!

If you love tennis, golf, bicycling, walking along the ocean, nice people, amazing weather and pelicans, then Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. is right up your alley.  PVB, as it is known to the locals, is just north of Ste. Augustine, America’s oldest city. PVB is also part of the Jacksonville FL market. I mention it because Jacksonville’s got a new resident who is a pro at TV marketing. Put out the welcome mat for SHERRY CARPTENTER, the new Creative Services Director at Post Newsweek’s WJXT. Sherry is arriving in the palm tree laden town just in time to enjoy the 80 degree days. Back in Pittsburgh, where she had been CSD at WTAE, the high will reach somewhere in the low 30;s…and there is snow. Good exchange.  Ms. Sherry has done that TV promo thing in northern markets like Cincinnati and Cleveland. She’s going to LOVE the south. She hails from Indiana, Pennsylvania, home to Well Dunne! Talent’s KELLY PIDGEON. Coincidence? There are no coincidences…it all means something.  Well Dunne! Sherry.

Job Alert: NICK ALLARD needs a promo producer. Here’s the deets:
If your idea of effective news promotion starts with a slow push in on talent – please, skip to the next ad.

If you think that social media is just a flash in the pan, you’ll probably want to look somewhere else.

And, if you think that there’s an “I” in teamwork, well, quite frankly, you need to learn how to spell!

If you’re ready, however, to be a part of a department that is a true creative team and have proven that you work and think outside of the box, please read on!  It just might be your time to shine!

KCCI-TV, a Hearst Television station and CBS affiliate in Des Moines, IA, has an immediate opening for its next creative promotion superstar.  This promo powerhouse should be an extremely creative and energetic promotion writer/producer with a strong video skill set and a passion for news.  After all, you will be part of the team responsible for aggressively promoting Des Moines’ #1 News product and its station programming.
You must be able to take a spot from concept to air (script writing, field and studio shooting, non-linear editing and post production.) You will be working with the creative and talented staff at KCCI to produce station image spots, news and programming tune-in spots, non-traditional news topicals and other station production as needed.

Ideally, you will have 2-3 years of broadcast experience in either news or advertising.  You must have strong Adobe CS skills – After Effects, Photoshop and Premiere is an absolute must.  3-D compositing and other graphic design experience is a huge plus. You must have a creative flair, be able to multi-task and be able to work effectively under tight deadlines.

So, what do you think? Are you ready to take your career to the next level?
