There must be a wonderful southern expression that covers the terrific news out of Meredith that kicked off the week. I think the closest one is ‘that just dills my pickle’ meaning it’s all good. Meredith promoted not one, not two but three (!) wonderful marketing women (!) to Station Manager slots. Well Dunne! to TERRI PECK at Las Vegas’ KVVU, BLANCA ESPARZA-PAP at KPHO/KTVK in Phoenix and COREY HANSON at KPDX/KPTV in Portland, Oregon. All three lovely ladies are smarter than room allows and are now going to use the insight and background they have honed doing creative marketing to really lead. Could not be happier. Who at Meredith made that decision? Gold star to you. Great way to start a week. Again, Well Dunne! ladies.

Between haboobs, which are dust storms for those who thought otherwise, there was some great news out of the one and only Phoenix. RONDA WHITE took a new route to work, got new business cards, a new office and a new job with a new station, dust be day-umed. Always so much fun to write about Texans. She’s a Dallas lady who lived in Richardson and got her degree from Oklahoma U (how did she survive TU-OU weekend?).  She rose through the ranks at WFAA, smartly choosing the promo department and before heading west she was Promotion Director down on Young St. Taking I-20 west she joined  KPNX as Executive Producer – Social Media and was named Brand Manager for the NBC affil owned by Tegna. She’s been at Meredith’s KPHO and KTVK a few months and sounds like she’s not letting any haboobs dim her smile. Well Dunne! Ronda.

Job Alert – Marketing Producer WLBT Jackson MS

WLBT-TV, Raycom Media’s dominant NBC affiliate in Jackson, MS is seeking a full-time Marketing Producer. Do you love commercials? Promos? Can you tell a compelling story with top notch writing, cutting edge visuals and eye-catching graphics…in about 30 seconds?  We are looking for a visionary that can create effective commercials and promos from scratch, be able to work under tight deadlines, possess excellent problem solving skills and communicate with internal staff and external clients throughout each phase of every project. Not only will you be working on the WLBT platforms, we also provide marketing services for our SSA partner, Fox 40 WDBD. This person will be expected to be a team player and take part in all aspects of promotion and marketing…plus you’ll have opportunities to produce those longer pieces to really show off what you can do (exclusive online only content anyone?).  From commercials to promos to digital content…if you’re a triple-threat then you need to apply and be sure to send a link showing off your work (we just can’t take your word for it).

Here are a few things the ideal candidate will have: experience with non-linear editing software (we use Adobe products around here), experience shooting in studio and in the field, experience with shooting on DSLR, strong writing skills, knowledge of proper lighting and audio techniques.  Website content management and social media marketing experience is a plus. Must be available to work flexible hours as needed (you just never know with TV…). Must have a clean driving record and pass a drug screening test.  Qualified applicants, please apply online and attach resume with cover letter, and a link to your most recent work.  No phone calls please.  EOE-M/F/D/V Applications for employment are now submitted electronically. Think About This:  “There’s a trick to the ‘graceful exit.’ It begins with the vision to recognize when a job, a life stage, or a relationship is over — and let it go. It means leaving what’s over without denying its validity or its past importance to our lives. It involves a sense of future, a belief that every exit line is an entry, that we are moving up, rather than out.”  ~ Ellen Goodman

There are days when things go as planned, and then there are days when one wonders if the universe is so out of sorts, it might be The End. That being said, let’s also add that, once a car runs out of gas, it isn’t really easy to steer well. Same with mental acuity…after a day of heavy mental lifting, is there really any point in forcing the brain to perform?  As happened yesterday, a late night brain fog can really muck things up. No smarty pants, alcohol was not involved. Soon- to-be Tucson resident GENE ROBINSON is leaving Phoenix TV, the Meredith station KPHO. Had the wrong station yesterday, so there you are. Still sending Well Dunne! to Gene.

Speaking of Phoenix, one of the best Art Directors around is CHRIS AYERS, who is doing the creative thing for Right This Minute, the syndicated show out of Magic Dust TV – in Phoenix. He has a very cool podcast, On the Grid . For Phoenix  peeps.

Job Alert – Sr. Producer KTVU Oakland/SF (Erik Candiani your boss = great!)

Not so gentle reminder that Well Dunne! Talent handles the best voice talent for any and all projects. Why the best? Because nobody else who places voices has ever produced a promo, trailer, interstitial, show or resulting awards. Yeah. So these voices are producer-picked. So what are you waiting for?

Think About This"The outer path we take is public knowledge, but the path with heart is an inner one. The two come together when who we are that is seen in the world coincides with who we deeply are. As we grow wiser, we become aware that the important forks in the road are usually not about choices that will show up on any public record; they are decisions and struggles to do with choosing love or fear; anger or forgiveness; pride or humility. They are soul-shaping choices."  ~  Jean Shinoda Bolen

Paul McCartney only has one vacation home. It’s in Tucson. Yes, Tucson is THAT wonderful. And come the end part of March, it’s where GENE ROBINSON and familia will be calling home. He’s another creative who’s taking leave of the affiliate TV biz, turning in his key at TEGNA’s KPNX, the NBC affil in the Valley of the Sun where he’s been Brand Manager. He’s also wrangled brand for indie KTVK, which is TEGNA. He’ll be clocking in at the University of Arizona where he’ll be Director of Marketing and Communications for Arizona Public Media.  Yes, that is a PBS affiliate, but let’s not spit hairs. Gene has the most gorgeous family – a lucky man indeed. He’s lived in Sacramento and worked at the Hearst station there and then spent two years as Director of TV Communications for the California Highway Patrol in the Cali capital. Here’s a big Well Dunne! Gene!
