No secret that Big D…Dallas, Texas, has long been a muy favorite locale. Now a muy favorite lady is headed there to work for The Bandit himself. Translation: Dallas rocks as does SMU. JORDANA HOUCHINS is Dallas-bound to work for DAVID HERSHEY, aka The Bandit, in the creative department of KTVT, CBS in the aforementioned north Texas market. She’ll be writing and producing and she’ll love the News Director, ANDREA PARQUET-TAYLOR.  Jordana is going to leave the bright lights of LA behind when she heads east. While in LA, she produced promos for KNBC and KABC as well as KTLA. She also was Creative Director for the Queen Latifah Show via Studio City. The University of Washington student kicked off her TV career in Houston before going back to the Pacific Northwest where she promo’ed at KING and KCPQ. Let’s not forget her Charlotte NC slot at FOX. She’s going to have a blast and do work that the Metroplex will enjoy. Way to go Jordana. Watch out all you Texas bachelors…the blonde is landing soon. Well Dunne!

When a CSD refers to the people on the creative team as family, you know immediately it’s a great shop…one where individual creativity is honored and micromanagement isn’t even in the vocabulary. Such is KTVT, the CBS station in Dallas. When VP DAVID HERSHEY went on the hunt for a writer-producer, he knew that, besides having to add to his work family, patience was going to be in order, and he was right. It paid off. Come December 7, they will welcome TARYN JONES to the 11/21 creative team, as they dub themselves. Taryn is moving up from KEYE in Austin where, in addition to her marketing duties, she also handled entertainment reporting. The San Diego area native attended Arizona State and has worked in Tuscon at KGUN as well as for Journal Broadcasting’s radio group. Well Dunne! Taryn, newest KTVT family member.

If one is good, and two is twice as good, then three is over the moon. Three is the magic number for WJXT’s CSD SHERRY CARPENTER, who has added some fab talent to her team in Jacksonville. We’ll let her and her new hires take over (I’ll put my feet up and fix a margarita today…bonus!):

BRANDON LINK: “I hail from WVVA! A station tucked away in Southern WV. I went from Master control, Commercial producer to Promotion manager in a little under 2 years. Before I stumbled into TV, I played football for the Pittsburgh Power in the AFL (Arena football league). I am originally from Cumberland, MD. I’ve been playing guitar for 12 years, and I have a 4 yr old black lab/pit mix named Nina! I’m probably the biggest/scariest looking Promotion Producer in the country!”  (Take what you like from that. Haha.)

STUART BOSLOW is the new Executive Producer of a daily talk and entertainment show on WJXT, launching later this year. Stuart joined the station from Dallas, where he launched a talk and lifestyle show at KTXD. Previously he was Senior Special Projects Producer at KTVT.

Just hired today, as in Tuesday! RYAN DOLBY was our intern, and was hired to help support production of 3 weekly Jacksonville Jaguars shows. As the official station of our NFL Franchise team, folks in creative services help produce the coaches show, Everbank Jaguars Gameday, and Jaguars All Access.  Ryan has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Concentration in production from University of North Florida.

Job Alert – Sherry and Stuart are working frantically to hire 7 more people– co-hosts, MMJ’s, producers, bookers and tech support. Check out Graham Media’s WJXT’s job postings.

Sincere condolences to PHIL KRAFT, Senior Creative Producer for KGTV in San Diego, on the loss of his Grandmother.

EXCELLENT read…BILL HARTNETT’s blog entitled Social TV Grows Up and Gets Real.

Changes are as hot as the temps…tomorrow we tell about the new CSD at WNCN in Raleigh and have great news about a favorite with a syndicated show. And the already promised details on the lovely new KXAN CSD will be forthcoming. Plus a real find for DAVID HERSHEY at KTVT. Come back – bring salt.

Oh, this is the 1625th post of WDT’s focus on the people of TV marketing. How fast the children grow…

Let’s end the firecracker month of July with a lot going on all at once. First, we turn our attention to the elegant Palm Beach market and news the Sinclair stations there, WPEC/WTVX/WTCN, have a new Commercial Production Manager. Enter LARRY DOYLE come August 10. Give the GM there, MICHAEL PUMO, a gold star for recognizing talent. Larry will be part of the station team that includes CSD JAMES GRIFFEL so the excitement level is going to be very high. Anyway, the writer here has worked for and with Larry and he’s utterly creative. Palm Beach clients are in for a treat. Mr. Doyle of the Irish name and visage has been CSD at Tampa’s WFLA as well as WTSP in addition to leading creative at WCNC in Charlotte plus writing and producing for KHOU in Houston. He’s from New Hampshire which adds to his elan. Best part of the new gig is he’ll be close to his college bound daughter, soon to be a freshman in the Sunshine State. Well Dunne! Larry.

Next up, another fave is DAVID HERSHEY heading up CBS’ KTVT in Dallas. He’s filled a critical slot and with that, we’ll let him take over:  I’m happy to announce that RHETT SCHWARTZKOPF has been promoted to Senior Promotion Producer for CBS 11, TXA 21 and Me-TV.  I first met Rhett almost 10 years ago when he was a student at UNT.  I was speaking to his class about this crazy, little known department of misfits called ‘Creative Services’.  He came up to me afterwards and said ‘THAT is exactly what I want to do.’  From there, he earned an internship in our department.  Eventually, he moved up to being part of our UPN 21 ‘U-Crew’ street team  (remember that?).  He worked his way up to producing promo spots for us full-time and that’s what he’s been doing for us ever since.  Recently, he was also our station Employee of the Month.  Rhett’s incredible skills, creativity, can-do attitude and work ethic make him a tremendous asset to our stations and I’m thrilled to have him on my team in this new role.  Well Dunne! Rhett. PS – not related to General S that we know of….

Finally, last but not least, KXAN in Austin has promoted NATALIA EGAN to CSD. More info on her Monday. Watch this space.

Sometimes, the perfect job meets and meshes with ‘perfect needs’; not just money or creative freedom, but family needs that trump most everything else. When you get an ideal slot and it combines with your ‘perfect needs’, then ya’ll, you have hit the jackpot. Those ‘ding, ding, ding’ jackpot sounds are going off for J.R. VANWASSENHOVE, who is a Columbus, Ohio native and is returning to be the Promotions Manager for WBNS, the Dispatch-owned CBS affil. He’ll be with family, and that’s very important to him because his dad has been battling an ongoing disease, and being close will make all the difference. J.R. is going to hate leaving WLWT, Hearst’s NBC affil in Cincinnati, where he’s done attention-getting work as a Sr. writer producer. He’s a Full Sail guy who can do it all, shoot, edit, design, write and produce, which he’s done for such operations as WINK in Ft. Myers, FOX in Orlando, WXIA in Atlanta and Fox Sports South. So very happy to hear about this particular move, so let’s send Papa healing thoughts when we send out a Well Dunne! to J.R.

KTVT promo pro JAMES GRIMSBY is heading back to Phoenix, where his lovely and brilliant wife will be doing her doctor thing. Sounds like great news for everybody but CSD David Hershey, who is looking for two top notch promo peeps.

JASON PALLANTE is all excited about next Monday. That’s the day he begins as Associate Director of On-Air Promos for Fox Sports South. Between now and then, he has to say goodbye to the creative team at KTVT in Dallas, where he’s been devising hot and award-winning promos under CSD DAVID HERSHEY. The Boston U grad (he’s a proud Terrier) started his career at WTEN in Albany, which is his hometown (officially from Schenectady – bonus points for those who know that’s an Iroquois word…double bonus and a free tequila shot if you know what it means) and has worked at WCNC, Belo in Charlotte. He’s a man who loves sports and is thrilled to have what is considered the gold ring job for men who loves sports and do TV. Give me a W..E…L…L  DUNNE! Hurray for Jason.

Austin, Texas is a pretty cool market. Not temperature-wise, of course. It’s actually gotten hotter over the years per the weather folks. But Austin is tres cool for most everything else. It’s where LORENA H lives and where she is going to stay, what with a super little boy and a hubby there and all. She’s leaving her Promo Manager slot at KTBC, the FOX station in the Texas capital, and she’ll be hanging out her freelance sign, which will leave her more time to enjoy said little boy and hubby. She’s a talented one she is, so take note. Call her. Use her. You’ll be thrilled. Well Dunne! Lorena. And for those who want to know exactly who she is, email me. We’re sidestepping some very nasty trolls who should be ashamed of themselves.

That thing you read about, write about, think about, in fact fantasize about.
