You’ve all heard of the brass ring…well, this is about the gold ring. Grabbing it is CSD ALEX SHAW who heads up the marketing arm of WPEC, Sinclair’s Palm Beach CBS affil. In just shy of a week, his new Promotion Manager is going to check in, and that is the gold ring in discussion. The good folks at the station will be welcoming BARRY FITZSIMMONS to the fold, and they couldn’t have found someone who’ll bring more talent and zip than Barry. Plus they’ve gotten themselves a man with a wonderful sense of humor. Let’s fact it…a sense of humor is as important as oxygen in today’s world. Many of you know Barry by his author and podcast name, the Promo Cowboy. It’s a novel as well as a Must Hear..his iTunes podcast Promo Cowboys. Do it. The Boston U grad has worked promo magic at NBC, MSNBC, ONE World Sports and ESPN as well as ABC, MLB, etc. NYC has a lot of great work done by Barry (and folks who are Promo Cowboys). He’ll be a real asset to Alex and will be working with fun talented LARRY DOYLE, who knows a thing or two about what makes poppin’ TV. See you all soon…it is The Seaon you know. Well Dunne! Barry.

Let’s end the firecracker month of July with a lot going on all at once. First, we turn our attention to the elegant Palm Beach market and news the Sinclair stations there, WPEC/WTVX/WTCN, have a new Commercial Production Manager. Enter LARRY DOYLE come August 10. Give the GM there, MICHAEL PUMO, a gold star for recognizing talent. Larry will be part of the station team that includes CSD JAMES GRIFFEL so the excitement level is going to be very high. Anyway, the writer here has worked for and with Larry and he’s utterly creative. Palm Beach clients are in for a treat. Mr. Doyle of the Irish name and visage has been CSD at Tampa’s WFLA as well as WTSP in addition to leading creative at WCNC in Charlotte plus writing and producing for KHOU in Houston. He’s from New Hampshire which adds to his elan. Best part of the new gig is he’ll be close to his college bound daughter, soon to be a freshman in the Sunshine State. Well Dunne! Larry.

Next up, another fave is DAVID HERSHEY heading up CBS’ KTVT in Dallas. He’s filled a critical slot and with that, we’ll let him take over:  I’m happy to announce that RHETT SCHWARTZKOPF has been promoted to Senior Promotion Producer for CBS 11, TXA 21 and Me-TV.  I first met Rhett almost 10 years ago when he was a student at UNT.  I was speaking to his class about this crazy, little known department of misfits called ‘Creative Services’.  He came up to me afterwards and said ‘THAT is exactly what I want to do.’  From there, he earned an internship in our department.  Eventually, he moved up to being part of our UPN 21 ‘U-Crew’ street team  (remember that?).  He worked his way up to producing promo spots for us full-time and that’s what he’s been doing for us ever since.  Recently, he was also our station Employee of the Month.  Rhett’s incredible skills, creativity, can-do attitude and work ethic make him a tremendous asset to our stations and I’m thrilled to have him on my team in this new role.  Well Dunne! Rhett. PS – not related to General S that we know of….

Finally, last but not least, KXAN in Austin has promoted NATALIA EGAN to CSD. More info on her Monday. Watch this space.

Ah, New England. The trees will soon be so gorgeously colorful visitors from all over the world will be driving about, proud to be known as Leaf Peepers. Two TV promo pros from New England have recently met – and the results will be evident in Florida, not the northeast. Salem State (as in Salem Mass) College grad SUZANNE STONEFIELD is headed to the Tampa market to work for New Hampshire’s own LARRY DOYLE (CSD) at WTSP, Gannett’s CBS affil. Suzanne will depart Seattle where she had been at KIRO and will soon be ready to winter (a verb in Florida) amongst the palms while writing and producing promos. WTSP is across from a dog track and an amazing seafood place in St. Petersburg, which is across the bridge from Tampa proper. Nice. Suzanne has also worked in Portland, Maine at WGME as well as Raycom’s WMBF in Myrtle Beach. She loves her some TV and, no doubt, lobsters. Predictions are for some wicked good new promos at WTSP. Thanks Larry and Well Dunne! Suzanne.

Not to forgive is to yield oneself to another’s control… to be locked into a sequence of act and response, of outrage and revenge, tit for tat, escalating always. Larry has tapped DAN TROTTER to be the 10 News Social Media Manager. Dan transitions over from the News Department. Bet he loves the creative side even more. According to Larry, Mr. Dan does a fantastic job! Well Dunne! Dan.

Hope you had clear skies filled with beautiful fireworks to celebrate the 4th. Speaking of the weather…Sunny days and palmy nights are a staple in the life of LARRY DOYLE, who has been weaving his creative services magic down Tampa way for the last ten years or so. And the forecast is for more of the same – he’s exiting his CSD slot at MG’s flagship NBC affil WFLA for the CSD slot across the bay at Gannett’s CBS affil WTSP in St. Petersburg. You know this is all Florida, right? Wonder if Larry will take the Howard Franklin instead of the Gandy when he commutes…passing pelicans sitting on every piling despite the choice. Makes a commute enchanting. Larry’s a great guy who was at WCNC in Charlotte as well as KHOU in Houston and in Boston. He’s a New Hampshire guy originally and always brings a smile when you talk with him. Shout out to his lovely wife. Great news…Well Dunne! Larry.

Staying in Florida, especially this time of the year, is not too shabby. Staying on the Gulf Coast is even better. What lucky writer producer gets to do this, as well as going to work for a great CSD? If you answered SHANDRA JACKSON-BOHLEY, then give yourself a gold star. Shandra is now doing that creative thing for LARRY DOLYE at Media General’s flagship WFLA, which literally sits right on the water in downtown Tampa. True, the water isn’t the Gulf, it’s the Hillsborough River, and thanks for pointing that out. Back to Shandra, who has made the switch from her writer producer slot at WBBH/WZVN in Ft. Myers, just down 75. Shandra has worked in Florida in West Palm at WPEC, in Miami at NBC6 and even for the City of Coral Gables. Well Dunne! Shandra.

Did anybody down in Miami score a  Panthers yarmulke? The giveaway was a PR nightmare for the hockey team, but it made me realize no wardrobe is complete or chic without one. And yes, that IS indeed Well Dunne! Talent’s MITCH PHILLIPS whose booming pipes make the game even more festive.

Well Dunne! to two promo writers who just got named nominees for the Writers Guild of America Awards for On-Air Promotion. Let’s hear it for ANNE DE VEGA of CBS, nominated for her work on CSI Promos. And for 19 year veteran JENNIFER KAAS for her work on NBC News promos.

PROMAXbda has chosen bpg to be their marketing agency of record. Cool. LA-based bpg, which offices at The Grove, handles some high profile clients like Bravo, GSN, Oxygen, and Tennis Channel. Their goal is to keep all members involved 365…sounds like a Well Dunne! idea.

This must be a fun slot – working as an Animator and graphic artist at WFLA in Tampa. Why? Well, to begin with, the Art Director is the hilarious PAUL HELLEBUSH and the CSD is the talented LARRY DOYLE, that’s why. Throw in their bayside new building and those palm trees and…hello, it’s Florida. Taking that artistic space is DANNY BROCK. Don’t know much about him…they are keeping him busy. But Well Dunne! anyway.

Remember the old positioning line, “ a Coke and a smile”? Well, the folks at Coke are doing an, uh, interesting online marketing campaign. Do you want to find your online twin via facial profiling? (Confession – I think this is creepy…what about you?)
