Denver and San Diego seem like very different places with little in common. Where Denver, the Mile High city, boasts winter sports and incredible mountains, San Diego is Oceanside with the best climate in the country. Yet both are vibrant, young-people towns swimming in high tech and entrepreneurs. They’re also two markets that JILLIAN OPPEGARD has on her resume, what with her new job and all.  The end of February, Jillian is going to KGTV, the Scripps ABC operation in SD to be the Marketing Manager. She’s been in Denver at CBS’s KCNC as Senior Creative Services Producer and considers Centennial, Colorado home, even though she was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She is gonna love working with KGTV’s PHIL KRAFT – they both report to LEILA STILLWELL. Thanks to Marshall Advertising’s LAUREN RIDGLEY for the scoop. Big Well Dunne! Jillian.

Well Dunne! to the entire WDAM TV family who did Pine Belt Strong, a full day telethon to raise money for the victims of the devastating tornadoes that hit the Hattisburg, Laurel Mississippi area.  Marketing Director ERIK SNELL announced they raised $200,000 as of 8 pm (when this was written) but there’s still three hours to go. Well Dunne! generous and caring Mississippi citizens.

It’s Groundhog Day as you know, so, if you haven’t decided to make it a great day, then at least muddle through and watch Bill Murray so you can lighten up.

When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.” ― John Lennon

LAUREN RIDGLEY does not let grass grow under her feet. She’s no longer full-time station side where she headed marketing like she did at WISN in Milwaukee, but her marketing talents are not sitting in idle. As if being mom to a most adorable little girl under the age of 1 isn’t enough, she’s now working with Marshall Advertising, the folks who handle media buying for many stations. So when Lauren reaches out to you, reach back! Lady is fabulous. Lauren will stay in the Northwest, but isn’t it lovely we can all work from where we are most of the time now. Yes it is. Well Dunne, Lauren!

Horribly destructive weekend in the south. Tornadoes in many places. ERIK SNELL and his family had a very close call with a damaging twister. All is well with the Snells but not so with their neighbors. He’s the CSD at Raycom’s WDAM in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Tomorrow, great news from WPEC in West Palm.

When the email from former CSD LAUREN RIDGLEY popped into the Inbox, it seemed like it would be about her adventures as a new mom to an adorable little one. Well, it kinda was, in a way. Lauren sounded like a proud parent of sorts in sharing the news that LACY LEVASSEUR got named Promotion Manager at ABC affil WSOC in Charlotte. Lauren hired Lacy out of a Palm Springs station to come work at Hearst’s WISN in Milwaukee and the rest is, as the old expression goes, history. From Milwaukee, Lacy was off to the Queen City where she wrote and produced and now has been named to her first management title. Isn’t it great to hear a ‘former boss’ (or better yet let’s say mentor) call you brilliant?! Ms. Lacy is on a well deserved vacay at the moment, with her two adorable little ones who pop up on WSOC promos now and then) but would tell us she’s a Michigan State grad. All happiness and a sweet Well Dunne!

One little one who used to be in WCNC promos left for college this weekend. How is that even possible? Well Dunne! Rose Vermette, whose father GREG VERMETTE is my all time favorite and is holding down the creative fort in Philadelphia at Center City Film and Video.

If one has to distill the focus of the NYC PROMAX, it would have to be: change is everything, content is still king, and all the basics of marketing translate to making the ‘new’ delivery platform messages work. Like in the beginning of TV in the early 50’s, products and even people are creating their own channels using different platforms. Technology available to all is taking the place of expensive equipment that was once only available  in large markets. Hot, Flat and Crowded is right. “Creativity democratized” is how Pepsi’s ADAM HARDER termed it.

Oishii Creative was a standout as the Design Partner of the Conference. Their work is fresh, modern, young and memorable. One of the faves is on the landing page today…this particular Dare To took extra effort to post, but well worth it. Back to Oishii Creative – they are LA-based and you need to put them on your radar. Well Dunne! Oishii. Thanks for sharing this very cool Dare To piece!

In Vegas? Sit a spell and cool down. While you’re there, look for Well Dunne! Talent’s RICH VANSLYKE, voice man fabuloso. And SYDNEY RUBIN who can tell you all about how Topical Boot Camp can make a difference in your station….find both and do it now!

The lovely LAUREN RIDGLEY, late of CSD-ship at WISN in Milwaukee, hasn’t stopped producing since she stepped away from every day TV. She just pivoted a bit and is now the proud mother of the most adorable little package of baby goodness. She and her hubby could not be more delighted. Sugar and spice and everything nice for you! Well Dunne!

Things are hot in Charlotte at the moment. You have the Panthers ready to take their nearly perfect season to the Super Bowl…and you have a new Promotion Manager and Senior Producer over at Cox’s ABC affil WSOC.  TIM RICE is the man with the Promo plan having come out of NBC’s KXAS in DFW where he was Sr. Producer. The Washington State grad, now on the east side of the Mississippi, has worked all over the country so he must have adventure in his blood. From Columbia, SC (so close to Charlotte) to Yakima, Washington, he’s been creative and technical at the same time. Well Dunne! Tim.

Besides being mom to two absolutely adorable little ones, LACY LEVASSSEUR has been promoted to Senior Producer for WSOC. Yes, that’s her in the helicopter on a recent shoot. The Michigan State Spartan learned her craft at KESQ out in Palm Springs and then under the lovely LAUREN RIDGLEY at WISN in Milwaukee. Well Dunne! Lacy.

While the east coast is hunkering down (got your wine and cookies?) for a lot of snow, the creative department at Hearst’s WISN in Milwaukee is getting ready for the arrival of their new Assistant Creative Services Director, due February 1. Another excuse for wine and cookies! Whose name is CSD SCOTT HUTCHCROFT putting on the new office sign? HOLLY ROMERO. Ms. Holly is finishing up now as Marketing Manager of WTNZ, Raycom’s FOX affil in Knoxville. The University of Arizona grad worked in Tucson at Raycom’s KOLD, where she used both her creative as well as technical talents, doing marketing production and TDing newscasts. Gonna be a good February in Milwaukee. Thanks Scott and Well Dunne! Holly.

Speaking of WISN….and the timing couldn’t be more opportune…comes word of former WISN CSD LAUREN RIDGLEY, who moved back to Portland, Oregon in the fall. She’s circled July 4 of this year, but not for the fireworks. That’s when her first little one arrives and she adds the title Mom to her resume. Congratulations!

Everybody loves LAUREN RIDGLEY, and when she left WISN in Milwaukee it left an empty chair in her CSD office. Producers are harder and harder to find. So when one has need to replace a Producer, it’s always good news when the difficult task falls into place quickly. It did for LAUREN RIDGLEY, CSD at Hearst’s ABC affil WISN in Milwaukee. She lucked out and has replaced JON HELM (who moved to Hearst’s WTAE in Pittsburgh as #2 to CSD TRACY ACCORD OLIVER – you read about it here) with someone who is already sitting at his new desk. Producer DAN COAD is a Midwestener, hailing from Rockford, IL originally. He comes to WISN from Scripps/Journal’s WTMJ in the same market. At WTMJ., he was involved in a variety of projects, promo and commercial production. Dan has been into TV promo since his days in college at Illinois State. There, he was Creative Services Manager for the school’s TV-10 News…a title they created for him and woke up to the importance of marketing. Good idea TV-10. Dan also worked in his hometown at Gray’s CBS affil WFIR. Let’s start spring out with an enthusiastic Well Dunne! Dan.

Something to ponder. Phoned a media outlet in London and was treated with such intelligent warmth and friendliness, they garnered a ‘fan for life’ as well as a receptive business partner. Happened not once but several times with UK and Irish outlets. How long has it been since you could say the same for a media call on this side of the Atlantic?

He won’t be on the job until April 13th, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to send out the word about JON HELM, who has been named Assistant Creative Services Director at Pittsburgh’s WTAE, the Hearst-owned ABC affil. Mr. Helm will be moving east from Milwaukee’s WISN, where he’s been honing his creative and leadership chops under wonderful CSD LAUREN RIDGLEY. The U of Wisconsin – Oshkosh grad is going to love his new boss, fabulous CSD TRACY ACORD OLIVER, who brilliantly pointed out Jon is quick to smile and is quite the cameraman in addition to all his other plusses. Mr. and Mrs. Helm have their hands full at the moment, but let’s send out a hearty Well Dunne!

Knoxville’s loss is Milwaukee’s gain. Specifically we’re talking about native Iowan SCOTT HUTCHCROFT, the new Assistant Creative Services Director at Hearst’s ABC affil WISN in Brew City. It’s a step up for Scott, who was a Sr. Promo Producer at WVLT, Gray TV’s CBS affil. He has his degree from Western Illinois U and honed his promo chops at Colorado Springs’ Fox affil KXRM. He hasn’t started yet, but CSD LAUREN RIDGLEY is looking forward to his first day, Aug 5. Scott and his wife will be closer to family and will be bringing their two dogs to their new home city. Well Dunne! Scott.

Scooting through the Midwest between blizzards (sidebar – get apology from that nasty little groundhog up in Pennsylvania who promised spring) is the relatively daunting task facing a TV creative who’s “one to watch”.  LACY LEVASSEUR is the traveler in question. She has traversed a route from Hearst’s WISN in Milwaukee to Cox’s WSOC in Charlotte. Along for the journey is Lacy’s hubby and her 7 month old daughter, Perry. Ms. Lacy will continue to do her fab creative promo writing and producing in The Queen City but will miss WISN CSD LAUREN RIDGLEY like mad. Ms. Lacy is a California girl as well as a Michigan State grad who has worked in Palm Springs, and I bet she’s missing those perfect desert temps. A big Well Dunne! to Lacy. Call when you are safe in Charlotte. We need to make sure she’s not stuck in all that snow.

Sorry for the delay in getting the posts up. Seems there was a technical glitch and now it’s all fixed. The wonderful BRANDON ANJELENO is the IT Go-To Guy. He’s also a great voice who is signed with Well Dunne!

Isn’t this the prettiest name – LACY LeVASSEUR. She’s the newest member of the Creative Services Team at WISN, Hearst’s ABC affil in Milwaukee. Her official first day was December 27, and she’s been freelancing for CSD LAUREN RIDGLEY since October. Lacy is coming from Palm Springs, CA where she was Sr. Producer at KESQ, the ABC affiliate in the high desert. Yeah, there is definitely a difference in climate, but fear not. Lacy attended school at Michigan State where she played NCAA Women’s Softball. While in Michigan she also interned in the Creative Services Department of FOX Detroit, WJBK, writing topicals and learning her way around a newsroom. And keeping warm in the winter months. She’s a winner and will love writing and producing for the lovely Lauren. Well Dunne! Lacy.

WPHL in Philly is looking for a Creative Services coordinator. Yeah, it’s all on the website.

You sitting in a comfortable spot, feeling pretty good? Got a little extra cash that can go to a VERY good cause? Then click here and help out a super photog who had a horrible thing happen.

Show of hands…anyone here been to Lithuania? I have to Google it myself, but for those who are in the know, you can now carry the scent of the country with you in the form of a new perfume. Imagine the possibilities for some of your favorite (or the shrill of the unfavorite) places that might follow suit. Eau de East St. Louis?

Of course you want to read an article entitled How To Sell Like A Porn Star.

Talk about a great moment. Picture this: LAUREN RIDGLEY is on vacation in Italy. Sure, that’s a great moment, but that’s not THE great moment in question. OK, on vacation in Italy and the phone rings. It’s the states. It’s a company you had interviewed with and want to work for. So there you are on vacation in Italy and the company you want to work for calls and hires you. Wahoo! That’s the moment we’re talking about and now Lauren is on her way to be Creative Services Director at Hearst’s WISN in Milwaukee. Come October 2, she’ll be checking out the colorful foliage in Wisconsin after watching the leaves turn in Denver, where she’s been Promotion Manager for CBS’ KCNC. The Oregon native is no stranger to Cream City (that’s its nickname) – her brother in law is from there and Ms. Lauren has spent time there and has friends already in place. A football fan, she even has the perquisite green and yellow wardrobe that the Green Bay Packers sport, since that’s the color combo of her alma mater Oregon Ducks. A great big Well Dunne! Lauren.

And yes, her slot is open in Denver, for all you Broncos and ski fans.  And yes, she is looking for a writer producer at WISN.

Speaking of open slots, CSD BOB ST CHARLES sent this along from Orlando. Consider it a really great Job Alert! But do NOT call Bob. WFTV Channel 9 and WRDQ TV 27 are looking for a Promotion Manager that has the talent and ability to win.  We need someone that knows their way around a great image spot; can choose the perfect words for sweeps promos; ask a reporter the right questions for a perfect topical angle and, under the leadership of the Creative Services Director, run the day-to-day operation of a motivated department.

Responsibilities include:  Be prepared to write, shoot and edit while managing the execution of research based, daily topical processes and production; supervise, train, and lead promotion writer/producers;  manage log inventory and placement; act as liaison with ABC & syndicators regarding promotion; and work closely with other departments to execute promotion and marketing commitments.

Qualified applicants will have at least five years of experience as a writer/producer, with demonstrated success in executing daily topical promotion.  Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully interact with all departments.  Your relationship with our news department will be instrumental to our success. Please send your resume and reel to Bob St.Charles, Creative Services Director WFTV / WRDQ 490 E. South Street Orlando, FL 32801  Bob.stcharles@wftv.com.
