He’s been busy for a few months now, but it’s never too late to give support and attention to people with new jobs, like SCOTT STUDACH, who’s doing Topical magic at KCPQ in Seattle. Topical Magic…hmmm…a new body spray? Scott has that innate love of media that allows his talents to make him what used to be called a triple threat: writer, editor, photog. Yep, he’s amazing. His official title is Sr. News Brand Producer at the at-the-moment Tribune Fox. He’s been involved with some exciting companies, like Red Bull and Seattle Media House. His specialty…filming on snow. He’s even got a bona fide IMDB listing. Let’s all give Scott an enthusiastic Well Dunne!
Today would have been LEE MINARD’s birthday. This Saturday, his amazing and talented family invited those who could make it to celebrate his life. It was glorious. In a room overlooking a cloudy and misty Arizona day, the mountains looking like watercolors, people remembered this man and all that he brought to us. Whether you were connected via work, family, music, photography, neighborhood or friendship, he was always present, always honest, never made one feel like time was being squeezed to listen and help. SO in honor of Lee, would you make a vow to pick up the phone (or text if you must) and reach out to someone you might have lost touch with…or someone who reached out to you earlier (it’s never too late to return a call even if you think it is) …or someone you want to compliment. Just do it. And remember, life is short so eat dessert first.
Think About This: “Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to humiliate and to humble.” ~ Yehuda Berg

What better place to get the Christmas spirit than Alaska, where JOHN RICE’s neighbor has a pet reindeer. Yes, in Anchorage. John, who is heading up the Denali Media properties marketing and such, even had a close encounter with a 9 foot moose in his driveway. The moose was chill, in more ways than one, and took a nap nearby. For those Christmas-holics amongst us, Anchorage should be on your list. Christmas Eve weather forecast is for snow. Doesn’t that sound lovely! Well Dunne! John and Happy Christmas.
Definitely need more hours in the day. All in favor? Let’s take a moment from logs, last minute family matters, grocery emergency runs and traffic to think about the amazing good your operations can bring about. Take, for instance, CHRIS and CARLA SLOAN of 2C Media. There isn’t anybody who puts their heart into helping like these two and their whole company. They have made the children of Puerto Rico happy after a horrible hurricane. Chris and Carla et all have tirelessly raised funds, wrangled airlines and even delivered presents themselves – all to make a difference. It’s what getting up in the morning is all about. To say Well Dunne! is just not enough.
Read the beautifully written obituary for LEE MINARD. There will be a celebration of his life in the spring. He is more than missed.

It was uncharacteristically cloudy in Fountain Hills, AZ Wednesday. There wasn’t a lot of light in a place where it normally is evident in spades. The weather folks can give you a detailed reason for this odd happenstance. But the real reason is that a man who called himself the Chief Harvester of Light at Minard Nature Photography passed away. That’s how he defined himself on his LinkedIn page. That was his retirement job. LEE MINARD has left us. Nobody was kinder, more talented and a better person than Lee. He was one of the first people who introduced himself on my first job at WFAA TV. His low voice was steady and reassuring for a 21 year old who was in over her head; he told me everything was going to be all right. And it was. He treated everyone with kindness, even if he was delivering bad news. His legacy in TV marketing was not the excellent work…or the awards…or the titles. His legacy was the encouragement he shared with so many people, making them more creative and more wonderful humans. Lee headed up creative for such entities as WCBS, The Food Network, PAX TV, and a series of the best performing and best marketed stations across the country. He was an artist. Loved baseball. A semi-professional musician whose love of jazz made his eyes light up. He knew so much and shared all he knew. The world is darker and colder with his passing. His beloved family should be in your thoughts. There is nothing Well Dunne! about his death, except to say he lived his life in such a way that no doubt St. Peter met him at the pearly gates with a smiling, hugging “Well Dunne! Lee”. xoxo

Yes, of course it’ still copyrighted by me.
Let’s start February with an apology going out to KLAS CSD HENRY VAZQUEZ, whose name I have accidently misspelled not once, not twice….yeah, red face on this side of the net. It won’t happen again, which is good because Mr. Vazquez shared a change and deserves all the kudos associated with that. It’s not really good news for KLAS, but it’s great news for ASHISH BANTHIA, who is headed to Dallas Fort Worth to be Brand Design Manager for NBC’s KXAS. Creative Head Honcho GARY WANN in DFW created the job for the Kolkata, India native, thus proving that not everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Ashish has an MFA in Computer Arts from Memphis College of Art and got his first TV job in Memphis as a Graphic Designer at WREG, working with LES POLLARD. Next stop for Ashish was the Norfolk market and a Design Director slot at WAVY/WVBT. The one and only LEE MINARD lured him west to KLAS where he’s been highlighting his art to the delight of everyone. Yes, people actually groaned when Ashish announced he’d be leaving – but everyone is happy for him and his fam. Big Well Dunne! Ashish.
Job Alert – Director Art & Creative KLAS Las Vegas
Best wishes to WSAV’s CSD DAN FLAXER who popped the question this week…and of course the answer was ‘yes!’. Put him on the ‘His Heart is Taken’ list. Savannah is such a romantic town…

Did not have the time to catch up with ya’ll today, but the last day of June deserves at least a wonderful Think About This…
Think About This: “Let us be very sincere in our dealings with each other, and have the courage to accept each other as we are. Do not be surprised or become preoccupied at each other’s failures – rather, see and find in each other the good, for each one of us is created in the image of God." ~ Mother Teresa of Calcutta
Gorgeous dragonfly photo courtesy of LEE MINARD, who took it in Arizona. He’s an amazing nature photog now that he’s not doing TV promo. Thanks Lee! Gorgeously and Well Dunne!

Is there a prettier city in the spring than Atlanta? OK, Paris, but I’m talking domestic. Yes, Atlanta and their peachtrees in full bloom win the eyes and hearts of anyone who loves gorgeous. The timing of Atlanta in the spring is going to work out perfectly for DAVID TALLARICO. David is the new Promotion Manager at CBS’ WGCL, or as they brand themselves CBS46 and Peachtree TV (see, Peachtree is big business there). After not just one but two periods at WJAC, the Johnstown PA Sinclair NBC (once as producer and then again as CSD), David will bid adieu to Pennsylvania. He’s a PA boy with a degree from University of Pittsburgh and time as a producer at WPXI in The ‘Burgh. . Best of luck with your new job, David, and you’ll love working with your boss JEFF HOLUB. Well Dunne!
Job Alert – WXYZ Detroit has two (yes 2) open Producer slots. Come work in a dynamic news market for a fabulous company (Scripps) and one of my favorite CSD’s around (DAVE BAUMANN). This is not a paid ad…I mean it when I say it’s a great opportunity.
Well Dunne! Talent’s MELANIE HAYNES isn’t just fab behind the mic (and she is – click her name and give her a listen) but you’ll have the opportunity to see how she shines in front of the cameras as well. She’s just finished shooting an episode of SALEM, a new series for WGN. Details on when it airs will be made yours in advance so you can set your iCal reminder. Well Dunne! Melanie!

Change is all around. Always has been, but there are times when it seems to rush ahead more quickly, sweeping us breathlessly along with it. Found out there’s a big change happening out west, where KLAS’ LEE MINARD has announced he’s leaving the station the end of June. He and his lovely wife (and the family cats of course) will be heading to the Arizona desert to enjoy life lived to the max and not to the time clock. Lee’s career is amazing and he’s brought his magic to such places as Food Network and stations across the country. An award-winning pro, it seems his departure from active TV will leave a hollow spot. He loves jazz, photography and art, so he’ll be busy in between sunrise and sunset. A sincere and heartfelt Well Dunne! Lee.
More change. This coming Friday is going to be extra exciting for Well Dunne!’s RICH VANSLYKE. His daughter Ali is graduating high school. The lovely young lady is going to college and study jazz saxophone performance…making her my favorite Freshman. Well Dunne! VanSlykes.
My wonderful entertainment lawyer reminds me that ya’ll need reminding that all material on this site, including the daily Well Dunne! blog is under copyright and all that it implies. OK, carry on.
Think About This: “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” ~ Steve Jobs

Congratulations to both WXYZ in Detroit, where DAVE BAUMANN does his creative marketing magic and to KLAS in Denver, where LEE MINARD is the creative king. Both stations are just two of three broadcast facilities to have won a Columbia DuPont Award for outstanding achievements in journalism. Very Well Dunne.
Think About This: "Our ordinary mind always tries to persuade us that we are nothing but acorns and that our greatest happiness will be to become bigger, fatter, shinier acorns; but that is of interest only to pigs. Our faith gives us knowledge of something better: that we can become oak trees." ~ E. F. Schumacher
Any day I hear from LEE MINARD, CSD at KLAS in Vegas…well, those days are great. Today was such a day, and he is looking forward to having BRENDA MICHAEL join his creative team at the Landmark CBS affil in the Entertainment Capital of the World. Brenda is heading west from her slot at the Tribune stations in Indianapolis, where she’s been for the last four plus years. The Ball State grad is a Muncie native who has worked her way up the ladder at Indianapolis’ MyTV WNDY, handling graphics, writing, producing and was On-Air Manager of Promotions during an 11 year run. Bren, which I’m told is her nickname, will love the desert. Lucky girl working with Lee. Well Dunne! to you.
Yeah baby…that’s Well Dunne! Talent’s RICH VANSLYKE doing the announce for the FORD end of the year national TV campaign. Rich has THE sound that’s getting him noticed and getting stations signing him up. The Ford spots, btw, feature former KPIX talent MIKE ROWE, who has a super voice, too. Oh, just heard it on NBC. Well Dunne! Rich.
Viva Riccardo. For all you South Floridians, don’t miss Well Dunne! Talent’s RICCARDO PEROTTI whose musical talents will be front and center Friday and Saturday nights at La Casa de Tula. All part of the Miami Music Festival. He sings, he has a great voice, he’s bilingual. Wow! Well Dunne! Riccardo.
Each and everyone involved in marketing is aiming at getting a consumer/viewer to switch brands one way or another. Here’s a very interesting take on what retailers need to do to make that happen, and there’s info for your biz as well.
Whole Foods is going to unveil their Top 10 holiday wines on Nov. 17. On Twitter. Interesting.

Lots of you love living by the sea and those who don’t are always looking for a chance to get closer to the sand. One such lucky lady is trading one seaside locale for another. BARBARA BERESFORD is settling in to Corpus Christi, TX, which sits hard on the Gulf. She’s taken the job of Director of News Brands and Markets at KRIS-TV, the NBC affiliate . Well, actually it’s more than just KRIS. It’s a combo of 7 entities: KRIS, KZTV (CBS affil), KDF, KAJA (Telemundo), CW, KRISTV.COM, and KZTV10.COM. Barbara, a grad of the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, was at Media General’s WJAR in Providence, hard on the Atlantic. She’s also been Art Director at DC’s WUSA and KVBC in Las Vegas. Well Dunne! Barbara.
Job Alert! – Barbara is looking for a Topical producer.
Speaking of Vegas (one grabs a transition where one can)…SETH SKUZA has been writing and producing for LEE MINARD at KLAS in Vegas. He’s now headed to Dallas Fort Worth where he’ll be wrangling topicals for KTXA, part of CBS’s operation in the Metroplex. Thanks to CSD DAVID HERSHEY for the info.
Well Dunne! to Stephen Arnold Music’s new contribution to CNN Headline News. Specifically the theme for Prime News.
