He’ll be getting a Mile High welcome…that’s what awaits MATT LAWS (He’s the IV, which is impressive) on Sept 21 when he starts as Creative Services Director of KMGH, the Scripps Journal ABC affil in Denver, the Mile High City. No reference to marijuana whatsoever. Matt’s a Tennessee grad who will be making the move from NBC’s operation in Philly where he headed up creative and programming. He’s got a super track record from places like WOAI in San Antonio, KIRO in Seattle and WXIA in Atlanta. He’s always wanted to live in Denver (a great town for sure) and this just came along when he wasn’t expecting it. Isn’t that the case with so many of life’s big adventures…A big Well Dunne! to Matt everybody!

Is Philadelphia the Rodney Dangerfield of Nielsen markets? I mean, does it get the respect it so honestly deserves? After all, it is the capital of American democracy – home to more history than a history buff would care to list. It’s got cheesesteaks – even a naked bike ride. Yet it seems to be the middle sister of markets…everybody likes it but nobody enthuses about it. I bet that will change once COSMO LOSCO settles into his new job at NBC in the City of Brotherly Love. As of October 6, he’ll be Promotion Manager at WCAU, working with VP MATT LAWS. Cosmo actually started his career at WCAU back in ’05 when he was a Production Assistant. He’ll be leaving behind the good folks at FOX in DC where he was Promotion Manager. Other TV marketing slots that were enhanced by his work include WGAL in Harrisburg PA and NBC’s WRC in DC. Mac experience a plus. LICENSE/ CERTIFICATE: Driving required. Must have a Valid Drivers License and provide proof of insurability. SKILLS / ABILITIES: Non-linear editing skills necessary. Philadelphia. Home of Independence (they have a hall by that name, etc) and where all our July 4 celebrations emanated. It’s now the home of MATT LAWS (who would die if I called him handsome, so I won’t). He’s taken the VP slot of Creative Services and Programming at NBC’s WCAU, known as NBC 10. He’s been down at WXIA, Gannett’s NBC affil in Atlanta and before that was out in Seattle at KIRO. Along the way, the gentleman from the South (he’s Matthew Laws IV officially) has done creative and headed up folks at WOAI San Antonio, WLWT Cincinnati, KOCO in Oklahoma City and WUPW in Toldeo. Ms. RYANN JOHNSON is the newest member of The Promotional Edge, coming over from ABC Television where she was Manager of Integrated Marketing. She’ll continue her winning streak of exciting promotions. She has been at Showtime as Special Events Coordinator and was Marketing Coordinator for the Cleveland Cavaliers. She’s a Tulane grad who’s also studied in Spain and France. Well Dunne! Ryann.

Being a southern gentleman by birth, MATT LAWS is right at home in Atlanta, where he is now at Gannett’s WXIA, the NBC affiliate. His new title is the Creative Services Director. Matt is originally from South Carolina, so he’s definitely closer to home and family. He makes the transition from KIRO in Seattle (that job is open – consider this another Job Alert). Matt also headed up creative at WOAI in San Antonio and WLWT Cincinnati, KOCO in OKC and WUPW in Toledo. A big mint julep inspired Well Dunne! Matt.
ERIN FELENTZER is the new VP of PR at TNT. Lots of initials there, but I know you followed that. She’s departing ABC Entertainment Group in LA where she was VP of Communications. She’s a Florida Gator in case you were wondering.

When CSD JIM HART at ABC15 in Phoenix called with the news that his Topical Producer GREG HARMON was leaving, there was sadness in his voice. But also Jim knew it was the right time for the creative bird to fly the nest and couldn’t be happier with the news. Greg is finishing up in the Valley of the Sun today so he can start next Monday with CSD MATT LAWS (who is Matt Laws IV…very cool) at KIRO in Seattle. Yes, the Arizona native and his wife are moving to the Pacific Northwest and are looking forward to getting tired of the rain. It will be a new experience. Greg and Mrs. Greg have family up in the NW, so he’s actually catching up with them. He calls Tucson his hometown. Happy and safe travels, Greg. It’s hard to leave the gorgeous Monterrey area of California (think heaven with amazing golf) but when a great market and a great opportunity comes around, well, one has to box it up and move. Such is the case with ED EVEREST, who is the new Creative Services Director of Hearst’s WTAE in Pittsburgh. Ed decamps his Hearst-owned KSBW TV where he was CSD and where he recently helped launch Central Coast ABC, a multicast channel situation. He begins his new chapter and the trek across the Rockies come late June. Ed has a degree from Indiana U and has worked doing promo magic in Augusta, GA. When you see him at the PROMAX Station Summit, make sure you give him a high five. Well Dunne! Ed.
Cali is losing another creative when WILL HARRIS leaves for Seattle. Currently the Sr. Writer Producer at Cox’s KTVU in the San Francisco market, Will has been tapped to be the new Promotion Manager for CBS affil KIRO, also owned by Cox. He’ll be working with the talented CSD MATT LAWS up in the Starbucks headquarter city after spending five years working with CSD JEFF HOLUB in SF. Will graduated from Norfolk State and started his TV career at FOX in Dallas, KDFW. He’s also been with WPHL in Philly. Will starts his new life chapter in June. Well Dunne! Will.

Forming alliances with great talent is part of being a Creative Services pro. When combos of talent continue to work together in new jobs, it’s telling….says a lot about the synergy between people. It REALLY says a lot when not one but two members of the creative team follow their “leader” to a new gig. Such is the case at KIRO, where two Texans have joined their former “co worker and mentor” MATT LAWS at the Cox-owned ABC affiliate in Seattle. Both are true Texans, born in the Lone Star State and eligible for a license plate that says so.
El Paso native JON SCHWERIN got his start in TV as a photog in Lubbock, TX. He quickly grew into promo slots and found himself working with Matt at KOCO in Oklahoma City. When Matt went south to WOAI in San Antonio, Jon did as well. How is he adjusting to the Pacific Northwest? Like a champ. Although he doesn’t drink coffee…He is doing a super job as a writer producer for the creative services team. Well Dunne! Jon.
San Antonio native DERRICK BARRIOS was also part of the team at WOAI. He’s been doing freelance graphics and photography since he was 15, and his heart is really in his work as Graphics Designer. Another non-coffee drinker (!), Derrick is part of the family that owns one of SA’s best restaurants, Los Barrios. I wonder if he’ll get care packages of their famous salsa. Well Dunne! Derrick.

TJ KING has finally been handed the title of Creative Services Director at WAWS/WTEV the FOX / CBS combo in Jacksonville, FL. TJ has been running the creative for months, and now it’s official. TJ came to the duop in May of last year from WAGA in Atlanta. The Jax native is on the lookout for a Promotion Manager, so let the job hunt begin. Well Dunne! TJ.
SHANNON JAMIESON DRIVER is now in the drivers seat at DIY down in Knoxville. She’s just been named VP Consumer Marketing for the Scripps network. She’s been director of partnership marketing and brand extensions at HGTV and made the switch as easy as signaling to change lanes. Well Dunne! Shannon.
Topicals at the Gannett CBS affiliate in Columbia, SC are now being handled by MICHAEL KANADAY. He’s a local guy who knows how to do it all, including shoot. As topical producer at WLTX, he probably won’t have to. Well Dunne! Michael. And thanks to CSD JIM HAYES for the info.

It’s a promotion and it’s a VERY long distance and it’s exciting and….it’s ERIN MARTIN’S news. She’s trading her title of Promotion Manager at WFTV and WRDQ in Orlando for a promotion to Seattle’s KIRO, where she’ll be Promotion Manager at this CBS affil. It’s all a Cox family move…all stations are owned by them. Ms. Martin is going 2,550 miles across America after 7 years in O-town. The Detroit native is going to fly, along with her dog and cat, for an Oct 25 start date. She’ll be working under CSD MATT LAWS and is thrilled to be joining a great team. She’ll be greatly missed by her Orlando CSD BOB ST CHARLES, but he’s thrilled for her. Besides the extra work in November, Erin is looking forward to exploring the Great Northwest and the gorgeous city, including the local wineries. Note to Seattle – play up the winery angle in addition to the ownership you have on the coffee situation. Congratulations and Well Dunne! Erin.

Trading tacos for coffee is MATT LAWS, named the new head of creative at Seattle’s KIRO TV. Matt is saying adios to San Antonio, where he had been heading the marketing for Newport’s WOAI, the NBC affil on the lovely Riverwalk. He heads to the COX owned CBS affil, which marks the first time Matt has worked with The Eye Net. He’s earned his stripes at WLWT in Cincy, KOCO in Oklahoma City, and WUPW in Toledo. You’ll love working near the water, Matt. He’ll no doubt miss San Antonio’s famous Fiesta, set for April.
