Houston Texas is one of the few markets where a promo could actually use rocket scientists. Real ones. You know, like ‘you don’t have to be a rocket scientist…but he is” sort of thing. They’re in abundance as part of the Johnson Space Center and they’re pretty fun people. They get jokes faster than most. There’s a lot going on in Houston not involving said rocket scientists. One such hot-off-the-press bit of news involves creative MICHAEL PENIX, now Creative Services Director of KIAH, the CW in Houston. Michael doesn’t have to drive that far from his old job as Promotion Manager of NBC affil KPRC over on Southwest Freeway. Michael is an OU grad (an Oklahoma man in Texas…oh my!) who started his TV marketing career at Tulsa’s KTUL and then OKC’s KFOR before landing at ABC’s KTRK in Houston. He took his first Director job at WLTX in Columbia, SC before returning to Houston and KPRC. He’s listed that he ‘manages, inspires and develops people’ he works with. Very Well Dunne! Mr. P.

Boy, things are heating up in Houston, and it’s not just the weather. We’ve already spilled the story about KELLY LAMBERT heading to NBC affil KPRC as Brand Manager. Now we’re adding MICHAEL PENIX as Promotion Manager at the Post Newsweek station. It’s a homecoming for Michael, who was doing promo producing across town for TOM ASH over at ABC’s KTRK. That was before he went to Columbia, South Carolina where he headed up the creative department for Gannett’s WLTX in SC’s capital. Other stops along the way for the University of Oklahoma grad include KFOR in OKC and KTUL in Tulsa, his hometown. He should get to know Tulsa native and Well Dunne! Talent voice MARK DRISCOLL.  A big Well Dunne! Michael.

Thought your Monday was not up to snuff? Try being RICK SNYDER over at the Speed Channel. Let’s just say it isn’t often one gets to say your week began with a naked man breaking into your offices. Details here.

Speaking of not being up to snuff…GoDaddy had to be taken to the woodshed for their problems with something about advanced hosting of the Well Dunne! Talent site. Thank heavens for the best IT person ever, BRANDON ANJELENO. He nearly had the phone growing out of his ear – that’s how long he had them on the phone to finally get it straightened away. Hugs and Well Dunne! Brandon. GoDaddy – not so much.

It’s kinda magic cool. When MICHAEL PENIX shows up at the PROMAX Station Summit June 8th, he’ll have changed from a writer producer to a  Marketing Manager.  Yep, he’s one of the newest promo pros to head his own department. While in Sin City , he’ll be representing Gannett’s CBS affil WLTX in Columbia, SC, his new job which he begins the very day the Summit commences. Michael has a stellar background in TV marketing, with his last gig at ABC-owned KTRK in Houston under the muy talented TOM ASH. Mr. P has also done writing and producing at KFOR In Oklahoma City as well as KTUL in his native Tulsa. Well Dunne, Michael!

Let’s hear a Well Dunne! for Sheldon Wiley. Name doesn’t ring a bell? Even for you New Yorkers? Well Sheldon is the new Guinness world record holder in the Most Cocktails Made In An Hour category, having won this distinction by whipping up 1,003 cocktails in 60 minutes. That boils down to 16.7 drinks an hour. Each had at least three ingredients. Impressive.
