And one of the best of the best has a new job to share with ya’ll. BRANDII TOBY-LEON is now part of Bullseye Communications. Her background with Scripps Nets out of Knoxville, Fox TV Stations, and TV One (there’s more, but these are the fun ones) will make her unstoppable. She’s a gem. Big Well Dunne! Brandii. Yes, there are two ‘i’s in her name.

All you PROMAXers remember SHANNA GREEN, right? She was Editorial Director of Brief Magazine and all the online goin’s on. She’s great. Well, she left PROMAX and went to doing fulltime PR and taking the slot Content Manager for Priya PR, always keeping her freelance writing shingle out. She’s wonderful if you haven’t figured that out yet. Now she’s been tapped to be Director of Communications for Anonymous Content, the company that is a real hybrid – talent, commercials, TV shows and more. The Western Washington University grad gets a big Well Dunne!

PROMAX is under way, full steam in NYC. It’s time to shine a light on one of the good…no, let’s make that one of the great guys in the biz. JOHN MILLER. Great because he always encouraged people to do work above what they thought they could…great because he was fair…great because he kept a sense of humor about what it is to market entertainment. Bringing out the best in people is a gift. And he looks good as Groucho Marx. He’s being awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. He’s currently Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of NBC Sports Group and he’s held any number of marketing titles for The Peacock. Where he keeps all the awards for the work he and his people have done…well, I guess he has a lot of shelf space in his office. He’s a Chicago man who got started at WBBM and then transitioned to CBS Network where he handled affiliate promotions and head of promotions for CBS News. What a wonderful choice. Well Dunne! John.
PATIENCE CARTER, the Fox Philadelphia intern who was shot in Orlando’s horrific Pulse killings was featured on the front landing page of the Washington Post. Her story is very moving.

- Expertise on social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure and manage multiple projects.
- Key qualities are the ability to create, edit, apply creative direction, animate, work well with other people and contribute to a team effort.
- At least 2 years experience that includes non-linear editing and videography at a local television station or equivalent experience.
- Experience creating motion, web and print graphics.
- Conceptualize, write, produce and edit news/station image, entertainment and community service project promos as assigned for platforms including radio and digital/social media.
- Photoshop, Illustrator and AfterEffects experience required
- Writing for television a plus

One of the best things local television can do is be part of their community; spotlighting outreach programs to help when needed, highlighting outstanding actions and people via recognition, trying to make sense when tragedy strikes as well as bringing comfort. Down in Charleston, after the murders that made the world shake its head in dismay, Raycom’s WCSC stepped up and produced a series of image spots reinforcing the city’s strength in never allowing a tragedy to define the good people of The Palmetto City. CSD DANI DUDEK wrangled her producers, KRISTIN LEE, SAMANTHA HIGGINS and MAC FAIL along with her Graphics talents DEMONTRE PARISH and STEVE RADFORD. Dispatches From PromaxBDA – Day 1 By Ray Ecke
If yesterday is any indicator, the days of a non-eventful Day 1 at the annual PromaxBDA Conference are clearly over. The late afternoon session in the NY Hilton’s Grand Ballroom was a standing-room-only situation as seemingly every attendee were there soaking in the three-part Mayhem Matters session hosted by Tim Nolan, SVP, Marketing, Creative & Brand Strategy, Lifetime Networks. Particularly noteworthy was the second section featuring MIT Professor Dava Newman, who delved into the design evolution of NASA’s spacesuits, including her own design; and the conversation with Shane Smith, Founder/CEO of VICE and legendary former Viacom CEO and current Firefly3 Principal Tom Freston, moderated by NY Times media columnist David Carr. The takeaways: good content is key, no matter how it’s consumed TV, mobile, tablets. However measuring the success of that content as it relates to ad revenue in the online/mobile space remains murky.
Later, at the Media-Only meet and greet with the PromaxBDA Board, PromaxBDA CEO Betsey Scolnik, confirmed that overall first-day registration was the highest ever in the organization’s history — talk about “Wow Factor.”
At the event, David Herbruck, Principal/President of creative studio Loyalkaspar, Kendrick Reid; SVP/Executive Creative Director, Brand Strategy for BET Networks; Samantha Maltin, SVP Marketing, HISTORY & H2 channels; and Editor of the music production website SonicScoop David Weiss discussed the challenges facing the industry, the merits (or lack thereof) of the new Seth MacFarlane comedy “A Million Ways To Die In The West” and how HISTORY’s “Vikings” is Reid’s favorite show on TV (excluding BET shows presumably).
Opening day wrapped with an amazing party at the Museum of Modern Art. Beautiful architecture and sculpture and top shelf food (artisanal pizza on hooks? Clever and tasty!) was the perfect setting for creative community chitchat. Spotted at the posh event was leftchannel Creative Director Alberto Scirocco, who will be speaking today at 2:30 in the Gramercy Room; Noelle Alanis, Head of Sales at Stephen Arnold Music; and Scott Matz, Principal at design studio Thornberg & Forester.
One bummer: The super-talented Jill Lindeman, PromaxBDA’s long-time SVP, Conferences & Strategic Partnership announced she will be stepping down after more than 7 years on the job. She will be missed by those who worked closely with her at PromaxBDA, and by attendees of all of the organization’s events, which thanks to her hard work were always, engaging, relevant and well-executed. Why is there an opening for a CSD in Portland Maine at the Hearst ABC affiliate? Sadly, MARK BRADLEY is leaving. Sadly because he’s one of the good guys, and also because he didn’t plan on leaving. But when life/fate/the universe puts a perfect opportunity right in front of you, ya gotta go for it. Mark is going to head back to Charleston, SC and take a teaching slot there at a local institution of higher learning. His last day is the 12th and he starts the new job the 15th. Will that be enough time to sew patches on the elbows of his cardigan? He seems VERY happy and in today’s job market, that makes him top of the heap. In turn, we are happy for you, Mark. Well Dunne!
And yes, that means the CSD slot is open there. As a matter of fact, so is a writer producer slot.
CHAD MALLAM is hard at work untangling the in’s and out’s of the ABC series LOST. His Untangling Lost is an internet series and it’s now starring a Muppet character you gotta love. Tune in to hear Chad talk about promoting with puppets on MITCH PHILLIPS radio show Friday 9 –10 in the AM Eastern. Well Dunne! Chad.
