This country seems to define itself by what body of water is nearest. The Atlantic means the east coast….the Gulf refers to the southern states which get to have more shrimp than the rest of us…the Mississippi divides us in half…and the Pacific calls out to come across the vast empty west and watch sunsets in the land of opportunity. Heading from the banks of the Mississippi (metaphorically speaking) to the golden west is JOEL FLOWERS, who is embarking on a trek from Sikeston, MO to Thousand Palms, CA, where Mr. Flowers will be hitting the world of TV marketing as a writer producer for CSD KENT KAY at KESQ. The University of Tennessee at Martin grad has been polishing his marketing craft working in radio, where deadlines and marketing messages are the same as TV. In his new job, Joel will be reunited with his old radio on-air co-host, SALLY SAPUTO; the two of them were a hot item and from the sound of things, they will continue to be for News-Press & Gazette Co’s operations. Well Dunne! and safe travels Joel. Don’t fall over when you see the price of petrol in Needles.

Congrats and Well Dunne! to WKYC’s MICKI BYRNES with her new title VP/Station Manager at  Gannett-owned NBC affil..  She’s a creative – been a marketing pro in Boston, Atlanta and San Francisco as well as most recently VP of Advertising and Promotion in Cleveland.  Always loved her work and working with her on the NBC Promo Board. She also did a campaign that still ranks as one of my favorites ever.

Thoughts and prayers going out to Well Dunne! Talent’s DENA YASNER‘s father recovering from heart surgery.

What a brilliant bunch of folks they are at Dallas-based AR&D. They tapped someone who really knows marketing to be their Marketing pro…someone who has a track record that impresses – and she knows what she’s doing. Yep, hats off to the AR&D folks who will welcome ROBIN HOFFMAN to their lineup come March 10. Ms. Robin hates to leave the good people at Scripps’ KMGH in Denver…after all, she’s worked with the GM there, Byron Grandy, for 12 years beginning when McGraw Hill was the owner. But when opportunity calls, it’s a sign to write a new life chapter. She’ll stay in Denver to boot. Ms. Robin has worked in the Hampton Roads market as well as Toledo – in TV marketing of course. A big Well Dunne! to her.

Let me correct an error made last week….I posted about SALLY SAPUTO and her CSD KENT KAY. Well, their station is not affiliated with the network I said…their station is KESQ is an ABC affil. And they’re located in Thousand Palms, not Palm Desert. So there.

Moving to LA? In LA and looking for new digs? Then I have the man for you. MARC GRAYSON, formerly with Universal (and a legend in how good he could cut deals) is now part of the The Collective Realty. Right on Santa Monica just east of La Cienega.  You’d be in the best hands in LA and he understands this biz.

Valentine’s Day. Should we have a discussion as to whether this is a Hallmark holiday (shout out to the good friends at The Hallmark Channel) or just a day in which eating chocolate is encouraged (which is not a bad thing whatsoever)? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Palm Springs is a wonderful place. Little white sparkly lights wrapped around palm trees – stretching for miles. Ah….delightful. For those into no humidity climates, even better. Such is the locale for Ms. SALLY SAPUTO who just got a promotion. She’s now the Sr. Creative Services Writer Producer for CSD KENT KAY at KESQ, the NBC affiliate in Palm Springs. OK, it’s officially in Palm Desert, which must be exactly like Palm Springs without the springs. Anyway, Sally is a Univ of Tennessee at Marin grad who has interned in Lexington at WTVQ before heading out west where she was writer and producer for Kent. Excellent news and Well Dunne! Sally.

Well Dunne! to the savvy marketing folks who sent out emails perfect for a snowy day. Heard from needlepoint stores, pet stores…any TV station have the time or manpower to send out "now that you’re snowed in, it’s a perfect time to watch our channel"?

The blue grass of Lexington, KY is going to be traded for palm trees and sand when SALLY SAPUTO joins the creative crew at KESQ/KPSP, the NBC and CBS affils in Palm Springs. She won’t begin until May, but just knowing she’s on the way is exciting for CSD KENT KAY. Ms. Sally will be a writer producer in the creative services department. She’s been at WTVQ in Lexington and also did an internship at WOGY, a news talk radio operation in Jackson, TN. She calls The Volunteer State home and is an alum of University of Tennessee at Martin.  A big Well Dunne! Sally.

Well, someone has to bring this to someone’s attention: alcohol actually enhances creativity.
