First Monday of the new year. The enormous amount of change the last year brought has led some of us to look at different ways to navigate. Open our creative minds to various ideas, crafts, approaches and information, all to give our day to day life spice and reward. One such brilliant student of the possible is CARRIE KING. She’s starting at Johns Hopkins studying for her Masters Degree Digital Communications and Media with Philosophy as a double major. Wow…how totally exciting. She’ll be taking her successful years heading up creative for Tribune in Chicago and for Fox there as well. Ms. Carrie has also studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. What excellent news it is to hear about possibilities and academia and one of the best of us taking the reigns. Well Dunne! Carrie. I hope homework doesn’t keep you from staying in touch.

Think About This: "It is hard to let old beliefs go. They are familiar. We are comfortable with them and have spent years building systems and developing habits that depend on them. Like a man who has worn eyeglasses so long that he forgets he has them on, we forget that the world looks to us the way it does because we have become used to seeing it that way through a particular set of lenses. Today, however, we need new lenses. And we need to throw the old ones away." ~ Kenich Ohmae

Think About This: "Words can inspire or criticize. Words help us express our feelings and explore the very depths of what we understand. Yet words are simply symbols, like signs along the roadway that point beyond themselves. More than beautiful words about love; we seek an experience of the beauty that is Love. More than words about life we seek to express the Light which is life Itself. As we move beyond the surface stream of our thoughts and words, we discover that there is so much more to us than words or ideas can ever describe. We are consciousness experiencing conscious awakening." ~ Ric Beattie

Nothing like a change of scenery. Imagine (and watch how you pronounce that…as a Midwestener, the recent reminder was that it’s an ‘ah’ sound not an “e” at the start of the word) the beauty of the west as exemplified in Salt Lake City…now picture the lush beaches and palms of Florida’s Tampa Bay area. That’s what BRYAN JOHNSON has done – he’s now working hard for CSD DENNIS ELSBURY at ABC affil WFTS. He made the change from the FOX affil in SLC, KTSU. And he’s recently married, too. All change – all good. He’s a grad of Dixie State U, where he earned the Communications Student of the Year honor, and has worked at KCSG in St. George. Well Dunne! Bryan.

From the Land of Enchantment comes word of a very nice promotion at Hearst’s KOAT. A Jayhawk, who follows basketball and is thrilled with how that all worked out, Doug has worked at a cable operation in Lawrence while he was a student as well as doing topicals at KCTV in KC. Tennessee and North Carolina have some really steep rivalries when it comes to sports. The capital of NC is rife with colleges, among them Duke, NCState and UNC-Chapel Hill. But Tennessee native APRIL TOLLIVER isn’t going to let that concern her one little bit. She’s just begun at the NCB affil in Raleigh, WNCN where she’s doing that creative promo thing. Ms. April has a background in television, film, and production and has worked in public TV and post houses. A graduate from Middle Tennessee State University, April can draw a storyboard with real images, not stick figures. Currently, she’s handling Topicals and a lot of image and sales projects. CSD STEVE PATRICK is thrilled to have her. Well Dunne! April.
March 8 was officially International Women’s Day, which made it the ideal time to introduce two of Well Dunne! Talent’s newest pros. For those who missed it, say hello and give a listen to LISA SCOTT and SHELLEY DUFFY. Both have been in front of and behind the camera, both have been newsies and really understand the nuances and needs of a station…and both have incredible range. Lisa can do “young” and her vocal stylings are a hit with kiddies…Shelley leans more towards a deeper register with authority. Something for everybody! Well Dunne! you two.
