From one state capital to another…GENE ROBINSON is saying adieu to California’s capital Sacramento and is heading to Arizona to head up the creative efforts of Meredith’s CBS affil, KPHO. He’s a California man through and through, from his degree from Cal State Sacramento to his long career at KCRA, where he began as Promotion Manager for then-owner Kelly Broadcasting’s The West. While there, Gene served as News Promo Manager, Assistant Creative Services Director and then as CSD. Hearst took over ownership somewhere along the way. For the last two years, Gene has been Director of the Television Communications Center for the California  Highway Patrol. CHiPs. No word on whether he has a motorcycle license or those cool boots Ponch and John wore on the show. Anyway, it’s great news and a big Well Dunne! to Gene. The welcome matt is out for you in the Valley of the Sun.

Happy birthday to the one and only SHORTY BACON.

PETE BARRETT gets our best wishes for a speedy ‘back on your feet’ – he’s getting his knee operated on today and no doubt will be back better than new.

Big Well Dunne! welcome to LARRY RICHERT, the newest member of the creative team. Larry’s out of Pittsburgh where he’s heard on KDKA Radio. And for all your Pittsburgh Steelers fans (and I know there are a ton of you) he’s the voice for NFL Films’ Steelers Report. Yeah, you should hire him to use that voice for you…

Sending out healing thoughts and good wishes to KSAZ’s VP Creative JIM GIRORDO’s son Matthew, who recently underwent heart surgery. Jim and his wife, former promotion whiz SHARON, are making sure young Matthew makes a full recovery. Well Dunne! to that.

Love hearing about an indoor, air-conditioned dog park. Phoenix is the right place for this, although with the heat now and the cold later, perhaps this is the next wave of pet-related services. SHORTY BACON approved this message.

Some folks get all the luck. Like getting to live and work in Oceanside markets. Such is the case with ED TUDOR, who is a Jacksonville, FL guy and was part of WJXT and WTLV/WJXX along the first coast. Then he made stops at Belo’s KHOU in Houston (on the Gulf) and WWSB in beloved Sarasota, FL. America’s Monaco, imo. I didn’t mention the Little Rock Promo Manager gig, since their water is bottled. Now Mr. Ed is doing promo magic at WVEC in Norfolk. WVEC’s building sits right on the water, so Mr. Tudor’s streak of being waterside is not only unbroken, but amazing. Great news, Ed…Well Dunne! And great news for CSD CHUCK SPRUILL.

Speaking of WVEC, job alert! They need yet another super promo pro writer producer. Super shop. Behave accordingly.

Happy Birthday, one day late, to Well Dunne! Talent’s JOE CALI. Hated to miss that celebration. Also a belated birthday to the one and only SHORTY BACON.

Despite all the troubles Louisiana has been dealing with, there’s cause to celebrate down New Orleans way over the upcoming July 4th weekend. BILLY PILGRIM has just been promoted to Creative Services Director at the Hearst owned NBC affiliate, WDSU. Billy has been Promotion Manager there and now has the title and bigger office to go along with the creative work he’s been doing.  Besides having a first class name, Mr. P has also worked in Montgomery, AL. Well Dunne! Billy. Enjoy every moment.

What are they going to do about the now-vacant Promo Manager job in the Crescent City? Fill it. So those who are interested…start your engines.

From the bayou to the desert…word from NBC affil KVOA Tucsan is that CSD ANDREW CALIENDO has hired not one but two writer producer types. Trading the lovely Atlanta seacoast for a dryer saguaro cactus clime is HEIDI OSGOOD, coming from Sinclair’s CBS affil WGME in Portland, Maine. JEREMY HEATH is coming over from FOX affil KLRT in Little Rock. Great team, Andrew! Well Dunne! to Heidi and Jeremy.

July 3 is SHORTY BACON’s birthday. July 4th is UNCLE SAM’s birthday. This summer is flying by too quickly, so don’t look for another posting until mid next week. Everybody take some time and enjoy. I suggest one rediscover the joys of lightening bugs.

“Summer is the time when one sheds one’s tensions with one’s clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit. A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all’s right with the world.” ~  Ada Louise Huxtable
