Up in Utica, NY, a lovely young lady has gotten her first full time job in TV. Remember yours….how you felt? I bet that’s still the same feeling of excitement, accomplishment, and eagerness. ASHLEY ROGERS is the new writer producer for CSD TERRY KOWALSKI at the Nexstar ABC/FOX operation, WUTR/WFXV. She had been doing some part time work and got the bump to fulltime because of her good work and excellent outlook. Let’s turn this over to Ashley to fill us in: I have finished my Associate degree at Herkimer County Community College for Photographic Technology and completed my Bachelor of Technology for Electronic Marketing & Publishing at Morrisville State College. After College I plan to find a career that will be able to put to use with my degree, knowledge, creativity, and skills. I am particularly interested in finding a career as an Animator, Graphic Design, Video Production or Web Development/Design. My dream is to go beyond what I can image and what I could ever have hoped for. I have seen myself achieve so much already and I believe I can do so much more as long as I keep my head up with a positive attitude. A very excited Well Dunne! to Ashley.

He’s packing up in Pittsburgh and heading to New York, where a new job and his children await. Doesn’t get better…you can hear it in his voice. Terry’s headed to Utica, where he’ll be CSD the Nexstar’s ABC/FOX operation WUTR/WFXV. Terry’s been in TV and loves it almost as much as PETE BARRETT. The two of them would never stop talking TV if they sit together. While he’s been looing around, Terry studied and got his Masters in Public Relations from Kent State U. It all boils down to family, doesn’t it. It really does. He loves ice hockey, snow mobiling and all other kinds of sports that he can enjoy with the boys. I’m sure you join me in saying Well Dunne! It’s so exciting when you spot talent when they just begin a career…then watch when they grow and hone that talent. It’s like watching a gorgeous flower bloom. Then when something great happens to them, its even more thrilling than normal. Let’s point to one up and coming talent named JENNY DOLPH, who TERRY KOWALSKI discovered when the two of the were doing that promo thing in South Bend Indiana. Not that she was a newbie…Ms. Jenny had gotten a degree from Purdue and had done production and promo and web editing at such places as WLFI, WSJV and Gray Interactive. She calls herself a ‘Jen of all trades’. When Jenny stepped up to Pittsburgh as News Brand Producer for WTAE in Steel Town, she was doing super work. CSD TRACY ACCORD OLIVER was a super boss, and Jenny hates saying goodbye, but she’s off to Columbus, Ohio to work for LARRY WATZMAN at WBNS. Love watching this flower bloom! Well Dunne! Jenny. She starts Dec12, beating Santa to the holiday punch.
Lovely to see ANNIE ROHRS get promoted. She’s now Director Public Relations at CBS Interactive, upped from her role as Sr. Manager. She’s done communications for NFL and Yahoo as well. Well Dunne! Annie.

TERRY KOWALSKI is giving himself a Christmas present…a new job! He’ll be starting next week in Pittsburgh at Sinclair’s WBGH/WPMY, the Fox and MyTV affils. It’s been a milestone year for Mr. K…he graduated from Kent State U with his Masters in PR and now, he’ll be in the biggest market of his career. Mr. K has a fab background he’ll be bringing to Steel City, making the switch from Weigel’s ABC affil in South Bend, IN, WBND. He was CSD with ABC’s very own Toledo operation until it was sold…and Director of Marketing and Promotion at WTEN in Albany. A proud grad of Michigan State (do not confuse Michigan State with the University of Michigan…just don’t do it), Terry was even in Rockford IL along the way. He’ll be having a blast in his new town, with a Trader Joe’s soon opening near his new place. No doubt he’ll have to get to know all the Well Dunne! Talents calling Pittsburgh home. Pittsburgh is the home of so many very creative people. For instance, several Well Dunne! Talent’s are Pittsburghers and, with the exception of some nasty winter weather, they love it. JAY SILVERS even likes the cold. Come early December, Pittsburgh will welcome yet another creative when JENNY DOLPH checks into her new position at Hearst’s WTAE where she’ll be the News Brand Producer. Jenny is an Indiana native who has a sheepskin from Perdue. She’s built up some producer chops in her home state, at stations like WLFI, WSJV and WNDU doing on-air promos. She handled six different Gray TV stations as Web Editor and has been at her current post as Promo Producer at WBND for several years. CSD TERRY KOWALSKI is going to miss her for sure. Got some wires crossed about Indianapolis. Reported that adorable KATIE WARTHAN had been tapped as Promo Manager at WXIN…but that was not on the mark. South Bend’s WBND CSD TERRY KOWALSKI is having a pretty amazing week. He kickstarted it Sunday with a birthday celebration. Next up, he’ll don a cap and gown to receive his Masters degree in Public Relations from Kent State University. He’s worked hard for that special sheepskin…CSD by day and student by free time. Where does he get the energy? He’s a great guy. No word on what he will be wearing under the gown. Well Dunne! Terry!

After taking time to get his Masters from Kent State, entertainment marketing veteran TERRY KOWALSKI is getting back in the creative pool. Mr. T’s resume, which as we just learned, now has a Masters in Advertising credit, is going to begin listing his new stint as CSD in South Bend, where he’ll be overseeing ABC affil WBND, the CW25 and 3 digital channels. Mr K will make the transition from Toledo, where he was CSD for ABC’s WTVG. He spent time doing creative for WTEN in Albany and has a fascinating “omg, he can work all those machines!” list of successes at WTVO in Rockford and WDIV in Detroit. He’s a proud Michigan State grad who will be close to the state line in his new gig. With his birthday on the horizon, he can’t think of a better gift, except he is welcoming any gift cards for those so inclined. Hugs and a big Well Dunne! Terry!
OK you New York peeps. Going to the Emmy Awards? Yes, this Saturday night at the Times Square Marriott Marquis. You’re in for a treat no matter what the menu, drink selection or statue haul ends up. Well Dunne! Talent’s MARIAN MASSARO will be your announcer. Yes, the lovely (and lovely sounding) Marian will mark her second year at the gala and she’s thrilled to be a part of the festivities. What a lucky lady CHRISTINA ROMENTO Is….she gets to work with DON SMITH and DREW FOWLER at Sacramento’s KOVR. Christina is making the switch from being at FOX in Austin (shout out to DANI DUDEK). Christina is a writer producer of the promo variety and has worked at FOX Chicago and FOX Portland as well as KGMB in Hawaii. She’s a Washington State U grad who is going to be much closer to her family in California’s capital. Well Dunne! Christina.

Former ABC Toledo CSD TERRY KOWALSKI is on the lookout for jobs that would bring him further East…closer to his children. New York is the aim. So all you folks about to make a hire…give Terry the first shot.

DALE WYMAN is proof that what happens in Vegas does not always stay in Vegas. After a long, long time in Sin City at the NBC affil, and time at the helm of the NBC promotion board as chairman, he’s heading to Albuquerque’s Hearst operation, KOAT. He filled in last November for Hearst in Sacramento, which is home to the former KOAT CSD, LARRY KELLOGG. Small world. Dale et familia will now have front row seats for the annual Balloon Festival. Great news…Well Dunne! Dale.
What about the Super Bowl spots? Creative pro TERRY KOWALSKI rings in from Toledo (ya’ll need to keep Terry on the hiring radar)
TERRY: Overall, the Super Bowl commercials were a disappointment due to a lack of creativity and not pounding home the brand. One spot in particular that did catch my eye, and will reinforce my choice at the vending machine, was the Snickers spot which stayed on task with recent marketing and made me laugh (memorable moment). The E-Trade spots with the babies are always fun and you look forward to what the ‘little ones’ are going to say next… even though I still didn’t find it clear as to why I should trade stocks on line with this company. I was happy to see the Clydesdales again representing Budweiser as they have become a staple for many classic commercials in the big game. However, the Bud Light spots gave me the feeling only drunken fools drink that product.
There seemed to be nothing new with the GoDaddy.com campaign (recycled creative) and I can’t recall half of the other dot coms that were advertised. I did find it interesting the promercials that aired, which were a take-off of LOST (ABC) and the use of characters from the Simpsons (FOX), as an interesting way to attract viewers who normally don’t watch these programs. But, I still am not sure what product they were pitching… was it Coke?
Finally, the biggest let down of all was the spot for Taco Bell where a major teaser campaign was launched and the thought that something big was going to happen on February 7th. Hats off to the NFL for making the game the best part of the Super Bowl… and don’t forget free Grand Slams at Denny’s on Tuesday (I actually may wait in line).
