With all the energy going into the Mueller Report (or lack thereof) today, this Holy Thursday is shaping up to be more unusual than, uh, normal. Anybody find irony is the fact April 18 is the date when Paul Revere did his famous ride in Massachusetts? And the very day the American Revolution was declared over, beginning the long independent road to today. And the day of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Hmmm.
See what just happened there? It was a list of sorts. Which brings up to the new marketing guru at Scripps’ The List syndie. ALI GHARIB is his own guy but he’ll probably stick around handling promos and marketing. He comes to the desert from Charlotte where he was Sr. Writer Producer at Speed Channel/Fox Sports and was On-Air Promo Supervisor at the WB/UPN in the market. He’s a Florida Gator. Well Dunne! Ali.

Joining the what appears to be a growing list of TV creative who are getting into the medical field is the muy talented LAUREL PORTIE. She’s been at Scripps’ The List, handling social marketing for that show as well as the Pickler & Ben syndie. Oh, she even shot and produced segments as well. Official title Social Media Strategist and Content Producer. Lots of hats on one head. She’ll be handling social media for the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, which is so close to where she lives, it’s a perk. Ms. Laurel is a Louisiana lady who started in TV at KLAX, Alexandria. Started in the promo world early. Next stop was as Sr. Writer Producer at WNCT in North Carolina then on to Big D as Brand Manager of KTVT, CBS in Dallas-Ft. Worth. She went down I-35 to San Antonio and the Sinclair stations where she jumped on the social media bus and has now gotten behind the drivers seat. She was in Seattle before heading to The List. Besides being part of the Topical Boot Camp group (more news on that to come) she’s planning a March wedding. TV is losing a gem in this busy wonderful lady. A big Well Dunne!

It’s St. Pats, as you know. On this day in 461, the man known as St. Patrick (he was never formally canonized) died. Contrary to legend, he did not drive the snakes out of Ireland, although there are no snakes in Ireland and driving snakes out of any area is definitely grounds for being a saint. Celebrate accordingly.
What do you do after work…if there is anything now considered ‘after work’? One very smart, energetic creative has started her own side business and, as an added bonus, she’s written an e-book about marketing. Makes you feel a little like a slacker, doesn’t it. Don’t let it get to you…but do request a copy of LAUREL PORTIE’s book entitled Instagram Empire: Copy My 3 Step Strategy to Make Your First 1k Online. Laurel’s day job is Social Media Strategist/Content Producer for Scripps’ syndie show The List. When the factory whistle blows, she puts her Boss hat on and has set up an online business selling shirts for ladies who like to bicycle. There was a need…she filled it and that’s marketing as you know. Hand in hand with the tee-shirt biz came the book. Being a social media maven, it was a natural. Ms. Laurel calls Louisiana home and has done promo for KTVT in Dallas as well as KABB in San Antonio. Drop her a line, ask for the book (it’s FREE…yes F-R-E-E) or go to here ….and don’t forget to tell her Well Dunne! Laurel.

What a long, slog of a week. But, from every face plant to the canvas, we rise…and better, bigger adventures greet us. Mold our growth. So, with that in mind, let’s focus at some fun things from promo types here and there, like WAHEED ALQAWASMI, late of TV promo at FOX in Memphis (Cox’s WHBQ) . He‘s in Oxford, Mississippi this weekend with his film, Lives Restarted for the Oxford Film Fest. It’s a documentary about Holocaust survivors…how they survived the camps, made their way here to the US, to Memphis specifically. How they restarted their lives…rose up. Can’t wait to see it – it’s more important now than ever. If you’re anywhere near Mississippi, go. Well Dunne! Waheed.
The List’s Social Media guru LAUREL PORTIE doesn’t just go home and collapse in a heap on the sofa. No no no. She and her partner have She Bikes, a line of shirts for ladies who love to cycle…it’s great. And, since I’m not in government, I can tell you to buy one or two. Hit up Laurel or me for details.
Next time, we’ll introduce the new News Brand Manager at WTAE in Pittsburgh. Yehaw! Til then stay warm or head south. Well Dunne! everyone for surviving the week.

Ms. Suzanne is heading west to join the team at Scripps’ The List, where she’ll be a lovely addition to the station-savvy creatives like LAUREL PORTIE and BRANDT DOTSON. Suzanne is departing the writer producer slot at Tegna’s WTSP, which is in another amazingly ideal market, Tampa. A New Hampshire native, she’s been lucky enough to follow a career path that includes promoting in Myrtle Beach, Portland Maine and Seattle. The crystal ball sees many happy days ahead, in the sunshine, waving at some cactus, poolside. Well Dunne! Suzanne.

If you’re making a list of up and comers…promo creatives who are gonna BE a big deal in short order….who make you smile when you realize how fast they’ve caught on to the marketing needs of their particular entity, you better have LAUREL PORTIE on that list. Laurel, whose last name is pronounced port-tee-YAY which is tres francaise, has been named Social Media Strategist at Scripps’ syndicated series The List. The Louisiana lady had been a promo producer for them. Speaking of promo roles, she’s been at KTVT in Dallas, Sinclair’s FOX in San Antonio as well as KIRO and WNCT. Obviously doing very wow-able work. She knows social so look for excitement coming via all our devices, apps and the like. No secret how evocative the name Valley of the Sun is. Phoenix’s nickname alludes to the idea of market #12 being an oasis in the great Southwest high country. Magical in a way. An amazing locale that is home to a burgeoning creative sector. The latest creative member to hit the city limits is LAUREL PORTIE. Ms. Laurel is reporting for work as the new promo writer-producer for The List, the syndicated strip produced by Scripps at their KNXV locale. A native of south Louisiana, she’ll handle the heat very well, thanks for asking. Sans humidity, it will be devine. Laurel has the knack for promotion and has worked and learned at such operations as CBS’s KTVT in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Sinclair’s operation in San Antonio and Media General’s WNCT in Greenville, NC. (All humidity markets, fyi). It’s a mutual admiration society with her new boss, ED ROTH, Marketing Manager for The List. BTW, Ms. Laurel is also a musician and has played all over – ask her about Mrs. Howel. A big smile along with a huge Well Dunne! Laurel.

Desert living is great…hot dry air, spectacular sunrises and sets, cacti. Phoenix is particularly excellent; surrounded by mountains and full of art, cuisine, shopping and talented people. The next new talent in the Valley of the Sun isn’t exactly new…he lived there in the past and is excited to return, not just to family but to a terrific new job. The Welcome Back matt is out for BRANDT DOTSON who is going to work for Scripps’ nationally syndicated The List. Yes, he’s going to be writing and producing promos, and he’s quite good at it. For the last year or so, he’s been in Tulsa at KJRH. Before that he honed his craft in Sacramento’s Hearst station as well as in Tucson. He’ll be working with the uber-talented ED ROTH so all kind of fireworks are on the horizon. Big Well Dunne! Brandt. Hope your oral surgery went well.
All the best wishes in the world going out to promo lady GAYLE GLUCK who just got engaged. The founder of Our Gang Productions is so happy, you can feel her smile through the pixels.
