It’s really the American Dream personified. From intern to President of a huge company in eight years.  Sounds like a movie script, but it’s the real life of JOE TAMANINI,  recently promoted to President of Studio City, the branding marketing company, in Studio City, the town in the LA Valley. The small town Pennsylvania kid was first Intern, then Production Editor, then Head of Creative Department, then VP and now, the big chair. Joe studied Broadcasting at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. Obviously, he paid attention. A great big Well Dunne! Joe.

Friday was a busy one for Well Dunne!’s KELLY PIDGEON, who had to bug out of the KDKA Spaghetti Breakfast to cover the hostage situation in Pittsburgh. The same one that kept the folks at KDKA-TV holed up in their station. TINA VEON, CSD of the TV side, was Facebooking the day, proving that social media is indeed changing how a story unfolds. Kelly was the first on the scene and kept the info coming, even with spaghetti sauce on his hands. Can you imagine what people thought of that – the spaghetti sauce, not the info.

DREW FIELD…is that the perfect name for a Graphic Artist? Why yes…Drew and art/graphics…think about it… the perfect match. We bring it up because Drew is the new Graphic Artist at Pittsburgh’s CBS’s KDKA. He’s moving 243 miles west from Harrisburg, where he was doing that graphics thing at CBS affil WHP. Thanks to the charming TINA VEON, CSD at KDKA, for the heads up. Well Dunne! Drew.

Congrats on the promotion out at LA’s trailer house Trailer Park, where DREW PLATT is the newest member of the VP club. His official title is VP, Producer Theatrical. The Tulane grad has an MBA from Southampton College of Long Island University and has worked at Warner’s doing publicity.

No, the fact that the post would be about two Drews was in no way planned or expected.

What can the Rolling Stones teach corporate America about managing partnerships? Quite a lot, actually, since Mick and Keith have been able to keep that whole Stones thing going – successfully – for quite sometime now. Check it out, loves.

KEVIN GORYL is heading back to the Midwest…to Cincinnati actually. He’ll take his first shot at running a Creative Services Department when he steps behind the desk at Raycom’s FOX affil, WXIX. Kevin has spent time at KTVI in St. Louis (hometown high five), as well as two DC stations – WTTG and W*USA. Well Dunne! Kevin. Remember, the folks in Cincy put cinnamon in their chile, so be on the lookout for that.

The sudden, tragic death of 27 yr old JOHN BILLINGSLEY, who worked as a news photog at WLOS in Asheville, hit close to home – he was a friend of my son MATTHEW. A grad of Appalachian  State University in Boone, NC, John had worked at WLOS as well as a short stint as a photog in Memphis. But the Delta wasn’t the mountains, and John returned to the area that made him happy. He is greatly missed by those he worked with as well as his many, many friends.

Those of you who are so inclined, please remember KDKA CSD TINA VEON’s father as well as former WNCN Special Sales MARYANN BALBO’s father. Both are struggling with major health challenges.

Is your station doing Haiti relief outreach? If so, please share. Good ideas for a common cause is what networking is about, n’est-ce pas?
