Giggling because it’s soooo Well Dunn….who is the new CSD at Sarasota’s WWSB, ABC in America’s Riviera? None other than JOSEPH DUNN. Love it! And the coincidences don’t end there. He’s making the switch from Charlotte (!) where he was Digital Marketing Manager for ROBBY THOMAS’ hot WBTV shop there in the Queen City. He was promoted to that slot having been a writer producer – all while earning an MBA from UNC-Charlotte. Impressive. Mr. D picked up the promo trade from WSPA in the Greenville-Spartanburg market of upstate South Carolina. WSPA is about to become Raycom (if it hasn’t already) so Joseph is transferring within the company for this exciting new position. You are going to love Sarasota, Joseph. See you soon and Well Dunne!
Let’s face it…business isn’t anything at all like business was five years ago. Boy have things changed. With that in mind, here’s to the new Life After TV section of the WDTB (Well Dunne! Talent blog) which will be about people who used to do network/cable/station marketing on a daily basis but have taken those talents and moved on. Yes, the many talents, skills and ideas that you use daily (hourly actually) have tremendous value outside the narrow confines of the business as it has morphed today. Tremendous value. More about the basis for that in just short order, but let’s shine our light on our first LATV (Life After TV) person today: KEVIN KOLBE. Kevin is an amazing man…faithful, father deluxe and creative as can be. When WRAL had a shakeup in their department, Kevin found himself (for the first time since high school) looking for work. He had headed up marketing for FOX there, another Capital property. So what does a highly creative man do? Use those skills. And he’s using them to document his search for his next step. It’s a vlog and you should YouTube it and sign up to watch them all. Bet you identify with him…and for heavens sake, let’s find him something that moves the planet forward. He deserved the best. JASON KANE, who is Citizen Kane (right?) is the new Promotion Manager for Raycom’s WBTV in Charlotte, the Queen City. He began just this Monday and moves into his new place this weekend. Yep, he hit the ground running at the CBS affil, what with all that’s been going on. Despite the hectic pace, he sounded cool and very energized about his new slot. Jason is originally from Toledo, Ohio. How did he get from Toledo to NC? It happened when he was doing graphics and animation for an ad agency who sent him to Raleigh. He loved it…and became interested in news and before you knew it, he was using his agency skills for a TV station; he was Sr. Writer and Producer for WNCN in Raleigh, working with CSD ROBBY THOMAS. They produced an amazing and award-winning spot about school busses…you should ask them about it. Then, Robby took the WBTV CSD slot. But now, the two are working together, just further down I-85. The Multimedia Producer produces branded content, promotional spots, commercials, integrated content and long form production for KPTV-KPDX on all current and future platforms. This role will be essential support of news and revenue growth for both KPTV and KPDX.
Essential Job Functions:
80% Working with stakeholders, write, produce, shoot and edit branded content, promotional spots, commercials, integrated content and long form content on all current and future KPTV-KPDX platforms, including but not limited to on-air, online, social media and community events.
20% Other duties as assigned in support of marketing, news, sales and general administration
All must be met to be considered.
4-year degree in Advertising, Marketing, Broadcast Journalism, Communications or a related field, or equivalent training or experience.
Three or more years’ experience as a Multimedia Producer writing, producing, shooting and editing advertising content, promotional spots, image campaigns and/or branded content for television, cable, digital and/or advertising agency.
Two or more years’ experience project management and hands-on production experience.
Must have portfolio of projects in which applicant served as producer
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must possess creative, advertising and production skills.
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Cinema 4D and Avid technology.
Must be able to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
Must possess excellent writing and graphic skills.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Working knowledge of broadcast logs and inventory control a plus.
Must have ability to maintain focus and composure in a creative, stressful, and fast paced environment.
Must have strong decision making skills –often on the spot.
Must be results orientated and meet tight deadlines.
Must be experienced with all aspects of social media.

Yes, there really are places that only have one traffic light and yet growing up happens in such locales, producing some mighty creative people. Take Hickox, GA for example. It’s where ROBBY THOMAS was raised and now he’s headed to Charlotte to be CSD at Raycom’s legacy CBS affil, WBTV. Mr. T and his wife (plus two miniature schnauzers) will be calling the Queen City home after their sojourn in the Raleigh market, where Robby was CSD for Media General/LIN’s NBC affil WNCN. First off in his leisure time will be some golf, white water rafting at the White Water Center and probably checking out the NASCAR events, what with Charlotte calling itself ‘home to NASCAR’ and all. No stranger to the Charlotte sports world, Robbie was a Charlotte Hornets fan when growing up. As a Georgia Bulldog, Robby will be a huge fan of Thomas Davis. For those of you not sports-centric, just Google Up the info you need. Meanwhile, safe and happy travels down I-85 to the new gig, Robby. Well Dunne!
CHUCK CAREY has joined mOcean, the LA-based creative agency and prodco for entertainment. His title is Chief Development Officer. Chuck’s also been President of Troika Design. The Choate/Rosemary Hall and Northwestern grad even got to go to Pepperdine to get his PKE MBA. Very cool. Well Dunne! Chuck.
