Human nature, being what it is, finds people and places and even things that are more important, or exciting or treasured than others. It happens. So if this exciting news about ROBERT DWYER being named Marketing Director of WCNC, NBC in Charlotte, sounds a little over the top – just live with it. Mr. D is in the favorite category for several reasons, one being that he graduated from Ferris State in Big Rapids, Michigan. Anybody know that the Bulldogs have an amazing tennis program? Yep, they sure do. Not that Rob was enrolled in the tennis program, since he was focused on TV production. A man with an artistic eye, he ran his own freelance biz after producing and designing for Color Bars, Inc. before going south to Orlando where he honed his art at the WB station, WKCF. The WOFL operation in the Big O is where he spent time doing creative and getting the Promotion Manager slot before taking the Senior Director of Creative Services job at The Golf Channel. He moved north to handle Director of Marketing and Audience Development for Fox affil WHNS in Greenville, SC (the station is right smack dab on I-85) and now he’s off Billy Graham Parkway in the city named after Queen Charlotte. All so very exciting. Yes, there’s more but you get the idea he’s got a plum spot and he’ll shine. Well Dunne! Rob.
New Orleans folks…seems that this weekend might be mighty dicey. Water coming down from the sky, down from up north and up from the Gulf might be a bad combo. Lots of weather and news to cover, but….
Think About This: “Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things break. And all things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you.” ~ L. R. Knost
The movie Uncle Buck…big favorite, right? Absolutely. Remember the high school where Buck drops off his very embarrassed niece? That’s New Trier High in Winnetka, IL and it’s where ANDREW CALIENDO went. Fast forward to now, and with New Trier far behind him,he’s going to Charlotte to fill the long-vacant Creative Services Director slot at Tegna’s WCNC, NBC in the Queen City. He’ll be making the switch from LIN/Media General’s WIAT in Birmingham. Andrew’s got a great background in TV marketing, starting as Creative Services Manager at KVIA in El Paso. He went to Meredith’s KPHO in Phoenix and would return there as Promo Manager. Stops along the way include Los Angeles’ KABC as News Promo Manager and CSD at KVOA in Tucson. He’s on the Ones To Watch List, so expect to see some exciting work on air in NC beginning in late June. He’ll be in Vegas at PROMAX, so look him up to say a Big Well Dunne! Andrew.
Job Alert – CSD WIAT Birmingham
Major kudos, gold stars and Well Dunne! to NBC TV Network. They send an email to those who apply for jobs via their website. Wow…a communication company that communicates. How bout that! Making candidates feel wanted, even if they don’t get any further than sending in their info. This is a simple, inexpensive (read mainly free) way to improve the image of your company. Do it, as Nike says. There’s really no reason not to.
Think About This: “Anything that annoys you is teaching you patience. Anyone who abandons you is teaching you to stand on your own two feet. Anything that angers you is teaching you forgiveness and compassion. Anything that has power over you is teaching you how to take your power back. Anything you hate is for teaching you unconditional love. Anything you fear is for teahing you courage to overcome your fear. Anything you can’t control is for teaching you to let go and trust the Universe.” ~ Jackson Kiddard
