Another creative light has gone out. STEFAN GERBER passed away while in surgery on Thursday. Gerber was a master of words….a man whose ability to communicate was unparalleled. A former colleague said he learned from him…such things as ‘take the last idea on a piece of copy and use that last line as the first line for the rewrite.” That was the essence of Stefan – pushing you to think one step beyond the obvious. Brilliant. Strong. Gerber was one of the names and leaders of the uber-creative LA-based Jacobs & Gerber agency. They employed the top of the line talents of the day, devising award-winning as well as ratings generating work for many of the CBS operating units, ie Entertainment, O&O’s and News. In recent years, Stefan was the Creative Director for Air Planet at Planet 365. A UCLA grad with a Masters degree in English, he did his undergrad work at Berkeley. His talent must have been genetic; his sons went into the advertising industry. Please think of his family and remember to push yourself beyond the safe zone. All our work becomes our legacy.

They’re all safe….the Well Dunne! Talent voices that live and work in Mexico City. LILIANA DE MIGUEL, who not only announces but also translates (take note you NBC folks who have the Spanish side to deal with) had to walk 6 miles home, but her place was OK, if not glass-less. The windows in DF were major victims. CHRIS SMITH had a duble whammy….the quake shook things up but didn’t do major damage in Mexico. However, he lives part time in Houston, and there was flooding. When the quake hit, he reported the very first piece on CNN out of Mexico in English that day… in front of the fallen General Hospital. Both are very grateful. Well Dunne!

Talk about a perfect day. Take picture perfect LA weather…mix in the amazing GEORGIA SCOTT and DENNIS FITCH of The Agency…add a lunch of great food but better conversation and ideas…and that, my friends, is why one of us is very happy.

The Gregorian calendar marks off another year, and so many of us reflect on what we’ve done…or sometimes have not done….over the last 365 days. We look at our bank accounts, our weight, our jobs, our loved ones, those who have left us and those we have added to our lives – using each event and person as a yardstick of some sort. Dissecting this adventure and planning and hoping that the upcoming days will be kind, gentle, loving, prosperous, peaceful and happy. That’s the wish to you….that your upcoming year be what you want. That the adventure makes you smile and laugh more than it brings tears. That what you seek outside yourself is gained while your inner self expands to fill your soul with wisdom. Thank you for being part of the Well Dunne! adventure in 2014. Together, let’s see what 2015 has in store.

So, after you read this Tuesday morning, you get yourself to the polls and VOTE. Ladies, I will ask you to remember who backs and who opposes fair wages for both sexes. Just think about that before pulling a lever. Make your vote Well Dunne!

The emotional connection a viewer and listener feels with the talent is tantamount to building an audience, which is the goal of marketing people no matter what area of expertise they’ve chosen. When a talent passes away, and the viewer/listener feels loss, it’s another step toward making the world feel more hollow as well as a testament to the talent, a testament to the folks who brought that talent into our scope of knowledge. When TOMMY MAGLIOZZI passed away and NPR announced it yesterday,  Monday went hollow. Cars are complicated and looking under the hood has, for some of us, been compared to reading Chinese when our native language is English. But Tommy and his brother Ray, known as Click and Clack the Tappit Brothers of NPR’s popular Car Talk show, not only educated non-mechanic types about cars, but also brought a lot of laughter to the world. Their weekend shows were more fun than car repair could ever seem to be. Tommy not only was a grad of MIT in engineering, he also got his doctorate in Marketing. Best of all, he had a laugh that was sublime. He will be terribly missed.

Have you heard or seen what has been happening at the Tower of London? 888,246 red ceramic poppies are being placed in the dry moat there; each one commemorates a British and colonial death during World War One. Entitled the Blood Swept Lands And Seas of Red exhibition, it is majestic, moving, personal and a sobering remembrance of the toll of war.

CARRIE KING knows Chicago. I don’t mean just how to navigate amongst the cities, towns and streets nor do I mean which restaurants have the best of whatever it is your pallet desires. No, I mean Carrie KNOWS Chicago and as much as she know Chicago, she knows how to market even more. Whew…sounds hyperbolic, but it’s just a fact. Carrie is heading up a new entity which will draw on her days as creative at WGN and FOX up in The Windy City. New entity is tagged Creative Forces. In her own words, “Creative Forces is a group of international award-winning visual storytellers who specialize in creating break-through brand strategies that deliver high-profile and extremely profitable market positions.” How cool is that! So, all you corporate, network and cable kids…you need to mentally bookmark Carrie’s endeavor and, ahem….use her! Well Dunne! Carrie.

Yesterday, the news was about Food Network’s MIKE SMITH getting the boot upstairs to GM for the upcoming Cooking Channel. Now comes word that another promo pro, BRAD MOSES, will be GM of Media General’s WNCN, Raleigh-Durham’s NBC affiliate. Brad has already been in a GM slot –in gorgeous Savannah, GA at another Media General NBC affil, WSAV. Among the great stations where Brad has done creative work is WFLA in Tampa, WTVG in Toledo and Chicago’s WLS. Well Dunne! Brad. You’ll love the Triangle.

Looking for a new job (and so many of you are, come on…admit it)…here’s a new take on it from a rocker.

Well Dunne Talent’s CHRIS SMITH is back in Mexico City for a bit. He’s a native Spanish and English speaker, dividing his time between the capital city south of the border and Houston. But he’s still ready to translate and make your copy work in either language.

Think About This: "When we find ourselves looking at the world and saying, ‘There’s nothing out there for me,’ we should probably also look into our hearts and ask, ‘If there’s nothing out there, is there anything in here?’ We need to examine our inner dialogue to discover where we might be blocking the conscious energy flow, then remove the ego, step out of the way, and let the fire of the soul shine through us." ~ Deepak Chopra
