JASON KANE, who is Citizen Kane (right?) is the new Promotion Manager for Raycom’s WBTV in Charlotte, the Queen City. He began just this Monday and moves into his new place this weekend. Yep, he hit the ground running at the CBS affil, what with all that’s been going on. Despite the hectic pace, he sounded cool and very energized about his new slot. Jason is originally from Toledo, Ohio. How did he get from Toledo to NC? It happened when he was doing graphics and animation for an ad agency who sent him to Raleigh. He loved it…and became interested in news and before you knew it, he was using his agency skills for a TV station; he was Sr. Writer and Producer for WNCN in Raleigh, working with CSD ROBBY THOMAS. They produced an amazing and award-winning spot about school busses…you should ask them about it. Then, Robby took the WBTV CSD slot. But now, the two are working together, just further down I-85. Working with people who click is a real gift. Big Well Dunne! Jason.

In lieu of taking Sunday off and not writing, the mere fact that the date comes along just every 4 years prompted this missive. Post Oscars. It’s Leap Day. February 29. So much fun…looks odd in its own way. Maybe things for all of us will be in alignment…didn’t they seem rather out of sorts? Happy February 29th to one and all.

There are some very tired folks in the creative services departments of Capital’s WRAL and Media General’s WNCN in Raleigh. While you were watching some very clever Oscar tie-in commercials from Kohl’s and McDonalds, they swapped nets – WRAL now NBC and NCN now CBS. If you have never been involved in a network affiliate change, well, it’s the marathon of marketing. Let’s hear a big Well Dunne! for all the people who made it happen, with a particular Well Dunne! going to CSD KRISTEN BYRUM at NCN and CSD SHELLY SMITH LESLIE at RAL. Ladies, great jobs.

CLYDE BECKER loves Denver and is staying put with his new job in Multi-Media for the Media News Group. Well Dunne! Clyde.

We all live 365 days year after year, and yet there are some days that, by their events, stand out in our memories. Days marked by weddings, births, new jobs, travel destinations… This August 24th, WNCN’s new CSD KRISTEN BYRUM will experience a double memory day; she begins at the Media General station in Raleigh and her only child starts kindergarten. THAT is a big day. Kristen’s slot at WNCN brings her back to the station where she once interned…this time to lead the creative for the NBC affil. She’s been down in lovely Charleston as CSD for Media General’s CBS affil WCBD. Kristen’s promo development took her from Columbia SC’s WACH/WZRB to Greenville, SC’s WHNS to Raleigh’s FOX 50. Fear not that she’ll run out of energy…she’s a runner who has completed 7 half marathons and is working on her 8th. Must ask her if she’s taking vitamins. A big Well Dunne! to Kristen. Hope she shares pictures of that first day at school.

Start saving up your rose petals…WTVJ (NBC Miami)’s JIM GRAVINA has placed a gorgeous sparkler on the hand of his now fiancé. Happened just a moment ago….send them your best. Love love….

Well Dunne for Wednesday October 28, 2009

Yesterday, the news was about Food Network’s MIKE SMITH getting the boot upstairs to GM for the upcoming Cooking Channel. Now comes word that another promo pro, BRAD MOSES, will be GM of Media General’s WNCN, Raleigh-Durham’s NBC affiliate. Brad has already been in a GM slot –in gorgeous Savannah, GA at another Media General NBC affil, WSAV. Among the great stations where Brad has done creative work is WFLA in Tampa, WTVG in Toledo and Chicago’s WLS. Well Dunne! Brad. You’ll love the Triangle.

Looking for a new job (and so many of you are, come on…admit it)…here’s a new take on it from a rocker.

Well Dunne Talent’s CHRIS SMITH is back in Mexico City for a bit. He’s a native Spanish and English speaker, dividing his time between the capital city south of the border and Houston. But he’s still ready to translate and make your copy work in either language.

Think About This: "When we find ourselves looking at the world and saying, ‘There’s nothing out there for me,’ we should probably also look into our hearts and ask, ‘If there’s nothing out there, is there anything in here?’ We need to examine our inner dialogue to discover where we might be blocking the conscious energy flow, then remove the ego, step out of the way, and let the fire of the soul shine through us." ~ Deepak Chopra
