Austin, Texas isn’t just the capital of the Lone Star State. It’s a market that has grown like kudzu. It’s only fault, besides occasional crippling humidity, is distance from any beach. But there’s so much more, including Willie Nelson. Add CHANEL WANG to the list of cool things now in Austin. Chanel has a new producer slot at Nexstar’s KXAN, the NBC affil. Chanel comes west from North Carolina, where she had her first TV job at WNCT in Greenville under MARC MORRISTON. She has her degree from East Carolina U where she also was Lead Graphic Designer, whose work was the basis for her marketing career. Well Dunne! Chanel!
Uber-talented MARK VALENTINE has some exciting news. He’s taking his ANATOMY and joining forces with Leroy & Clarkson. He’s going to be Chief Creative Officer working alongside Leroy & Clarkson’s KATE HILLIS, COO. Yep, they’ll be able to do it all for you. Well Dunne! you two.

Think About This: “Don’t break a bird’s wing and then tell it to fly. Don’t break a heart and then tell it to be happy. Don’t see the worst in a person and expct them to see the best in you. Don’t judge people and expect them to stand by your side. Don’t play with fire and expect to stay safe. You cannot expect to give bad and receive good. You cannot expect to give hate and receive love. So if you’re willing to see positive changes in your life, you must be willing to be that change itself.” ~ Najwa Zebian
It’s always so warming to watch and hear about someone embarking on their career. It’s like watching flowers bloom, in a way. One such budding talent just took a job as a producer for CSD MARC MORRISTON at Nexstar’s WNCT, CBS in Greenville, NC. Welcome to BRYCE SAWYER. Her hire underscores that networking is gonna be your best friend. I’ll let Marc explain: “She is from North Carolina and interestingly applied for a News Producer position, the News Director brought me her resume saying it was probably more a fit for Marketing. Her resume was sitting on my desk when my now former Producer, who’s at KXAN, was talking with me and saw it. She said ‘I know her, we went to school together at ECU’ and gave her a big thumbs up. From there we brought her in for an interview and hired her. Talk about the resume being in the right place at the right time.” The ECU is East Carolina U and she has an MFA in Film Producing from North Carolina School of the Arts. Shall we all give Bryce a big Well Dunne!
Friday is shaping up to be a great TGIF…more than the average because they’re all good, right?! This Friday finds Well Dunne! Talent’s KELLY PIDGEON kicking on the day by being the interviewee on Pittsburgh’s Y108, talkinga bout his band, Boats Against the Current, who are set to perform Friday evening at Indiana, PA hotspot Off the Rocks. Anybody literate enough to get the name of the band? Kelly was, at one time, an English teacher at a prestigious prep school.. Now he’s voicing when he’s not music-ing.
And let’s not overlook that Friday is considered to be National Irish Coffee Day. Excellent. Indeed. Comport as you see fit.

A lot going on in the Carolinas. Good thing WSOC has NIKKI OOSTRA onboard as a promo producer. She was most recently at Nexstar’s WNCT in Greenville NC where her CSD, the uber-talented MARC MORRISTON, was thrilled with her. You can’t hold a muy-talented person back, and Nikki made the switch to the ABC affil in the Queen City. Queen Charlotte people. Look her up. Big statue at the airport. Nikki has a background as a Director of newscasts, which means she is cool under pressure. She’d recently worked at WPDE in Myrtle Beach, at WSPA in Spartanburg, and at WACH in Columbia. All South Carolina. She calls Coal City, Illinois home. Again, Google it. She’s super and fun and we all say Well Dunne Nikki.

The very week she begins as an official promo producer, NAOMI PIECE has a hurricane to deal with. A Major hurricane to be precise. As they say in the south, bless her heart. The young marketing pro was studying journalism and landed an internship at WNCT, the Nexstar CBS/CW duop in Greenville, NC. Greenville is about an hour and a half from the ocean, but Florence might muscle through like a member of the Russian mob to rough up eastern NC. Back to Naomi…she was doing the news internship and on her last day, she sat with CSD MARC MORRISTON (a favorite!) and his crew. She fell in love with TV marketing, and when she went back to college (either UNC Pembroke or East Carolina – she went to both) she focused on marketing and promotion. How terrific. She’s new but is fitting in like a vet. Naomi, you’ll have a great story to tell. What a way to begin! Well Dunne! and best of luck to you Naomi!

Seventeen years since the towers fell. Americans, in those 17 years, have forgotten how unified we were then. They’ve turned on the media. Turned on truth. Turned on ‘those people’ whomever that may be. Let this 9-11 anniversary be a time to reconsider the divisions and wonder if all the days of living since that perfect September morning in New York might have brought about a different result. As Gandi said…be the change you want to see.

Sometimes, a good producer arrives on your doorstep thanks to their spouses new job. Yes, follow the thread here. When NIKKI OOSTRA’s husband got transferred to Greenville, NC, it was the perfect timing for Marketing Director (and major favorite) MARC MORRISTON, who was on the hunt for a talented marketing producer. As you no doubt have surmised, NIKKI is now on board at the Nexstar owned WNCT, CBS. She has a background as a Director of newscasts, which means she really is cool under pressure. She’d recently worked at WPDE in Myrtle Beach, at WSPA in Spartanburg, and at WACH in Columbia. All South Carolina. Love to see creative solutions to promo producer problems. Now it’s time for PROMO BOOT CAMP!! (blatant self promotion). Nikki, Marc’s team is a great place to be. Well Dunne!

So much going on…so little desire to do anything that isn’t “summer-related.” Luckily, AARON BEVILL doesn’t feel that way. He’s the new Creative Services Manager for WNCT and ENCT, the CBS and CW affils in eastern Carolina, namely Greenville. It’s a promotion…love hearing about promotions. Before he was tapped for CSM, Aaron was working nights as writer producer, which he did so well he won an Emmy for his work…only the fifth golden statue in the history of Greenville TV which led to the stations winning their first CBS Eye on Excellence Award for promotion. Aaron is a grad of Eastern Carolina U and loves basketball and his new baby. He also knows how to fix yachts. Yes, he can fix yachts. Now how many can list that on a resume? Sounds like this is a great year for Aaron and the stations. CSD MARC MORRISTON is very proud of the whole thing. Well Dunne! Aaron.
