The American southwest is one of a kind. There’s nothing exactly like it, even though there are deserts that dwarf it in size and scope. But here in the states, our desert has brought forth art and history and mythology…mesas and vistas….saguaro cacti. Cowboys and westerns. The one thing missing (ok, there’s a few, but work with me here) is green. It’s pretty sparse and far between. Trees, flowers, grass…not so much. And rain. Well, you guys east of the Mississippi have had more than your fair share, while the west side of the river has been pretty dry. When BEN BATES takes the Multimedia Marketing Producer slot at Atlanta’s WXIA, he’ll be returning to the green that’s he’s missed while in Albuquerque as Assistant CSD for Hearst’s KOAT. Ben’s first TV job was at WVLA in Baton Rouge before he made the jump to KDVR in Denver. Both green. He then did a turn at Craftsy Network in the Mile High City before heading to DEILIA WILLIAMS’ creative team in The Q. A big thanks to him for pointing out that southern sweet tea is available at Chick-fil-A for those who crave it and are not in areas where it’s served most anywhere. Big Well Dunne! Ben.

Lovely AMANDA WHITE has taken the creative reins at Atlanta’s WXIA. The lucky lady is an Atlanta native who now has the title Marketing Director of the NBC affiliate. She’s no stranger to the station – she’s been promoted from Director of Insights and Strategic Marketing. She was also Research Director and handled Paid Programming Sales Coordination at one time. The soft-spoken lady also part of the team at the Weather Channel as National Copy Coordinator and did a marketing internship at Atlanta-based Gospel Music Channel (now  UPtv Network). She has an MBA from University of Georgia. What a peach. Well Dunne! Amanda.

A quick Well Dunne! to ALISON HOFFMAN upped to CMO from EVP Marketing at Starz in LA. She’s a Brown grad, who’s also done marketing magic at AMC Nets.

What’s better than one adorable pink bundle of joy little girl? TWO adorable pink bundle of joy little girls. Congrats to KGO’s CANDACE ARCHER on her new family addition. Big sister now has little sister!

LARRY WATZMAN is always full of surprises – always doing that little unexpected thing that makes his work (and his life) ever so interesting. One such surprise is now public – he’s heading to the long-vacant WBNS Creative Services Director slot in Columbus. In Ohio…the most wonderful name to write. Go ahead…it’s really fun to write. Anyway…Larry is going to start in June at the Dispatch-owned NBC affil in Ohio’s capital. He’ll be departing Tegna’s NBC affil in Atlanta, WXIA, where they just got nominated for a boatload of Emmys. Must have been doing something right. The Boston U grad has worked at Comcast in Philly, where he impressed the best editor I know, as well as headed up creative for NBC in Dallas, WIBV in Buffalo and was part of a Stephen Arnold Music initiative called RevNu (which might not be spelled correctly…). Larry’s a rock star at heart and whenever he comes close to a guitar. Yes, he’s a great source for music knowledge (dibs on Larry should there be a spontaneous trivia game that breaks out with him nearby). So, for Larry, it’s Hello Columbus. Well Dunne!

Sincere sympathy going out to PR man RAY ECKE, whose father made his transition.  He was no doubt proud of Ray, who is a super great guy.

Is this face red? Oh yeah, brilliantly red. Last week, you read about John Goodman and his new job at LA’s The Hit House as VP of Music Supervision. Well, as it’s not John but JESSE GOODMAN with that new music gig. I am SO sorry.  The actor John Goodman isn’t a very nice guy at all, and I know Jesse is. So it’s a double extra super uber apology and I owe Jesse a drink. You owe him your business.
