If WXYZ isn’t one of the best call letters, well…they’re super call letters, actually. They belong to Scripps’ ABC affiliate in Southfield, Michigan, which is of course Detroit. About 13 miles from their location is Hamtramck High School, where PHILIP WROBEL graduated before heading off to get his degree from Michigan State. Philip is going to be the new Creative Services Director at WXYZ, and he calls that his ‘dream job’. How lovely is that…returning to the ideal job and his hometown. He’s a lucky man.  Phil will be leaving his Marketing Director job in Richmond, VA at WTVR, Tribune’s CBS affil; he’ll begin his new job in early October. Phil started his TV career as a photog at WSYM in Lansing and was also at KLRT in Little Rock and was CSD at KARK, NBC in Arkansas’ capital. Philip’s wife is a Detroit native, so it’s a double homecoming – the family will be closer to grandparents, etc. A huge Well Dunne! Phil.

A fascinating article on why you can never get everything on your To Do List done…and why you aren’t getting more money in your paycheck.

It’s the perfect time to be in Michigan – summer. And its particularly sweet when you have a great new job, as is the case with PHIL KRAPOHL, who is now heading up the creative efforts at WEYI, the Sinclair-owned NBC affil in the Flint-Saginaw-Bay City market. Phil’s new gig is about an hour up I-75 from Detroit, where he was a Writer-Producer for Detroit’s WXYZ for the one-and-only CSD DAVE BAUMANN. Before WXYZ, Phil was a W/P at WJRT when Disney owned that station.  Yes, WJRT is in the Flint market, so Phil already has a handle on the Ins and Outs. BTW, Sinclair is going to build a brand new, state-of-the-art facility for the good folks at WEYI. Sweet. Well Dunne! Phil.

He’s just one of the many impressive speakers slated for the Cynopsis Sports Business Summit set for June 16 in NYC. Heading to NAB next week? If yes, then you need to make sure and stop by to say hi to BONNIE BARCLAY, who sent along this info: real world augmented reality graphics, FX Design Group and HybridTV have them at this year’s NAB.  Without breaking the bank, your graphics department or your hub can easily execute data driven investigations, election coverage, weather trends or special assignment pieces.  If you are not hitting Vegas this year, send your Chief to see what virtual can do for you or email Bonnie at barclay@FXgroup.tv

Former promo pro (KMTV/Omaha and WAFF/Huntsville Director of Marketing) TODD LONG has a new gig incorporating all the best of promo with, you know, like an agency. He’s the Audience Solutions man at Alabama Media Group. Yep, staying in Space City. Well Dunne! Todd.

Well Dunne! Talent’s MARIAN MASSARO is at it – and NYC is loving it. She’ll be live announcing the New York Emmy Awards, set for May 2. All you New Yorkers are in for a treat and if you were at the gala last year, you know how super she is. Well Dunne! and hope to see ya soon Marian!

Job Alert  – writer producers WXYZ Detroit (work for the best aka DAVE BAUMANN)

Did this week just whiz by or what?! Kudos to the community bank that caught the crooks trying to drain a certain bank account that is close to my wallet and heart. Talk about being on top of things – smaller banks are the best. I don’t believe one would get that kind of service with the Too Big To Fail guys.
