Don’t you just love it when a ‘hometown’ guy makes good. Not like Horatio Alger, but more like seeing a seed turn into a gorgeous tree. So it has come to pass (stop rolling your eyes – Covid lockdown is exacting a toll) that Jacksonville’s own BLAKE BRYANT, who started in TV punching news at WJKS TV on Hogan Road, was named Head of Communications for Warner Brothers Entertainment. That new title is for global comms, so it’s very impressive indeed. It all started when he took the step away from buttons to becoming Graphics Director for WFLA when the wonderful MARSHALL HITES left Jax for Tampa Bay. The two of them worked together like salt and pepper…just right. From Tampa to LA’s KCAL Blake’s biz card read Creative Services Director, as it did at KPIX in San Fran. He switched to NBC to wrangle creative for KNBC, WMAQ and even KNTV then joined up with The Mouse as VP Creative Service for Disney ABC Domestic TV. Then to Warners where he got Marketing in his titles and took on Scripted and Unscripted entertainment projects. And that, as they say, is the story. Very happy for him and sending him a Jacksonville-inspired Well Dunne!
It’s time we discuss titles. No, not today, but the diverse and confusing use of titles for creative roles in the business is out of hand. You don’t see CEO’s called Head Money Manager do you? No. No you do not. More thoughts welcome and coming soon.
