Former promo pro ROBBY THOMAS became GM at WTVY in  Dothan, Alabama and just got the bump to a larger market – he’s been named as the new GM of WIS-TV in Columbia, SC. Yes, the southern man is staying south which no doubt makes him very happy. Robby has done his promo thing in Charlotte as well as Raleigh at WBTV and WNCN respectfully. The whipped cream on the cake is his most adorable baby boy. Life is good. Well Dunne! Robby.

Working in tandem with the Creative Services Director – the Promotion Manager is responsible for developing, creating, and supervising News, Sales and Community Affairs content for Kansas City’s premiere CBS affiliate.

In addition, this position will also assist in placing outside media, wide orbit scheduling, commercial production and any other content-based projects.

The Promotion Manager will serve as lead producer to help create high-end promotional materials for the purpose of increasing ratings and retention – for targeted audiences on-air, online, and streaming media.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise Creative Services producers – helping with content creation, copywriting, graphic design, and advanced production.
  • Create and develop advertising campaigns for News, Sales and Community-based programs.
  • Create, review, approve, and revise copy as assigned.
  • Work with producers and Creative Services Director to create branded marketing campaigns.
  • Develop and produce unique and creative/branded station content for our digital platforms.
  • Work with News managers and EPs to obtain best content/moments of our news products that demonstrate our brand to viewers/users.
  • Serve as a liaison between News, Sales, and Creative Services.
  • Present fully realized campaigns during pitches
  • Help to grow our news audience and engagement on all digital platforms
  • Create contests and giveaways to drive tune in assigned programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Promotions Manager is responsible for exceptional video production, including writing, directing, cinematography, editing and a working knowledge of motion graphic design
  • Work with the unit’s writer/producers to create innovative and branded news, marketing materials for station on-air, station website, station social sites, and all other mobile platforms.
  • Works with design director, graphics hub and Creative Services Director to create necessary news branding graphic elements for all station platforms.
  • Works with Creative Services writer/producers to create innovative marketing messages for sweeps pieces and news events.
  • Create news marketing social posts targeted to align with all on-air news promotional efforts.
  • Works with CSD to manage news promotional ad avails on all digital – web/mobile and social media advertising – including YouTube and Google Ads.
  • Work with Creative Services Director to organize branded social efforts by tracking goals, evaluating posts, and developing best practices
  • Work with Creative Services Director to educate producers in developing successful news promotion writing styles and innovative editing techniques
  • Track metrics and determine the success of content/coverage marketing programs.
  • Work with Creative Services Director to organize/plan strategic community outreach for station.
  • Perform all other marketing duties as assigned by station management.
  • Must work normal business hours. May include working on weekends for station events or during severe weather events

  • Adobe Creative Cloud programs – Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator
  • Avid Media Composer
  • Black Magic, Panasonic, and Sony 4K Camera Systems, Panasonic HD – ENG based-cameras
  • Dana Dollies
  • Advanced Production Lighting systems

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in innovative writing, editing, and producing branded content
  • Experience producing digital content
  • Familiarity with Graphic design and project execution.
  • Non-linear editing skills
  • Advanced video production skills
  • Ability to work under daily deadline pressure
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Strong understanding of social media integration and technology
  • Outstanding organizational skills, with emphasis on strategic thinking

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred.
  • Five to seven years of experience – producing or managing on-air creative and digital content
  • Experience in media production.
  • Promotion/Marketing experience preferred.
