Going to move to highlight former TV creative marketers in order to help those who are contemplating a career change, whether by choice or circumstance. No need to beat that dead horse of ‘the media industry is dead’ since that’s a given at this point. But the varied talents, skills, and abilities you all have are amazing – finding the right way to get them recognized, appreciated, and monetized is the next step. WDT – Here to help. Hope the quick stories of creatives who have found a different path will be helpful if not inspirational.
Former VP/CSD MARC ROBERTZ-SCHWARTZ. He was heading up creative marketing for some TV affiliates and O&Os, like WJKS then WJXX/Jacksonville, WBAL and WMAR/Baltimore, WTVJ and WFOR in Miami. He took a turn to become GM of a niche cable channel called VNN-TV, serving the massive Florida retirement community of The Villages, which in turn lead to his start-up of The Villages in-house marketing and production agency until getting laid off during the crash of ’08.. Those circumstances led to his founding Red Apples Media, a multi award winning marketing, branding and production company. Just the other day, he sold that and is now contemplating his next chapter. I don’t see him playing golf everyday (or any day, from what I hear about his game), or just lounging about. He’s got hot talent (no Florida reference there) and that never goes out of demand. Well Dunne! Marc.
I did not imagine that John Douglas Miller, NBC marketing legend (that phrase will make him demur) could be any more of a class act. But he outdid himself. Again. He shared the truth about how it was to work with a certain orange person who was on The Apprentice, a show John’s team promoted on the Peacock net. Insightful truth is the epitome of trust. Well Dunne! John.
