Hate writing this one…but am thrilled that the effervescent DEILIA RAY WILLIAMS has news. She’ leaving the world of TV marketing – a world she’s had success in for quite some time (20 years) and taking a VP slot for marketing for a company taking their product nationwide. How perfect for her…she knows marketing folks coast to coast. And the title is simple and direct – VP of Marketing. She’ll bring all her talents to the new gig; talents that have been brought out for Hearst, ABC, and her current slot Tegna. Oh, she’s leaving KHOU in Houston. Can’t give her a bigger Well Dunne!
Seems like there are more people leaving TV creative than changing stations and staying in. Meanwhile, SOOOO many producer slots are open, either by dictate or inability to find the talent (or commit to training). Creative producers are an amazing pool of talent from which to find CSD’s.
Deilia is one of two major market creative leaders who submitted their resignation letters. Which makes one wonder just what is the problem with doing TV marketing? And, furthermore, what is being done to address the situation if, indeed, a problem or problems can be identified?
Perhaps one area that might prove a simple and free (hear that…free!) fix would be to choose a title for the job so that it stretches across everyone’s lexicon. No body wonders what a CFO does, or what a CIO spends his time doing. But for years, the titles of creative leaders vary so much from station to station, one is left confused. What DO you do? A question asked by spouses, children, creative types, and other professionals. It’s bad branding, and ironically one that branding talents depend on.
Been thinking of offering a zoom confab about how to take TV creative talents and turn them into great careers outside ‘the biz’. Have people who left give tips on how to do that. You have a broad and exciting set of talents for businesses of all kinds.
